From another former Infantryman, amen brother. I just finished reading the book and had to come back to the video, if you haven't already you should read it. As a kid growing up in the 80's I always had dreams of being a Green Beret after watching Rambo of course. Then I read a book written by a Colonel Charles Beckwith and was like wow! I want to do THAT! Reality kicked in VERY quickly and I realized I'm not even close to the type of person it requires to be an elite soldier - and I was ok with that. Now I hear the story of John Chapman and I read the book and I honestly had ZERO knowledge of the combat controllers of the Air Force prior to this. They are without a doubt in my mind the MOST elite of all the SOF groups when you take into account all they go through JUST to become a CCT(2.5 yrs selection)let alone what they can accomplish on the battlefield. As the book says - they are the deadliest soldiers on the battlefield. Learning the history of the Special Operations Wing and its combat controller's as detailed toward the very end of the book was educational and also mind-blowing to think of all the missions they've successfully performed both combat AND humanitarian(!) was amazing. Sorry for rambling, but like I said I just finished reading the book and I'm still a little "amped" - ha ha.

I pray and hope with all my heart that no family ever suffers the tragedy of losing a loved one to warfare, but for those who give their all, I have the utmost respect and honour for.
"No greater love hath man, than to lay down his life for his Brother...."
My Sons are both rugged young bucks, and I hope God spares their Mother and I the heartache of losing them, but should they ever be in this situation, I hope they both give such a fierce account of themselves in the face of the inevitable.

I may be wrong but from what I can tell, steely mentality keeps most operators going as long as they aren’t physically disabled or dead. Of course most “normal” humans (even those pumped with adrenaline) will drop immediately because thats a normal survival instinct. Drop and try not to bleed out or cause internal injuries. You should read about all of the drama that was around this medal of honor between the SEALs, Rangers, Delta, and the Air Force CCT's in the Newsweek article. Just search 'Navy Seal Team 6 Left Behind.' It's a long read, but basically the SEALs were against Chapman receiving this medal of honor and were trying to bureaucratically block it because it exposed the SEAL Team 6 team leader for leaving a man behind and also making the decision to land in an unsafe area that resulted in the deaths of a SEAL, several Rangers, and an Air Force Pararescueman. Eventually it became we'll let your guy get a medal of honor if you let our team leader get a medal of honor. It's an interesting read and highly suggest it.

Especially since people of the past have had different mindsets from a 21st century mindset. Not to mention, all of these other countries have been done stuff much worse than the US and for much longer as well.
Take France for example. Their flag is supposed to represent Liberty, Equality, and Brotherhood. Yet they still massacred their own citizens (September Massacre and Paris Massacre of 1961) and obviously, the countries they colonized (the French invasion of Algeria in 1830).

Unfortunately SEAL command opposed this Medal of Honor for many years. Admitting that Chapman did what we saw him do, did not look good for the SEALs who stayed behind and under cover while Chapman fought and then ultimately retreated and left him alive but wounded in Bunker 1. They also never recovered the body of their buddy, Neil Roberts, which was the point of the reinsertion. In order to counter the story of Chapman's heroics, SEAL Command put in Team Leader Slabinski for the Medal of Honor. You see Slabinski moving forward but always in Chapman's footsteps and behind him in this video. In fact it is not until this video surfaced that Chapman's original AF Cross was upgraded to the Medal of Honor. RIP MSgt Chapman.

Cosmic Wakes Napoleon actually wasn’t that bad. The French government was mistreating everyone and all the monarchys hated Napoleon because they weren’t a monarchy. It’s not his fault that everybody hates him. But once they attacked him they were suprised that he was a genius strategist and lost. Until he was corned.

@@earthorbit7775 Except that the french forcefully drafted the German population into their army. If you resisted you were executed... one of my ancestors was supposed to be drafted by Napoleon's Army in the Rhineland and he fled to a neighbouring village. Most of the men in his village revolted against the French and were summarily executed. It's basically what the Redcoats did to the Yanks during the War of Independence. But we also have a saying in the Rhineland "Better a Frenchman for an enemy than a Russian for a friend" - yes, apparently Tsar Alexander's Russian troops behaved that badly in the Rhineland during the Napoleonic Wars.

General Ripper yes but you have to realize everybody was doing that at that time. Napoleon literally was corned just because he wanted freedom. Now it might not be the freedom we are used to today but it was a precursor. He wasn’t going to attack anyone unless they attacked him. Which they did and almost lost. Justice is based on who wins the battle.

Just a question. Didn't more people died because he radioed his buddies? He radioed, they came on helicopter, helicopter was shot down & more soldiers got killed exiting. Many more soldiers died trying to save 1 guy that ultimately died. He could've saved the helicopter & other soldiers lives by just killing as many as he could and not radio the base.
