    Rainbow Six was a different kind of game when it was first introduced on PC back in 1998. Instead of being just another shooter competing with the likes of Half-Life, Rainbow Six brought its own spin to the shooter genre, tactical planning. Every aspect of gameplay revolved around tactics and planning. You could choose your agents, equipment then plan out attack strategies. And it worked so well that the tactical shooter genre most of us know and love today was formed! It didn't take long for this awesome game to make the leap to consoles and in today's episode of Quick Compare, I take a look at the 2 best console versions of the game around N64 and Dreamcast. Yes I know there is a PS1 version but it sucks ok! yikes... Anyways both versions of the game are based on the PC original with different strengths and weaknesses. Which version is the best? Are there more types of team commands in Dreamcast or do both games have the same amount of commands?

    Dreamcast version is definitely better.

      Yes because its a port of pc version, you can play it with the official mouse and keyboard of dreamcast either as Half life, because when its a good port of the time control schemes AGED REALLY BAD!

  • @wazzup330
    @wazzup330 Před 4 lety +10

    I believe you can use the dreamcast mouse and keyboard for this game and that's why they kept all the controls intact

      That's for Rogue Spear, and it is awesome!

      the mouse and keyboard were not available at the time the dc rb6 was being ported.

    While it was nice that the N64 version featured 2-player co-op, there's one oversight: If you have two soldiers on a team and you die, you cannot take control of the second guy; the dead player has to sit out for the rest of the mission whilst the second guy just stands in one spot.

  • @mazthespaz1
    @mazthespaz1 Před 7 měsíci +1

    on the DC version, if you beat the whole game without a single team member dying, the faces of the combat team are replaced by the faces of the developers

    there wasnt a lot of time to get the DC RB5 controls perfect. they were improved for the DC Rogue Spear

    Hey Archades, great video. I really enjoy your comparison and tutorial videos. Have you thought about reviewing HD texture packs? I recently watched one of your old videos showing off a rogue squadron 2 texture pack. The detail blew my mind but I don't see to many places where that information is consolidated or reviewed. The r/texturepacks community is not super active and I think someone with your experience and knowledge could provide a cool perspective. Something to think about.

      Thanks for the kind words Charles! It is an interesting idea for sure. Time would be the biggest limiting factor. I will definitely keep it in mind!

    Good comparison. Though I definitely want to play the original game on PC one day, I grew up with the N64 version. The two things I didn't like though was when you switch teams, the CPU stopped following the planning path and just froze. It encouraged the fact that the other teams needed to have perfect, precise planning. The other was the fact that the Heartbeat Monitor was useless especially when it was needed for the recon levels like Deep Magic.

    As a PSX player back in the day, I will always be jelly we got an atrocious RS "port" while N64 got something that actually resembles the PC game.

    This was my first game playing online on pc on the msn gaming zone. Man good times. Did clan matches too. I never played the single player. Played the maybe 2 missions and was so boring to me. Online is what i played.

  • @OwtDaftUK

    Dreamcast often had issues with controls because of it only having 1 stick and not enough buttons and four face buttons been used for movement. Hidden and Dangerous also had a huge learning curve on DC for me. I dunno how I loved that game as much as I did. the framerate in it was a disaster too. The DC is often praised for been ahead of it's time. That controls was far from been ahead of it's time. It was behind the times even.

    Why does it look better in N64?

    • @ArchadesGames
      @ArchadesGames  Před rokem +1

      DC version stuck too close to the PC version and N64 was better tailored for the system imo. But yeah, N64 could put up impressive results at the end
