Why do they taste it with milk?🤔

When I google tea cupping it looks like it's mostly without milk, I wonder if it's an assumption about how their tea will be enjoyed and balancing the flavours for that consumption? I also wonder if tannins in the tea which bind to the protiens in your mouth if they don't combine with the proteins in milk, might impact tasting?

Tea is mostly drunk with milk in the UK. This was Tetley I believe and it is one of the most well known tea brands in UK that sells tea drunk with milk. They probably do separate tea tastings for blends without milk as well.

because when they slurp the oxygen reaches their taste buds and they can identify the characteristics in tea. They swirl it around their mouth and spit it out. And that helps them to feel taste properly.

It’s kind of depressing how they’re more concerned about homogenization of flavor rather than the unique characteristics of each tea.

its not depressing. Tea tasters are very important in the tea field. Most teas we drink are actually blended teas and tea flavour changes every day. The other thing is there is another part in tea tasting. There are so many defective teas manufacture everyday. without these professionals it cannot be found. this is a highly skill based job.

Well this is the case with higher quality orthodox teas but this is an entirely different (budget) market; blending allows you to balance the flavours of much poorer mass produced teas which although distinct might not be that great or unbalanced singularly. The other point is if you like the profile of a particular brand of tea bag the blending will make sure it’s the same the next pack.

Laughing in Pakistani... one of the most popular types of tea we drink is called dhoodh patti (translates to milk tea) which is basically tea made in milk (instead of water)
