@@Daydreamroses DBS wouldn't be that bad if it continued with the Z-style animation and colors. Too much CGI and bright colors made DBS unlikable to many.

Super Goku is too funny. Toriyama-sensei wanted to go back to the original DB-style humor, ignoring that a large part of DB fanbase loves the gritty atmosphere of DBZ and not the comedic aspects of the OG DB.
He wasn't torn down in Super. He was still courageous, inspiring, and carried everyone on his back. We literally get a replay of Trunks putting this same faith in him.

So future trunks and mai had to travel to similar timeline(probably unknown or where trunks killed androids and then cell killed him and stole time machine aka literally that cell from cell arc)
Edit:i rewatched future arc they travelled to timeline where trunks and mai died but bulma survived.

Some dbz fanatics would consider most of the dbz films as non canonically I believe this variant is canon cause it informs and enlightens you on the storyline of future trunks alternate timeline all the points leading up to his appearance when Frieza and King cold emerge on earth to decimate and take down goku.

Goten doesn’t exist in this timeline as he was never born due to Goku dying from the heart virus before he can even have Goten.
