DUTCH BROADCASTER AVROTROS RELEASES FULL STATEMENT ON NETHERLANDS DISQUALIFICATION - EUROVISION 2024

- Statement from AVROTROS:
'An incident occurred after last Thursday's performance. Against clearly made agreements, Joost was filmed when he had just gotten off stage, and had to rush to the greenroom. At that moment, Joost had repeatedly indicated that he did not want to be filmed. This wasn't respected. This led to a threatening movement from Joost towards the camera. Joost did not touch the camera woman. This incident was reported, followed by an investigation by the EBU and police.
Yesterday and today, we consulted extensively with the EBU and proposed several solutions. Nevertheless, the EBU had still decided to disqualify Joost Klein. AVROTROS finds the penalty very heavy and disproportionate. We stand for good manners - let there be no misunderstanding - but in our view, an exclusion order is not proportional to this incident.
We are very disappointed and upset for the millions of fans who were so excited for tonight. What Joost brought to The Netherlands and Europe shouldn't have ended this way.' - Zábava
Shame on the EBU! For even doing this to him! Honestly its unfair and too far!!
What happened: A woman was not allowed to film and still continued filming Joost. Joost asked several times to stop, she didn't. He made a gesture at her and she DECIDED TO GO TO THE POLICE WHAT IS THIS.
Politics
Cause someone said that in Sweden it's punishable if you threatening a woman. But Joost didn't even came closer to her.

@@michelleenderink3664Apparently in Sweden harassing women is only ok if you are an immigrant ey?
He didn't even touch the woman
Singing in eurovision and don't want to be filmed. Who he thought he was, Elton John ?
Meh, If there was an agreement that Joost would not be filmed. Then at that moment the EBU should have stepped in and protected Joost. This is not a situation he should have to deal with. A quote from their own statement regarding the disqualification : "... and are committed to providing a safe and secure working environment for all staff at the Contest. ... ". They failed to provide this to Joost, and he reacted. Apparently not in an appropriate manner. For now, with the news that is available, the EBU is disqualifying a contestant they failed to protect.

Never watching this clown show again. If Joost is disqualified for breaking event policy the woman should be fired for also breaking event policy
Outside the venue, filming and photography is legal.

@@doctorspockable OK.
If this order of events is true, it is absolutely disgusting how EBU "handled" this.
They made a decision not expecting large backlash... lets prove them wrong. They need to know this is ridiculous and shamefull
it seems to me, they needed any excuse to kick him out
If a male photographer accosted a female performer this would be a very different conversation.
its Israel , the main sponsors are israeli.
True. She was totally violating his right to privacy and completely in the wrong. They're sexist pigs assuming a man can't be the victim of a woman. And she's pure evil reporting him to the police. Toxic.
If a male accosted a female camerawomen it would be one thing. He did not accost her. She was not touched. It is ridiculous. Eurovision says it stands for “good manners” but what about the camerawoman who would not listen to Joost about not filming! That is not good manners. It was like she baited him.
@@stephgreen3070 It is legal to film in public spaces, as I understand it they were outside the venue and there are witnesses.
@@eliakimjosephsophia4542 no this woman was working for the organisation. The delegaties, after the rehearsels, told the filmcrew we dont want her to be filming there. They agreed, but she was still there. He told her multiple times not to film, she kept filming. Hope that film leaks so we can all form our own opinion but with the adrenaline of a live performance seeing them just doing stuff that was agreed not to happen would have made me a bit made aswell.
That's all he did? Seriously?
... but what about that 'Karen' that harrassed him with the camera and ignored his requests several times? What she did was okay? 😯
she should have been investigated
Apparently already in rehearsal indicating that he (after a singing europapa at the semifinal, with that emotional part in the end) did not want to be filmed coming off stage. Got feeling that Dutch broadcast organization looked into not broadcasting and stepping out eurovision as a whole, with an official stating f*ck the EBU
If being rude is a valid reason to diskwalify its should be a short show tonight.. dont see them doing this with France or UK entry
Hypocrits
@@tempipassati-ef1hq how would you react when you're being treated like that
Just read it. How Bizarre!!!! There must be something going on we do not know about. Because disqualifying Joost for this is really really fishy
Yes, that is why the Avro Tros is also appealing, they do not stop there.
Moroccan oil. Israel at eurovision are over, even if they win tonight. and until this i was going to vote for her.
@tillypattiasina9206 There's nothing they can do anymore.
DO NOT VOTE ISRAEL!
The organizers are just following their understandable incentive to avoid reputational damage by letting someone win who has committed criminal acts during the festival and is under active police investigation for it. "Better safe than sorry" is how risk-averse organizations operate.
You must live in a very safe country when the police has nothing better to do than this.

Ironically Malmo is overrun by drugs, weapons, and gangs. But they're so progressive they prioritise women's feelings over real crime.
Justice for Jaap... ☹️
The Netherlands is 1 of the original 7 and they kick us out over THIS??????????????
Surely, what really happened is on camera.
Dreadful to kick a singer out of the competition.
What is also so sad about this, is that Europapa was very popular with Dutch children and teens, creating a whole new audience for Eurovision in the Netherlands. This entry was far more broadly supported by the Dutch population then other years. All those kids are so dissapointed right now.
yeah my son is devastated, every kid from 6 to 12 knows the text by heart and was getting ready for this and that all due to some Karen who did not even want to talk this over with Joost or the Dutch organization, she started the conflict and she put in the complaint it is a disgrace, we should have voted the Swedes out of Nato when they applied, heartless ppl.
Exactly this. My kids had me in this singing it for months.

Why do you do half work? Joost had an agreement that he would not be filmed leaving the stage, and that agreement was broken by that Swedish cam-girl. Either you get everything, or say nothing...
She literally says: "against clearly made agreements Joost was filmed when he had just gotten off the stage".
Wel at least they delivered on their moonlanding promise! This really has never been done before
He should perform outside the venue,to the public . That would make the headlines !

As a romanian, i am very very very happy we did not participate this year :), this show is getting more and more trashy by the year.... for real.
Feels very much like an out of control Karen issue...
Did the camera woman made the approach to Joost out of her own will? Or was the camera woman instructed by the director or somebody else to approach?
Why is the approach of the camera to the artist not the center of attention?
Where are the rules published?
And the sad part is that the song from Joost is such a positive uniting "Europe come together" song.
And Hitler said he was going to unite Europe too.

He made a hand movement towards the women’s camera and didn’t touch her at all.
The disqualification is out of proportion!

As far as we ( the Dutch people) are concerned the end of ebu as it is now. Wrong decision, way over the top. The people concerned should be ashamed!
I hope the other country s give there 12 points to the Netherlands as a statement for cutting off Joost for this
Joost didn't nothing. The Dutch broadcaster have just made a statement with the whole story. Joost did make a move with his hands towards the camera, because the camera woman has broken the rules and agreements time after time. There was an agreement that Joost will not be filmed after his performance, because he still will be emotional. But still the woman kept filming him. Even when he repeated several time that he didn't want to and that she must stop filming him. Then he made a movement with his hands. That’s all. The punishment is disproportional.
Earlier eurovoxx stated that Joost was rightfuly disqualified, and now they want us to "enjoy the show". Right ....
yeah very very weak responds of eurovoxx, biggest scandal in Eurovision and we should just have fun? Netherlands is furious and I hope we dump Eurovision
This is shocking! Poor Joost I’m gutted for him 😢
Of you are saying zero tolerance than why is that towards the participants and not towards the people- like camaraman/photographers/etcetera - in my opinion it is the participants who should be shielded. I don’t hear anything about that.
you are clearly leaving out a segment of the statement. It was agreed that back stage no filming would take place. This was an agreement made by the deligation of the Netherlands and the EBU.
Not even backstage. He was just not to be filmed right after his performance, because the final section of his song makes him very emotional. And she did anyway.
after it was already broken before, seems to be second time
Wow I originally didn't wanna See the esc, just netherland made me wanna See, now its senseless like every year 😂 greetz from germany btw, who has almost the lamest radiosong
You must be exhausted with all dramas. You are doing a great job as always. ❤
So my own thoughts on this.
I have to say that making a "threatening movement" towards somebody is not the best action to take at any point no matter how stressed or annoyed you are. However while it can't be justified in my opinion the fact that this filiming was done in contravention of an agreement made with him and continued after repeated requests to stop does offer mitigation for the punishment. I therefore tend to agree with AVROTROS that the disqualification was disproportionate. SVT might argue that their production team need to feel safe in their working environment but clearly this person on their side overstepped repeatedly so where is the balance here.
towards the camera not toward her it makes a difference.
Artists deserve a safe working environment too.
EBU violated that right. A major law suit will be coming from all Dutch organisations involved.
Millions are lost at NPO, AvroTros, and by the companies involved in this production.
@@annemarcovandijk1523 point taken - I am in agreement that the DQ is unfair.
@@dutchman7623 Agreed. That is why I think the DQ is unfair. There is enough mitigation here.
@@jimw859 yeah it’s unfair and there’s probably something behind it. But for sure that eurovision will get some backlash from this. Atleast i hope so
“Threatening movement” could mean anything from walking towards the camera quickly to throwing a punch.
Only a movement towards the camera, it is a bloody shame
He didn't touch her though, that was also clearly stated.
I've had my space invaded plenty of times and I can imagine exactly how he felt as well as what he did.
if quickly throwing a punch to the camera is illegal, i think half of the professional athletes/performers etc should be imprisoned by now

millions of euros out the window because someone doing their job can't respect the other doing likewise.
One thing would settle this Release the footage....
Yes except that the backstage was supposed to be a private area in the first place. If I was in the artist's shoes, this would feel like a further invasion of my privacy.
@henriikkak2091 agreed, but if he was to release the footage he could possibly turn the tables
Kinda fishy and sounds almost like staged to kick him out
Imo it sounds more staged to give him a reason to leave and way to ''protest against Israel''. Because that reason to kick him out is too damn weak. Its too obviously a fake reason.
Imagine making a police report against a fellow artist just because Joost has an opinion and subsequently disqualified. I bet they knew full well what they were doing and next targeted will be the artist from Ireland and Greece. Shame on EBU. I am longer watching Eurovision period.
Who is the camerawoman, and which organisation was she working for? I suspect that the answer lies somewhere thereabouts...

If it was like that, why didnt it happen in all the other years? This seems more like a massive False Flag event to me.
Something like this happening in the songfestival which is well known to be political? Do you really think they would make these decisions if there weren't ulterior motives beyond ''getting rid of him''?
Not so sure it will be cheap longer term (if this was all that happened). There could follow lawsuits. No idea of the rate of success for these. Or other actions.
Would be neat if the winner dedicates his/her price to Joost.
What started off as rumors about him assaulting her, went to intimidation, to an 'intimidating' movement.
