Just so happens I have two of these apart. One for jumping out of third, the other for a broken pto counter shaft. Thanks for the tips. These are my first. Never too old to learn.
I had similar issues with sticky shift gates and such. A heavy soaking of Sea Foam penetrating spray several times a day for several days did wonders in freeing things up. I suspect PB Blaster of Kroil would work just as well if that is what you had available.
Could you tell my why the inspection plate on the bottom of this transmission has a cotter pin sticking out of it.. I took my transmission apart to check on the internal hydraulic line running thru it whic I believe is ruptured.. Don't know why this pin is sticking thru when it could leak oil.
The pin is to keep the hole clear. The hole is a weep hole, so oil leaks can come out of the bell housing and not soak clutch and, of course, alert operator of the leak.
I have an 860 with 5 speed tranny. The fluid is churning and frothing when I took the filler cap off. I suspect a broken or loose hydraulic line from the pump since my `hydraulics quit suddenly. I this a major job to repair or replace the line`
I haven't replaced any myself so I can't speak on how difficult it is. I have heard of people doing them though. From what I've read the easiest way to do them is removing the hydraulic manifold at the front of the transmission under the pump, then threading the tubes and using a puller or slide hammer to remove them. Can't remember the size taps needed.
The detent pin is probably worn or the spring is broken. Detents can be found behind the 3 flat head screws on the left side of transmission. Top one is 3rd and reverse.

My 650 jumps out of third as well, not sure how to fix it. Was it easy to fix ?

On my 59 651 3rd gear slips out, anyone have ideas on whats causing it ? Is there a pin or something ?

Are the single front wheel tractors any rarer?
I think so. I don't know production numbers on them but I've only seen a handful of them.
