Ken Russell is one of my favourite directors, a true original, he never shot a predictable scene. He would lull you with sweet colours and music... then shock you out of your Revere with kettle drums and grim reality... He confounded his critics, but never his adoring fans.
I saw this when it was first broadcast and it started my devotion to RVW. For years I could only find a version dubbed into German and, unfortunately, I don't understand the language. Now I can see it in English again. Thank you a million times!
I remember watching this on Swedish television when it first was published and I have searched for it for many years. I love it so many thanks for posting it.
Your welcome! RVW have been one of my favourites since the 70's. Had this on an old VHS tape recorded around 1980 ripped it to DVD several years ago and then to video file.
Fantastic documentary on the life of Ralph Vaughan Williams by Mr. Ken Russell. Very informative, thorough and memorable. The presence of Madame Ursula Vaughan Williams in the documentary also brings additional charm and the history itself narrating a life and important moments of his life . An historical document. An opportunity to go through today on the day of 150th birth anniversary of Maestro Ralph Vaughan Williams. Thank you so much.
Yes, thanks, Ken Russel were of course master of the bizarre, he also made some other similar TV films of other British composers..like Arnold Bax, and not to mention Lisztomania and even more bizarre movies.
Good old, Ken Russell --- Bless his Heart! This is a new one for me and I thought I'd seen nearly everything he'd done. Any chance for posting THE MYSTERY OF DR. MARTINU (1993) ? Thank you very much for posting this.
This is really cool💋
I like this .RVW has been well served by documentaries as it couldn’t be more different in flavour from the Bridcut one.

The Lark is a lament for our British wildlife and countryside.
Thanks for posting this -- I didn't know it existed. Well done.
Thank you for uploading; the english language version has not been seen publicly for decades

I still have this on a VHS, one of my first videos and recorded on a tape that cost £5. Amazingly I never wiped it.
Its definitely a very strange video...but the history and music from a personal viewpoint is great...thanks for posting it.
