Tactical tomahawks, as one might imagine, capitalize on that battlefield association - albeit with more up-to-date constructions and uses in mind. Contrasting with their more-traditional steel-and-wood hatchet brethren, tactical tomahawks are often much more aggressive in their styling and are usually built with more modern materials, especially in regards to their handles.
Tactical Tomahawks capitalize on that specialization even further, offering exceptional durability, packability, and multi-functionality.
These weapons are exceptional because they are compact and lightweight but still manage to help with many different tasks. They aren’t just aimed for combat and self-defense uses either. They are also great for recreational activities such as hunting or your local tomahawk throwing championship. Yes, that’s a real thing!

Mostly novelty hawks for preppers. You want a quality hawk that is practical, get one hand forged. $100-$150 you can get an excellent and obscenely sharp hawk if you know where to go. Whether you want a throwing hawk, a hiking/survival hawk, or heavier pole hawk, there are forges out there that meet your needs without resorting to this junk. I have a couple on this list that are dull and near useless. But regardless of the purpose, I'd take any of the several different styles of hand forged hawks off my wall before a single one on this list. The only plausible exception is in an urban setting, the pry bar on the end could be useful.
a Survival axe or hatchet or tomahawk should be practical and not just made for hand to hand combat. Practical is better than tactical.
Great video. I learned a lot. 👍🏿
Great stuff Love all the options you provided. The RMJ stuff (they have a lot more models) is my favorite, as is the Gerber and Hogue
You did a fantastic job showing all of this! Thanks - much appreciated…
Thanks for your positive feedback!
all fantastic. hard choose one.
great work,my friend! tomahawk axes are awesome!
Glad you liked my selection of tactical tomahawk axe.
Amazing
Though the Gerber Downrange tactical Tomahawk is the most well-known and the HX Outdoors is the coolest Tomahawk, I would personally choose the Tops Vi Ax hawk.
I personally like the Downrange tomahawk, even though it's not the best quality.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Much appreciated…
That Vi Axe is just dope
Did you see the edge on the Tops Vi ? They mention edge retention is less than others but the nicks in the one they showed are horrible
Liking that Browning tomahawk.
I take that back. For a pure fighting hawk. The Browning Shock-N-Awe. Looks like it would to the trick nicely.
Bone tactical tomahawks should be here at number 1!
I'm glad the HX outdoor Axe made the list. It's an awesome tool. I use it lots with my Silky.
Silky?
Very good
Beautiful 💪🏾
Thanks! Which Tomahawk Axe is your favorite?
@@survivalgearofficial Hogue 35779 EX-T01 Tomahawk
❤️
Tomahawk machete saw wrench prybar combos please... n fire starter 🔥 👌 😎
Do you tested the Maserin Battle Axe Concept, designed from Alessandro Zanin? It Is my favorite axe.
I've been looking to replace my older Lakota tomahawk.
Your model is intriguing,.
A drop and twist-to-lock in place double edge blade from the handle would make it even more interesting or lethal.
This is a request for custom fabrication as the German cnc

I will like to add the bone tactical tomahawk thank you 🙏
It's a very good tomahawk. Thanks for your suggestion!
I've been throwing tomahawks since the early 80's, long before any of these high priced gadgets came out. You want a good old school "Tactical" tomahawk. The Cold Steel Spike Hawk, and you wont pay an arm and a leg. Sure it has a wooden handle, make it easy to replace in the field if you break it. Another good thrower is the Cold Steel Norse Hawk. Looks like something right out of the age of the Vikings. Wont see one of these over priced fancy things hanging on my belt. But you will see a real Tomahawk.
I'm surprised cold steel wasn't on this list! Just bought a warhawk, haven't used it yet but it is intimidating and will shave arm hair. It's a cold steel, built to last.
i had that sog axe for like 6 years recentley lost while doing yard work lol
Hogue tomahawk is one of the best I ever own.
However 3 available attachments are hopeless, they rattle like a rattlesnake ready to strike.
Vi 2 please😊
Interesting video, but half of those tomahawks featured are no longer available.
Did someone just put a laser on a tomahawk or am I imagining things?!😂🤣😂🤣
Sometimes weapon demo videos crack me up. They find the most undateable nerds to show off products. A laser on a tomahawk is beyond stupid and no one is parkouring over boxes and doing front flips while throwing one lol. In an actual fight that guy would come in so over confident from all the hours of practice in his mom's back yard and get leveled immediately.
Lol in the apocalypse he does a flip throw and twist his ankle now he's screwed when he easily could've just throw it upright on two feet
SHARKS WITH LAZER BEAMS!!!!
Same thing I just was thinking. I understand the Hollywood promotion to sell products and videos 😂 but for real life survival gear that's a no but it's funny as hell
+20 Accuracy
Of course I wanted the $330 EX-t01 for my pack 😅
i own many of these.
use them evwry day.
In the car in the truck in my backpack in my edc, i carry one of these tomahawks with me everywhere I go
Hi, which is your favorite tomahawk? Thanks for watching!
@@survivalgearofficial
The Browning shock and awe but I also like to use the crkt tomahawk I think it has a very good grip handle and I didn't see it in your lineup but crkt products are usually pretty good and reasonable price
So are all of these axes for part k?
Good
Glad :)
Searching for the best multiple-use survival
I have been looking for a tomahawk with a spike for some time. Suggestions ?
H&B Forge
I don't know if it's a genuine suggestion since I haven't checked on the business in years, but the American Kami MicrAxe seemed to be at the top of the stack along with the RMJ stuff. The difference is that RMJ didn't have people complaining about waiting many months to receive their orders. RMJ is the only decent recommendation on this list though.
How you not gunna have the east wing in that line up 🤣
🥃cheers🍻
What was the movie that playing at the beginning?
LOL Theyr dangerous.. Ciao Biagio..
Try Rmj Shrike, Talon or Ragnaok for tactical or Logger head, Jenny wren or Raven for outdoors camping etc. Rmj Tomahawks are best if you are regular and hardcore user of Tomahawk. Also Try Tops Hammer hawk or Cold Steel Rifleman hawk. Rest are gimmicks, tho they can chop a bit but not upto the mark of RMJ tactical which preferred choice of military. Gerber is not trustable after bear Grylls scam. Spyderco Sog etc are too flimsy and zombie tools too impractical. ☝️😎
Not hardly. The best hawks are hand forged. Every one of these is a novelty.
The RMJ Tomahawks are the best in the business, and the Wren is NOT the standard or best example of RMJ Tomahawks.
👌🏻👌🏻
Which one is the most durable?
So many people get these things backwards, the hammer is for fighting. the pick is for digging.
NOT THE WII STRAP xD
Hi
am wondering how these would be able to help someone defend themselves from a large wild animal - like a bear or mountain lion?
If this is your only defense, yikes.
Woods that are known to be populated by bear and big cats when you first need a side arm as a last resort. Then back away and STAY away
A pistol chambered in 10 mm or 44 magnum might work. For lions in times past, there was a special spear with a long iron blade used by the hunter who pulled up in front of a charging lion in hopes of impaling charging animal. It was braced at a low angle in the ground and jerked up to about the lion's lower neck to chest level.
May I suggest a 12 gauge shotgun with slugs. Shotguns are pretty affordable and quite flexible in uses. Some have interchangeable barrels.
How much
No Winklers?
If you're a billionaire maybe...
You need to add the price to your videos I know a lot of them are a lot you may scare some people away but remember if you're going into the woods you want something that's not going to break add the price to your videos
Damn none of them have Bluetooth 😱
SOG needs to chill with that advertisement of their tomahawk
Did that thing have a laser sight 😂
9:50😊
I can't see using these hatchets for bushcrafting
The tomahawk axe was designed for combat rather than bushcraft. But in an emergency I'm sure you can use one of these tomahawks for bushcraft.
7:20😊
Did I just see a guy with a laser on his Tomahawk?
Tanto knives videos
Tanks for your suggestion. I will make a video in the future.
Imagine spending $400+ for a Spyderco Warrior Hawk and thinking it'll protect you, only to encounter some angry prick who tries to rob you. You pull it out and he retreats into the bush and comes out a couple seconds later with a big stick and knocks you out with it.
🤠👏
Almost all are unavailable
Unfortunately due to this situation in which we are almost all manufacturers have troubles with the stock. I hope that it will be fixed soon.
Hogue is almost always out of stock, on all their products, tbh if you want good quality without breaking the bank go with cold steel, i have their budget model of the fixed blade recon tanto, and by budget i mean its sk-5 steel (chinese version of 1095) and itll chop through 4in thick black oak, just dont expect to have much of an edge left, but easy enough to resharpen, and unless youre getting san-mai, or cpm v3, you wont spend a forture on cold steel
صل على رسول الله
Does anyone actually use any of these for anything other than playing around? I have a few of these brands and wouldn't trust my life to them well not for any protracted length of time.
, my SOG is still a great chopper after being downright abused as my regular thrower practice piece.
My RMJ is my regular camp/pack ax. The steel is top quality and it’s a one piece design…there’s not much to fail on it. Holds an edge great. Done a fair bit of bushcraft with it. A coworker had one thru deployment. I’d use it for a long term outdoor piece
There’s plenty of CZcams videos putting zombie tools thru the ringer. Again. One piece construction so I don’t know what’s going to fail.
You'd have to have rocks in your head to pay money for a cast cutting head.
Best selling doesnt mean best..... there are a fk load of stupid people out there that just buy the new because it's new. Most of these dont even look comfortable to use. The shock and awe looks like it would indeed send shock up the handle and make you go "aaawwwe" with every hit. Perfect name.
Did he have a red dot on a tomahawk 😂😂
A tactical tomahawk in 2022?
It seems somewhat ludicrous, surely a compact hatchet and/or a Cold Steel type Shovel would more than exceed the wood processing, chopping and digging requirements and serve equally well as a means of self defence!
There's actual combat footage of trench warfare in The Great War (1914-1918, AKA The First World War) showing troops overrunning a trench and using their shovels as weapons, in the manner of a tomahawk.
These supposedly tactical tomahawks appear to be based on mountaineering ice axes.
Either of the two Cold Steel Shovels, the Special Forces or Spetznaz Trench Shovels would be formidable as self defence tools.
I think I'd prefer to carry my Gransfors Bruks Hatchet and Cold Steel Shovel rather than a questionable 'tactical' tomahawk.
That's actually really funny. I have both the gransfor bruks hatchet and cold steel spetznatz shovel, but have been in the market for a tomahawk. I may just heed your advice and stick with what I have. Then again I probably won't because I'm too addicted to this stuff...
S O G SUCKS ,DON'T TROW IT CAUSE THE HANDLE WILL BRAKE .
These are junk.
