I think the problem with going down the curly route is that the standards are set too high by the strict ‘curly girl method’ curly’s. Being able to use a curling iron to just do a couple of curls can make all the difference between continuing the curly journey or not. I’ve got to the stage where I am confident enough to do what I want, when I want and not care. Also, to know it’s not always going to be perfect and there is usually some frizz and to embrace that makes all the difference. Each person’s curls is unique to them ❤
I also now love less defined curls. Your hair is beautiful. I’m going to give this a try. Thank you for the tips.
Happy to have you back!!!! Even my hubby just said he was happy to hear a familiar voice.❤❤❤
Exactly¡!!!!!!!!
EXACTLY!😂
Do these ppl get paid for this???
And here is Susie, once again pulling me out of the abyss that is the curly world. The chaos of multiple styling brushes and techniques, treatments and layering of products and unrealistic expectations. Thank you for reminding me that not every curl must be perfectly uniformed and last 7 days. It is so good to have you back.
Ps.....Thank you for also introducing me to growingannanas!!
So good to see you back. I couldn’t believe when I saw you on my Home Screen!
I feel like my feet are back on the ground every time you post! You make the world a better place, Susie!!
This is one of the sweetest things anyone has ever commented. Thank you so much.
Hearing your voice again is just the joyful injection I have needed! Welcome back! 🤜🤛🫶🏻😄
So glad you’re back. You were the 1st curly CZcamsr I started watching. Did either of the boys get your curly hair? Love how simple your routine is.
Haha I'm in perimenopause, I sleep with a towel on my pillow anyways!! Silk bonnet (protect the curls some, I'm not a heathen) but pillow is protected!
My husband LAUGHED the first few nights i used the bonnet, but now he doesn't like it if I dont put it on because he no longer gets hair in his mouth during the night 😂
Believe me when I say YOU ARE LUCKY to be able to do that!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for coming back! I was feeling annoyed with my hair recently, especially since I mostly see other curlies online. You have such great, pleasent presence and it is nice to remember hair doesn't need to be perfect :) I don't do the curly girl method and wash my hair roughly once every 5 days+ so I'm still on the search for the perfect holding gel (my hair is similar to yours in texture).
I can’t THANK YOU enough for this video. I’ve been learning how to manage my curly hair for a year by watching videos. This video taught me everything I should know about washing, sleeping and then styling in easy, simple steps. I used this entire routine last night and my hair looks AMAZING this morning! Thank you!
I was born in 83 too! I had straight hair my whole life and about two years ago it got curly. Didn’t know that was humanly possible. I like your accent. I’m watching to learn how to deal with new curly hair 😯🫣
I found your channel years ago when I started my natural hair journey and you quickly became one of my favs. Curly Susie, you are appreciated and loved on this platform. So excited to see that you’re back. Also loved your “what I eat in a day” videos. Sending you lots of love queen!!
I have missed you ❤ . Hope to see you more !
Ooh, I'm gonna try clipping the roots overnight. I never thought to do that!
What a delight to hear from you again, Susie! I just love your cheery personality and the great advice for my wavy/curly hair delivered in that Nova Scotia accent! Hope all is well with you and yours ❤
Clipping my roots works very well for me at night, I have shorter fine thin hair , in a bob style . The short area in the back of the nape of the neck I just smooth upward when I lay on my back to sleep at night.
I had never thought to do that either. Also have shoulder length hair that doesn't quite make it all in a ponytail so I'm going to try half pineapple
It’s Susie!! You were my very first curly hair CZcamsr. I think you had less than 20,000 subscribers at the time.
Thanks for following me. I remember getting to 5K and I was absolutely shocked and amazed. I really missed making videos.
Oh YEAH you're back!!! 😃 I found you just before you left... I missed you!!! Thank you for coming back. My hair needs you big time: dry & frizzy 😢 And you're here🤸♀️
Welcome back, Susie!
I've been using hair combs for volume, and it is the best method I've found. I push the combs in at the root and spray with hairspray after I've diffused.
A silk bonnet is a game changer for my wavy curly hair to preserve the longevity of my wash day and the bonnet does save my pillows from being wet or damp from the wash day routines in the evenings.
Hi Courtney. I have one and I never got in the habit of wearing it. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks
@@CurlySusie it definitely is very helpful. I try to wear my bonnet every night.
Easy breezy. Mussed you and your dose of realism so much. Xx
So glad to see you on CZcams again! This inspires me to work my curls back up 👩🏼🦱
Welcome, welcome, welcome back!!!!! YAY!!!!! You have no idea how inspirational your videos are. 🩷🩷🩷 Your hair is beautiful.
Im glad you're posting again. I dont think my hair has strong enough curls to be able to go to bed with it damp and put it in a pony tail.ine would end up straight and bent weird and flat. I definitely need it in a fully dry cast to put it up to sleep.
Just try it. It might not turn out AS curly. But you'll have very little frizz, put more gel in in the morning?
Oh! You are back! I'm so pleased, you were my first curly video creator I watched after I decided to let my hair be curly. Now that you are back, I will pay more attention to my own hair. Hope you are well and stay awhile!
As I'm watching this, I'm wearing my Nautica 1983 t-shirt. Also a 1983 gal. Awesome!
You definitetly get the son reference at the beginning lol
I just love your videos! I never thought to apply the mousse after taking my hair down in the morning after a wash night. Sometimes it does turn out a little wonky, so I'll be trying that method. Thanks for sharing.
My favourite words….I’ll see you soon in my next video!💜. Loving that you are back! Since you have been gone I have also simplified my routine….I used to use a curling iron on a few little spots, thanks for reminding me!
i usually do something similar but wear a silk bonnet to bed so my pillow doesnt get too wet and the friction doesn't give me frizz and then in the morning i let it air dry while putting some claw clips in the front of my hair and before leaving the house i put in some hair oil or serum ro finish it off :) also, I'm so happy to see you back Susie! your videos are so helpful and you're so fun to watch :))
Curly suzie is back 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 you were my 1st CZcams subscription!!! OG!! So happy your back!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Id say also take those odd ball curls thatre a bit flat etc - add water to ur finger and do a lil spinny round n round finger curling + u can even pin it down w a bobby pin to get it to hold definition until you take it out
That's what I did in the past, but I have gotten busier/and less concerned with using little bits of heat every other week. But this is a great tip for sure :)
I tried in this routine last night and it turned out fantastic! And I slept fine with the clips and scrunchie in. And I love the volume on top and the lack of having a part.
Thanks for sharing!!
I know that it won't work for everyone but I'm so glad it worked for you. I was lazy last night and didn't use the clips. It still turned out "OK" but not quite as nice in the front... a little too flat. :)
I too am so glad that you are back! I missed you and your honest authentic demeanor. Anyway. I have spent untoward amounts of money and time on curly hair. I saw this video last night , it was so blasted hot here I didn’t feel like doing a hair routine, let alone get the dryer out. I washed, conditioned, leave in and did exactly your suggestion. Guess what! Even my husband commented on how great it looked (he prefers when I blow it out). Thank you!!!
That is awesome. The easier the routine, the better :)
Yay!! I’m so pleased to see that you’re back🙂
Welcome back! This is very similar to my overnight routine. I will try your routine as I've not perfected mine. I hate spending to much time on my hair, so I love any overnight tips! Thank you!!!
I HATE spending time on my hair. That is the main reason I air dry it so much. The nighttime routine is new to me and it's my favourite.
Yaaaay you are back!! You were one of the first curly girl I watched!! Missed you! Sharon from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
So glad to see another video from you. I like your easy style. I washed my hair this afternoon and tried doing the praying hands when putting on the gel.
Okay Susie!! I am going to try the nighttime routine. No lying, not feeling like it will work for me. But I'm willing to give it a shot. Love where your hair is currently. Just beautiful!!
Let me know Lori & be honest :)
@@CurlySusie I love this about you. "If you like it, give it a big thumbs up. If you didn't, give it a big thumbs down." No one does that. I will give that a shot, and be honest. But truthfully, it is so humid in GA that I have no idea what will happen. 🤣
@@CurlySusie UPDATE: So I gave this a try last night. THIS IS CRAZY!! 1. Going to bed with wet (damp) hair. 2. The volume I received from the clips on top helped more than clips on top and drying. 3. Didn't really need much refreshing. I actually added in a bit of Olaplex oil to the ends (colored and porous) and let it finish air drying. Only thing is I don't like curls around my face as much as I have some crazy cowlicks. But I played with it until I was happy. Thank you so much for this video. It's been the absolute best and easiest way to do my curls which means I will do it much more often. 💕
@@lori900 Hi Lori!
Thank you for your reply. I am really interested in trying some Olaplex. I have a lot of highlights (I coloured over them). I recently purchased the Bond-repair line from Shea moisture which I found out only "repairs" hydrogen bonds lol
It is an OK line that I actually like but the "bond-repair" title is basically a marketing ploy in my opinion. I'm going to try lapel next :)
@@CurlySusie I TOTALLY agree with the marketing these companies are using these days. Sad we have to fear the validity. But it's a hit or miss learning. I have liked the Olaplex oil. I don't use the whole line. I do use their No. 6 as a leave in on the ends from time to time.
Your hair is gorgeous. Highlights must look very natural and not be too harsh. 💗
And I have to embrace the curl I have...2B-but try to do the best with what I have. ☺
Susie's baaaaack!!! How'd I miss the other one? Yaay!
Very Happy to see you back. Love it when I can watch a vid and hear that down home accent in my ears. And your hair videos are honest and real. Love you for that.
I usually have to blast my roots with a diffuser if I wash my hair before bed. Then I put it up in the ponytail. I don't like leaving my scalp wet because I'm prone to dandruff and breakouts. I usually leave the ends alone.
Hey Emily! This is a great idea. Especially for people with sensitive scalps and/or very dense hair. I will make sure to relay this suggestion in my next video.
ROOKIE TIP: My hair is shoulder length so when I try to pineapple it, lots of it is not in the hair tie….i have an old nylon ish buff( it’s a spandex tube…for those that don’t know what a buff is). I put the buff I put the buff on ( pulling my head through the tube till it’s around my neck) then I bend over and stuff my hair inside the tube & some of the tube is on my head . I put a hair tie on the end of the tube that is farthest away from my head (& my hair is inside the tube). Then I take a knit headband ( also tube shaped) & put the headband around my head on top if the buff to secure it. Hope that helps someone. Fair warning…. I did get strange looks from my dear patient husband!
OMG you're back! I'm so excited! Recently I've given up on my curls, you being back might actually encourage me to continue caring for my curls like I used to!❤
I think you look great just waking up too - no need to style!
Awesome video! I personally pit a towel on my pillow and cover it with a satin square... voila: dry pillow and protected curls 😊
Of course we missed you!! I binge watched your videos twice when I found them 😆
So glad to see you back!!
Good to see you back Susie. Your routine was my first one I tried over 5 years ago. Though I do a completely different routine now which involves section styling, no scrunching or plopping. I have loose curls but on the tighter side that start close to the root so they don't need much encouragement to curl. I remove water using a floursack towel by pressing on to my hair. I do my routine in the evening and I diffuse till 80% dry. I leave my hair in the cast and wrap a silk scarf and sleep on a silk pillowcase. In morning if I have a cast I give a little shake underneath and get on with my morning which includes exercise. When I shower the stream just boosts my curls and I'm all set for the day.
You were the very first curly girl that I watched in my curl journey (like 5 years ago) oh how I have missed you!! Glad your back and beautiful as always ❤️
Susie, so good to see you again! Your hair is beautiful! I'm just like you, the more simple it is, the better I like it. I plop my hair and use the same product types that you do. I put it in a pineapple at night also..(my husband laughs). I like to air dry mine as well. My hair is naturally gray and curly so some days its wild. However, I do not use any curliing irons/heated devices as it makes my gray go yellow instantly. I just rewet the bad spot and hope for the best. So glad you are back and well, thank you for the new video! :)
You are much better off avoiding the heat! Good for you. I'm sure I'll be joining the grey club soon enough. My Mom had even more curly hair than I did when she was my age, and her grey hair was straight. It is so bizarre, but it is still beautiful.
Yes Susie, you were one of my first hair CZcamsrs also .... Since I think my curls are similar to yours, and I definitely wasn't going to be super strict like some curly girls want .... I like this idea!!! I usually just lay my hair across my pillow because I sleep on my back, but I like that you do the little bit of clipping and even putting it loosely up in the scrunchie doesn't hurt it ❤ ....
Try it anyway and see if it works for you. I sleep on my side and typically switch sides a few times so without the ponytail... my hair is a mess.
Just want to add to the rejoicing that you’re back! So happy to see you again, Susie! 💖
Love your hair! Your hair is beautiful and thick. I got sick and had surgery, and my hair has thinned out so much. I wish my hair was as thick and healthy as yours. Glad youre back, love your videos.
I’m so happy you’re back! You’re so genuine and REAL, and your hair is insanely beautiful! I love this video because I thought I was the only one who goes to sleep with damp hair. After applying products, I plop then diffuse long enough to set my curls (about 50% dry) then plop my hair over my pillow to sleep 😴.
Thank you so much!! Your hair in your little profile pic is gorgeous.
@@CurlySusie you’re very welcome and aww, thank you, that’s very sweet! My profile pic is from 2016 when I first started my wavy hair journey. I still had extensions in. 😂 You’re so kind to take the time to reply back to me! I’ve been watching your channel for a while now so it’s so great to see you back!💕🥰
So glad you’re back!
So glad to see you back! I think the last video I saw you had short hair? If so boy did it grow!!!
Woa welcome back. You’ve been very missed. Your the very 1st video on CG that I ever watched and watched till the end of your filmings. So glad you’re back
You hair looks so good! It’s great to see you back. I feel like my curls haven’t been great for awhile and I get so overwhelmed watching most other videos. So many products that are always changing. New techniques and brushes all the time. Seeing someone just stick to the same stuff is so much more realistic.
Ive never tried sleeping on wet hair (it’s never come out well the random few times I’ve tried) but I didn’t have a way to keep the curls from getting all messed up. I’m definitely going to try this!
How fun to see you doing this. You reminded me that I love clipping up my hair like this (mine is in a stacked (inverted) bob, shorter in the back and shoulder length in the front) my under layers are very curly and the longer parts up front get clipped up, for some reason the pineapple Fs them up into wonky world. Can you believe we've been CGs for 7 years???? You have 2 beautiful boys....and I'm just 7 years older 🙄
7 years!!?? How did that even happen. I watched an old video the other day and Willson was a Baby. I was only 34 and I felt "so old" hahaha
I have a short bob, with fine thin hair this method works well for me also, but I've also discovered that do not use a Bonnet or scarf, it will cause my hair to go flat or wonky
@@avisatkins5438 Mine too! Nothing can be "on" my hair. I sleep like a mummy on my back with a rolled towel under my neck so that the back doesn't go flat.
Hi! I just met you but we literally have the EXACT same hair!! I'm so excited I found you
Thank you! The only thing that has really changed is that when I started making videos, my hair was very chemical and heat-damaged and so I couldn't really refresh it, etc. I used to wet it EVERY day... so if you watch some of my early videos, I talk about how I wet it EVERY day. I hope you have great success with your hair.
Your hair looks beautiful! I have yet to go to bed with my hair wet and woken up with it looking good, no matter what I do. It always look awful (I have less curly/wavy hair and less density than you - your hair is so gorgeous!). I diffuse my hair before bed and slightly scrunch out the crunch. It will look pretty good in the morning if I do that.
I have shoulder-length hair, so I don't think sleeping with it up will work for me. I sure wish it would. It looks fabulous. I'm 62 and trying to embrace my wavy hair but still flat ironing it frequently. My color is pretty close to yours but about 25 percent silver. I haven't been coloring but don't like what it looks like now. When you were coloring, did it make your curls straighten? I know it makes it dryer. I must say, you also have the most beautiful skin! I don't know if mine ever looked that good. You've got it going on, girl.
Glad to see you back Susie! I missed your curly hair routines and your overall sunny outlook on life.
I didn't comment on the last one, but we DID miss you! Welcome back!
We dooooo love you. Even the simplest videos have your fun personality. You’re always enjoyable to watch. 😊
Hey Susie love your channel. I bought the bioterra gel and really liked it and your suggestions have been really great. Just FYI, leaving your hair wet for long periods of time can actually damage the cuticle because the water swells it. Also, it can cause fungal issues on the scalp so be aware :)
My hair is not very dense, and it dries considerably overnight. I just had someone comment that they diffuse their roots a bit before going to bed. I think this is a great idea!
Just woke up from trying this. We'll see how it goes when its dry! And as many have said, you're a long time favorite and im so glad you have posted again!
And?? How was it? Be honest. It may take some tweaking.
@@CurlySusie Surprisingly frizz free, which is shocking since I move a ton in my sleep and normally do a silk bonnet. I do need to mess with root clipping because I inadvertently gave myself a flat part that just looked wonky. I had to rewet that and style it separately the next day. But it worked, was low stress and effort, and saved me a ton of time in the morning! I'll keep it up!
You have beautiful curly hair. My hair is also dry and curly, I condition my scalp with olive oil which prevents it from feeling itchy. I condition my hair with coconut oil, I use a lot of it then I wrap it up in a plastic conditioner cap, and I leave it on for hours then I wash it with a quality shampoo and conditioner, then I let it air dry , finally I curl it. It’s an ordeal but that’s okay my hair needs lots of love.
@curlysusie so glad you’re back. I check in often to see if you’ve posted anything new. You were the first person I found when I started my curly journey back in 2020 and one of only two that I still follow. Thank you for your time and effort to educate and share your favorite products and routine!
Thanks for your comment! I'm very excited to make some new videos and try dome different techniques for my hair.
Hooray you’re back!! You were definitely missed. And glad to see your hair long again so your tips work well with mine (nothing against short hair, mine is just the same length as yours now)
Thanks Nancy. I definitely prefer long hair on me too. The short hair was fun until the novelty wore off.
I also missed the first video, but glad you're back.
My curls are like yours. I sleep in my plop. I am usually successful just dampening my hair in the morning. But I need a cut really bad. I haven't been able to financially for several months. So my hair is not being very cooperative..just takes longer to make presentable.
I need to get cowash and maybe try the mousse.
I do this too, but with my hair a bit damp I put it into the pineapple and then I cover it with a silk bonnet and it works really well 😊
I'm going to try that!!!
Yay welcome back!!! My hair AND expectations have changed over time as well.
So glad you’re back! I love that your content is so relatable, thanks for sharing your process with us 🙂
Thanks Susie, and welcome back! I've only just discovered the pineapple and I like it, but haven't clipped it too. That's a good idea. Thank you.
Thank you for confirming you are back. Have missed your regular vids. Hugs x
Thank you Susie!!
If I slept with my hair like that it would be completely flat on one side. Even a silk cap it gets squished
Jus try it. If it's still damp enough when you wake, you may be surprised what a little product can do.
Me too. I think it’s because my hair is extremely thin
So glad you are back! Your hair is gorgeous ❤ love how real you are too 😊
Thank you Melissa! Very happy to be back.
♥♥YOUR BACK! ♥♥ I have missed you and tonight I am going to try your method. I have found my wavy/curly hair to be work and this method looks great......THANK YOU!!!!
Happy that you're back. I enjoy your realistic hair routine.
Thank you Sylvia!
Great video, Susie. I'm going to give this a try, for sure. Missed you and so glad you're back!
I must've somehow missed the 1st video! But I am really glad you're back! I have never done the overnight method. But my hair is so similar to yours, I am going to try!
Perfect video!!!!! Missed you!!!
Thank you for giving us a real life curly girl method! Your hair are my “hair goals” soo doable for a busy mom! Thank you how do you deal with breakage or hair loss?
Hi Shannon. I don't have any issues with breakage, possibly because I am pretty gentle with my hair. I only experienced hair loss postpartum. It depends on why you are experiencing it. Hormones, a deficiency, genetics, damage. The best way would be to address the root cause (pardon the pun).
SUSIE! Stoked to see you & watch this vid.
Thank you so much :)
I’ve missed you! So glad you’re back. Love your hair videos.
Yay! I missed you!
So beautiful Susie! welcome back 😃Thank you for all the techniques, so helpful , I will give it a try!
So happy to see you back!
Glad you came back Susie
Thanks Debbie! Very happy to be back.
Thanks to you I use all about curls shampoo and really like it ❤
I'm so glad! I have some here, I must try it again.
@@CurlySusie I did not use it for a while but went back to it and love it. Does diffusing hair which I never do but sometimes need to do to get out quickly not have the better results as air drying?
I am happy to see that you made another video. Your hair looks so pretty.
Welcome back!
Thank you :)
Love you Susie ❤️🥰 glad you’re back
I love you too! haha
So glad you're back!!!
I'm sooooo glad you're back!
It looks cute all on top of your head with those clips still in.
Welcome back!!! It’s great to see you again!!
So happy to see you! 😊 Your hair is so long and it came out gorgeous! 🤩
I just thought about you the other day! So glad you are back!!
Big old thumbs up!❤
