Great episode and ending, and speaking of ending to this episode... I must say Ms. Case sure did look very alluring and pretty and that party dress (but then again she always did look very pretty in every episode) :)
@@benyaakov6453 I totally agree! I was 9-10 at the time. I remember initially thinking Batman was cool but when the green hornet came on it changed my mind. No silly gadgets. Just the hornet sting a gas gun and kato! And no over the top costumed criminals. This was a lot more realistic. I still love this show. Seth rogens movie was horrible!
The late Van Williams had said he was grateful the series only lasted one year. He said the work/deadlines that were involved in making an episode were intense and horrendous. He said the only good thing that came out of his experience on the show was becoming very good friends with Bruce Lee
Yeah, not the brightest light on the Christmas tree. Also, if I were him, I'd be madder than hell at the fellow who was leaving as he came in, for letting people get into the tank in the first place. ...and we won't even get into the fact that live ammunition isn't stored in the vehicles when they're mothballed like that.
I was a sugared up four year old, awestruck by the cool Oriental guy. Not long after I described Kato to my father, seeing I was properly motivated to learn, was when Dad started teaching me Army hand to hand.
I've been watching whole series pretty sweet and i liked how one show the guy was watching Batman. They should have made more that's for sure Love it!!
Great episode! Love the story and music and also when Kato kicks the shxxxxt out of the guy pulling a gun! They should have given it another season to catch on!
William Dozier (who produced both The Green Hornet and Batman) would only agree to go on with the series if it could be expanded to 1 hour. ABC refused as the cost to make the show was prohibitive. I wonder if Dozier tried to get another network at that time to take over making it (as this was not unusual at this time as Get Smart/My Three Sons all moved to other networks). Van Williams had said that making the show was physically taxing and there were a lot of deadlines just to get out the 26 episodes 1st season
i really wish these episodes could’ve somehow been longer, or come in two parts… the plots are so interesting and the length/pacing does them a disservice
This is gem that needs to be taken care of, the owners to the rights of the show must work out to revive the show finally on DVD and Blu-ray as they did with Batman years ago… Greenway Productions, bring this to the public!
Lloyd Gough, who plays Mike, had a small role in one of Hollywood's greatest films, SUNSET BLVD. He played the agent of Joe Gillis (William Holden) who confronts him on the golf course. ("Maybe what you need is a new agent").
By all accounts, Van Williams didn't want to be a "star". From what I've read, he didn't like the whole publicity/meet the fans thing, and wanted to treat acting as a business.
Bruce Lee didn’t become a star until he made two films in Hong Kong. He had bit parts in “Ironsides” and “Longstreet “ and “Marlowe”. He wouldn’t have made it on those parts alone.
Hollywood had thousands of good-looking guys, but only one Bruce Lee. He was unusual and a bit of a mystery at a time when people were ready for something exotic.
You got Ralph Meeker, who was a bankable star, to appear as a guest star. Great writing and acting. Shame this didnt last more than one season. Maybe the next season give Britt an arch enemy. A police captain who masquerades as a real mob masked mob boss that Britt pretends to be as the Green Hornet. Neither suspecting who the other is.
I always thought Alec Baldwin would've made a great Britt Reid/Green Hornet. Unfortunately things got caught up and didn't work out and unfortunately we ended up with that mess from Seth rogen!!!
Paul Carr also gets offed in the STAR TREK 2nd Pilot episode WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE, filmed just a few months before this episode of THE GREEN HORNET. Oddly enough, these two particular episodes are likely the best of each of these series.
Thank you for putting this up. I have been looking for GH for awhile now. I never thought to look on CZcams. Until I found your site all l saw before this all l found was the desecration by Seth Rogan. Thanks and maybe add more.
There is one thing that was never explained and I thought the movie might solved is how does Miss Case and the DA know Britt Reed is the Green Hornet. There's has to be a story behind it how the Green Hornet became. The movie didn't answered the question.
I would presume that the show took the fact that she eventually figured out that Britt was the Green Hornet late in the old radio show and used that for the show's status quo.
0:57 Considering this line up of vehicles are for use in movies and TV, I wonder if that ambulance truck near the end was used in M.A.S.H.? I like to pretend it was. :)
I kept hoping they would show a reverse of the Black Beauty rolling out. Meaning that Kato has to steer in reverse through the mint sign and across the patio.
As remarkable as it seems there actually was somebody who not only stopped one tank but a whole column of them at the Battle of the Bulge. By a freak lucky shot he managed to shoot the driver through the tank's visor slit and the bullet bounced around killing everyone in the tank which got stuck in a narrow mountain pass blocking all the tanks behind it. Hey Patton's prayer for the snow storms to clear up worked at Bastogne too. God hates Nazis.
And not only to the historic context, also fact of the first starring role by Bruce Lee, maybe the first Asian to basically started on a TV show in the US, at least that I remember…
@@Tazzman225 should be the last one wasnt bad it was only seth rogan that fucked it up by making the green hornet a buffoon of a sidekick instead of a strong super hero.
God, if they do, they better get it right this time! The irony is, at the time the show came out, it tried to be serious and people wanted humor. Then the movie comes out trying to be humor, but people wanted it serious. Green Hornet was never supposed to be campy, so they better keep Seth Rogen FAR away from it.
I could never understand how the so called ratings were low on this show. I know Batman came out first and this show was a second creation from earlier days but, this show is far more believable in script and realism. Such a shame it was cancelled early.
Personally, I think it was the "race card" against Bruce Lee. Kato was becoming a more prominent character on the show. Bruce Lee's stardom was on the rise AND everybody knew it. (On a sidenote, the show was on during the middle of the Vietnam War. This probably amplified the bias against Asians. For example: There might be some kid who wants to grow up to be like KATO, but the family would be upset...because there is somebody in the family, either fighting in the war..OR died overseas. )
The only reason why this show was canceled because Batman started loosing money. I get it, why watch a circus version of Batman who wears horrible costume, when you can watch a more serious Green hornet.
a fun, intelligent, well- crafted show that had a strong tie- in with batman but it only lasted one season, wtf? can anyone explain this to me, please? also, hope they re- do the movie, the last one kind of sucked. weak script and seth rogen was miscast.
just weak ratings it didnt draw alot of viewers at the time sadly, even batman lost viewers several seasons in. the 2011 movie was great only thing crap was seth rogan. made the green hornet a plucky comedic idiot instead of a strong hero type. sadly seth rogan wrote the script and opted for the movie so therefore he casted himself as the lead, he should of made james franco the lead seeming they are tight buds.
@@Old-Boy_BEbop: The reason the Green Hornet didn't last more than a season is because it came on around the same time as a bunch of even more popular shows, so that's what cut it short---nothing wrong with the show itself, though.

Not the same music. Billy May scored the Hornet. Nelson Riddle scored Batman. May worked some on Batman's third season. Dozier did do the narration for both.

The original Green Hornet T.V. series is my all time summer slumber.
This is great. Thank you for making this series available for viewing. I remember watching this when it first aired. Sad it lasted only one season.
This series really is quite good.
I can't believe it only last one season. Maybe because of Batman over powered the ratings. they even showed Batman in the green hornet show.
After Batman people didn't want a serious crime-fighter. I think if the Green Hornet had come on in 1964 or '65 it might've had more of a chance
No , the Hornet was on Batman.
Oddly enough, I'm Batman's universe the Green Hornet was a real person, But in the Green Hornet's universe Batman was a T.V. show.
