  • Shikantaza. It is a Japanese word that means “sit down, hold still and observe just precisely this.” Why shikantaza? Why not do shamatha and vipashyana or shine and laktong? Why not do creation and completion practices? Why not do visualizations and mantras? Why not do a lot of walking meditation in the forest?

good teaching, it’s fascinating to see the dynamics. Self referential narratives constantly trying to protect and reinforce the “me/free will” illusion and awareness taking down every attempt.

i love this guy. Sokuzan! I agree most of your teaching. I don't need any glue though. I don't know whether meditation can be taught to anybody but you do you. Glue carries this non-doing for 4k years. And i have honest respect for who can sit in before thought.

I do Shikantaza, study The heart Sutra and The Genjokoan, and live my life, that's all. I call it Genjo Zen.

The sect-technique used here is to use subtle derogatory comments regarding "relative" truth (which is the only real, hard-earned knowledge - based on study and empirical and rational critical analysis), and putting forward "absolute truth" (which the gullible audience is craving like children crave sweets). Now, the trick is as follows: You can only get to the absolute truth (which we crave like divine nectar :), via the teacher and his teachings (which he surprisingly calls "dharma" - wich btw is in contradiction to a host of buddhist schools' teachings).
Ergo, the sectleader gathers a cohort of willing payees - with the elegant continuation of them turning into mega-suckers, once they are subjected to more of the confusing guru-sheit/teachings, which makes them believe they are further away from "absolute truth" than when they started. A devilishly simple and effective psychological technique for exploitation of people.
