  • What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
    10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
    9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
    8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
    7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

It is an interesting definition of "seaside town" that includes Rye and St David's - both of which are actually two or three miles from the sea, with actual countryside between the towns and sea; and neither of which has a seafront, promenade or beach within its urban area! Also, beautiful though North Berwick is, the good mix of shops that once existed within its town centre now only really caters for the wealthy classes. I guess this is what happens when people make films about places they've never actually been to...!

Who the hell compiled this list? Probably the best location for people taking 'seaside' holidays in the UK at the moment is Cornwall. None of the Cornish resorts get a mention in the top 10, which is ludicrous. Dartmouth doesn't have a beach and is on a river estuary FFS.

Very surprised that Scarborough in North Yorkshire isn't included.
It has almost everything except a swimming pool or theatre. Two very different bays both with wide golden sandy beaches.
The South Bay built with children in mind, lots of amusement arcades candy floss shops and a working harbour with plenty of pleasure boats or sea fishing boats that will take you out several miles to access deep water species.
The North Bay is more sedate aimed at relaxed folk, no amusements at all but several good restaurants overlooking the sea.
In between is a magnificent headland that has a ruined castle overlooking both bays.
The castle was destroyed during WWI by a German cruiser which was trying to destroy the harbour, obviously not a very good gunnery team.
The South Bay is overlooked by the huge Royal Hotel, designed and paid for by the actor Charles Laughton who was born locally.
365 rooms many with sea views, four Turrets which are also rooms.
Personally we would never stay there as it isn't adequately heated out of season when we like to visit.
There is ample parking and quiet cheap along the headland, over 1.000 spaces.
I could go on but it's beginning to become a book.

Most of these look quite small, a bit boring for the lone holidaymaker. For instance I had a day trip to Filey (from Scarborough) four years ago, saw it all in half an hour. My favourites: 1 Torquay, for scenery and excellent choice of beaches 2 Ramsgate, as a base for day tripping 3 Scarborough 4 Brighton, culturally I don't feel at home but lots of good pubs and restaurants.

Just what parameters did you use in your definition of "best SEASIDE" town? Many do not have a sea beach and therefore do not qualify. I can also criticise your omission of some of the many resorts in Cornwall, especially Newquay, which has many specialised beaches to suit all tastes, from the family beach at Porth to the Town Beach adjacent to the active harbour to the surfers' beach at Fistral. It is my opinion that this list has been compiled from tourist brochures without even a cursory visit. A worthless review.

The learning canteen is as strange a title as the inane commentary. I watch it as part of my comedy line up and have great laughs at the fact that it’s conclusions are based on nothing at all. In fact as a resident of one of the included towns I feel strangely insulted by its inclusion. One way of making money from your armchair with the minimum of effort I suppose.
