It's great to see the three of you guys back together. You keep this up Marc, Filk, and L-Roc will be known to the audience as The Coneheads (Harrington, Pavelich, and Schneider on our '80 Olympic Gold Medalists) for the chemistry and consistency and entertainment. Marc, although Filk's philosophy on how to handle Pesce is right out of Bobby Baun's '75-'76 playbook with the WHA'S Toronto Toros with Curt Brackenbury on the ice, we gotta' like the inference. We all know that the Rangers Road to the Cup this season was going to have to travel on Tobacco Road, with as Ranger fans the usual concerns. This series is obviously completely different than 2020 for a number of reasons. This series is setting up as an Epic Classic. This should be a war of attrition, talent and intensity all over the rink with two excellent coaches. Rod's going to have his boys be on their toes as always with a relentless puck pursuit, physical game, a style that can be matched by the Rangers speed and counter attack. A couple of key questions, does Laviolette make any lineup changes with Chytil becoming available and can Igor outplay Freddy? In addition, Carolina's swarming forecheck is a bundle for any team to deal with, all 5 skaters pursuing the puck and hitting everyone in sight. The difference is Peter Laviolette will not be outcoached, know that system well and how to counter that syle of play. I actually look for Wennberg and Roslovic and their speed to counter what Rod throws at us. If we keep our man to man coverage sharp and outwork that group we will win this series. The difference could be home ice being the matchups obviously favor us at home allowing Laviliolette to dictate matchups more often. Blueshirts in an Epic seven games. The Rangers don't scare me as a Carolina fan. There isn't really any indication from the regular season that we should fear the Rangers (match to match). I think the Rangers are really overlooking their first round opponent and extrapolating a bit too far. The islanders were better practice against the Rangers than the Capitals would be for the Rangers. If it comes to Panthers vs Rangers, I am not sure Rangers would win that battle, but I feel much more confident that the canes would this year, after shutting them out in the regular season in both of their most recent matches. Regardless, I think this may be the most well matched series with a high chance the winner could easily make it to the finals.
The Hurricanes don't scare me. All things being equal if I am taking the top 5 players in the series from both teams combined the order is: Panarin, Shesterkin, Guentzel, Fox. Trocheck. Four of those are Rangers. Am I saying that the Hurricanes can't beat the Rangers, no. But their series against the Islanders didn't impress me and it seems like the Rangers played overall better hockey in their series, The Islanders blew a ton of leads and if the Hurricanes want to take a million bad shots against Igor, go for it. Just my two-cents Appreciate the analysis guys!
Canes fan here. Great content here. This will be a hard series. I use to dread Boston when they were clobbering us in the playoffs, but the Rangers are better than them. Looking forward to the test.
