    Wasn't sure if you knew this but they make a magnet that slips over the battery for your snapon 3/8s impact(that small gun). The magnet is strong enough to hold it even upside down. Really handy when using it. I used that gun as a tech for a good 2 years but the batteries started to shit out so I upgraded to a milwaukee 3/8s stubby. Best purchase of my life

    I was told by a Mechanic friend that, unfortunately, the RTV issue is not just limited to the Oil Pan. Apparently the GR86/BRZ and WRX and other potential Subaru models used RTV exclusively. This includes the oil pan, Head Gaskets and possibly even the Split-Block area where typically, you should see a gasket but they used RTV instead. How much of this is true, I am not certain. The unfortunate thing is, I like these cars and for a car manufacturer to cut costs for the sake of saving money, is a shame. I truly hope they address this soon for everyone's sake.
    I hope you don't have any more issues, Danii!

      You can’t use RTV as a head gasket. Too much pressure.

  • @richard9799
    @richard9799 Před rokem +11

    Wait so does the baffle completely eliminate the RTV issue or do you still have to apply the silicon between the baffle and oil pan?
    On top of that. Question. So if you clean the RTV once, would it have to be something you do constantly like every 50k miles or something or would cleaning it once be enough ?

    • @lashlarue7924
      @lashlarue7924 Před 17 dny +1

      No, the issue is the factory used too much, not that they used any at all. Nothing wrong with RTV gasket, it's universally used in many applications. All the RTV fears are just overblown, FUD, internet armchair nonsense. You have a big screen in the pickup tube and an oil filter after that. No RTV is getting back into your engine. 99 BRZ's track testing basically debunks the RTV myth, the issue is that these boxer engines can get oil starved during sharp corners at high RPMs because the pickup can run dry. Solution is to overfill it. Varus Engineering is working on a large-capacity pan. The Greddy baffle in this car does absolutely nothing to stop the fact that oil doesn't run back into the pan fast enough to prevent the pickup from sucking air during hard right turns.

    This is unbelievably sloppy for Toyota/Subaru. In any case, if you use a good-quality RTV that does not break apart, you'll be fine. It seems like the factory RTV was very low quality. American manufacturers such as Motorcraft and Mopar make the best RTV in my experience. Honda Bond is also a great RTV, but not quite as good as the Mopar and Motorcraft stuff I have used. I mostly use Mopar and once it cures, it is elastic and doesn't break unless you pull very hard on it.

    If you treat cleaning the oil pan as maintenance and clean it out every 10k miles, is RTV still a significant issue?

    • @DaniiVision
      @DaniiVision  Před rokem +5

      Car Enthusiast, every 10k seems extreme to me just my opinion though. I will likely check it again when I get to 60k miles maybe even 75k miles. I think doing it once and re-sealing the pan with the proper amount of silicone will reduce the chances of having any in the pickup tube in the future.

    Any advice on how to make sure you don't do the same thing Subaru did? It would be an awful place to have an oil leak- right onto the exhaust manifold. Might be part of the reason they overdid the sealant.

    RTV myth is way overblown. You have a pickup screen and an oil filter after that. Even with some RTV in the pickup you aren't going to starve the engine of oil. The oiling issues of the FA24 are related to the routing of the oil galleys and the inherent issues of flat boxer engines. Problem is that high-G right turns at high RPM can starve the engine of oil pressure because the oil doesn't return to the pan fast enough to prevent the pickup from sucking air. The baffle you installed here does nothing to help with the root cause of the oiling issues. The only way to fix that is to overfill the engine slightly by up to an entire liter, run an Accusump, or maybe the high-capacity oil pan from Verus Engineering (which is still in development).
    You're welcome.
