I highly recommend that every young teenager to see this1968 movie version. You will relate to it whether you are male or female and understand what true love is. Or at least how we perceive it at that age. I was 17 yrs old when I saw it in a theater in 1968, I vividly remember is the thoughts and hopes of finding someone who could love me that deeply.. The love shared by these 2 young people, it will bring tears to your eyes. Do give it a go but do remember it end tragically and is heartbreaking.
The best!! Olivia hussey did a superb job in this. She is very perfect for this role. Her face is so expressive!! and she's one of the most beautiful person i've ever seen.
I agree with you 100%. It is undoubtedly the best version of Romeo & Juliet I have ever seen. And I saw it way back in 1968 when it first came out and have never, ever forgot how it made me feel 53 years ago.
What they achieved with this film was incredible. They brought Shakespeare to the masses. Not played by way too old Hollywood stars but by people of the age that Shakespeare intended. Beautiful beautiful Olivia and Leonard who were incidentally involved with one another during the filming. I remember this film coming out. It was mind blowing and it still resonates today with people who weren't even born in 1968. I will never forget its impact.
I absolutely LOVE this film. It has a certain quality that today's romance films lack. Today, romance films are cheesy and like a "he said-she said" scenario (this includes soap operas). But this film was based on a true classic and my favorite play. Most beautiful film I've ever seen! :-)
I saw This movie at school and started crying. Legit the whole class was. If Romeo had waited 10 minutes think of what their lives would have been like. The audience becomes so connected to these two characters and even though everyone knows how it will end you still wish otherwise
Ну, что можно сказать, молодец Дзеффирелли! Вытянул из актеров все что можно! И остались они актерами одной роли. Но этот шедевр переиграть уже невозможно. Все и вся на своих местах. Браво!
this was the best classic movie ever..i really hate comparing it to other versions 'coz this one is exceptional and great.. no other version will be as beautiful as this movie was..
This movie is really great because Juliet was only supposed to be 13ish and Olivia Hussey does really look so young, the portrayal is perfect! Leonard Whiting is a brilliant Romeo too! Overall, it's such a great movie!
I couldn't agree more! It was a young Shakespeare who wrote the play and I think that Zeffirelli captured the breathless passion the Bard had in mind with the "star cross'd lovers". The director also brought out the best from these two young actors and was quite daring too. Although not a perfect film, it is still a wonderfully youthful film with some memorable scenes which still move and stir viewers today. I have yet to find a Grade 10 class of mine who did not prefer it to Luhrman's film.
Tiz a shame Hollywood cut the speeches, the Queen Mab speech for one, the frier when he is searching for plants, such fine actors with such fine lines, all on the cutting room floor.
I just finished reading this in my 9th grade honors English class today... The audio can never touch this version and I haven't even seen the full thing.
We were watching this in school and i was the only one who missed the balcony scene and I finally saw a little bit of what people were talking about (they did look like they were eating eachothers faces)
It's so Ramonce. the boy remind me of someone i love. He ready to love with his eys. I already love him. I can't tell U who he is. He belong to my school. I love ramonce movies so much. Love Jenya

This movie made me sick in 68.. I was 10 at the time so why am I watching it now at 53? Because I can't get over how these two Leonard Whitney & Olivia Hussey reminds me of Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattenson in Twilight?
@Alasushka Hi Alice, thanks for uploading this-brilliant! This is one of my favourite films. It looks like we have the same taste in movies too. Would you please tell me the name of this version of the music or send it to me too please? It's great. Thanks! Renee x
Хороший клип, только все время повторяется один и тот же музыкальный пассаж. Там же музыка неземная, волшебная, есть из чего выбрать. А так 4 минуты одних и тех же тактов - как-то бедновато....
@bradford71us every one i know already knew how it ended befor they saw or read romeo nd juliet the only one who didnt was my friend who got angry at me for spoiling the ending!!! lol we'er 13,14 nd 15 btw!!!

In the original story by Shakespeare Romeo was 17 and Juliet was 13 it works cause Olivia kinda looks 13 if you squint your eyes.
A cover of the original soundtrack created by Nino Rota for the movie.
