- Today we are doing some Bathroom Demo & Prep work to prepare for our upcoming DIY bathroom renovation!! We are leaving the big items... shower, vanity, floors... but just about everything else is changing! Before we can paint walls, add wood accent walls, change our lights, faucets, mirrors & more - we need to demo the old stuff & prep a few things so our bathroom makeover can be successful & go smoothly! (stay tuned for next week when we will share our kitchen island being cut down + bathroom makeover behind the scenes) always love doing these house projects to make our home just what we love! For kids you should keep the cabinets closed till they are much older and enjoy keeping things organized and good looking.

Keep the medicine cabinet with mirror - hide the clutter of bathroom stuff. Extra storage is good too.
Who remembers when Kyle was a little shy talking to us (the camera) now, he is talking to us while sitting on the toilet! Lol, he has come a long way. Can't wait to see the finished bathroom! 🚽

We took the door out too and made the wall a little taller than 1/2 going just above the electrical outlet and switch. We made both ends of wall flush. Had to do some work on the electric wiring, we really liked how it turned out.

Good morning Amanda & Kyle. What if you did a half wall between the sink and the shower/ toilet area? You wouldn’t have to touch the floor. That would open up the space without a lot of work.❤😊 I like things behind a door.Kyle’s way is best. If the open shelves are for decor only, then Amanda’s way for sure.😊 So exciting the cabinet guy🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂 Bye Guys👋
Suggestion for that wall in the "jello" bathroom... make it a "Pony/half wall", that way you don't have to mess with the floors or the countertop. All you have is a little sheet rock repair from where the wall comes off by the mirror. My vote is to remove the medicine cabinets & have open shelves. Tip for your spackling... put saran wrap directly on the spackling & push up on the sides it keeps it from drying out. I do this with left over paint too. Great video today. ~Samantha

You guys are going to love your redos. We took down our big mirrors and outdated light fixtures in our upstairs bathroomslast year. What a difference. We built our home in 1999 and moved in Jan 2000. It was time. Good luck.

He was so engaged!👍😆 I would say leave the cabinet and place that border you said around the cabinet! I know Kyle knows electrical work however it scares me when he does it because the last time it popped on him…the workers that worked prior to you guys were not as careful…look how he found that “bushing base thing” improperly placed! ⬆️⬇️

In our house we took out the medicine cabinets and inlayed it with wood, the flat surface was paneling that looked like shiplap, and a sleek white pvc boarder around the outside. We love it!

I think in the boys bathrooms a medicine cabinet would be helpful, because when they get older their style jam will be all over the counter. The guest bathroom could be more decorative.

I have to agree with Kyle on the medicine cabinet. Open shelving will make the room look messy. Before you know it, you'll be wanting to cover it back up again.

Regarding the medicine cabinet. I think if it's a kids bathroom I'd keep the mirror and frame it out like you were saying. I just think with personal heigene products and kids it's "nicer" to keep it closed off. If it was a guest bathroom and not used regularly that open shelving is really beautiful.

When I was 14, my Dad decided to renovate our one bathroom (for 5 people 😣). Objective: remove the 'claw foot' bathtub and install a new tub and shower doors.
My Dad thought he could have it done in a weekend, my Mom said "that will take weeks, let's wait". We had family coming in for a visit the following week and she did not want the bathroom out of commission!
So, on that Friday morning, he started the project... and FIVE weeks later, it was completed!!!
Now, most people are paying big money to install a claw foot tub!!!
Loving all your makeovers, and especially that you always know what you are doing.... and manage to do it all without fighting! Imagine that, it is possible! (Trust me, our home had way too much of that).

Hi Amanda love how the bathroom turned out keep the medicine cabinets and put in the boys medicines in each one Tylenol cold meds etc,I like using them to put my toothbrush and toothpaste in it so it’s not on the counter attracting germs from the toilet I love medicine cabinets they hide what you don’t want to see keep it and just pretty it up a bit.

As someone who lives in Phoenix, keep the medicine cabinet and make your life easier! These track built houses never make sense when doing renovations.

My Masterbath medicine cabinet was the same useless size as yours. I took it down and replaced it with a 21"W x 27"L double door glass fronted cabinet that holds everything I need. I found it downtown in Prescott AZ at a thrift shop for $100 and installed it myself.
