  • Coleman marine cooler modification. After I made the video I left the cooler on the back of the truck and came back a few days later to check temperature, after 17 days the three remaining jugs still had ice in them and the temp in the cooler was still in the low 40s

    THE RESULTS ARE IN!!!!! An August test of the Homemade Yeti. Test conducted in Florida with the temps in the 90s. ice chest sitting under a tree and after ELEVEN (11) days the ice is gone but the temp inside is still in the high 40s. The jug with the salt in the ice didnt last any longer than the non salt ice.

    I do this all the time with my lifetime cooler. First I prechill it, next I put the two blocks of ice. Then put my frozen foods. Put a foam pad on top then I'll add the others cold foods then put another foam pad on top and I'll last up to 6 days!! But on my coleman cooler I'll add my drinks because everyone know u won't leave beer sitting in ur cooler for days

    • @ronnie32567
      @ronnie32567  Před 4 lety +4

      The only problem doing it that way is that's the expanding foam will bow out the sides on the foam boards. Several people have tried drilling holes in the lid and filling it with expanding foam and every time it warps the lid so bad it won't seal when closed, maybe you will have better luck.

      Hi Bill, thanks for your interest, Yea I wish I had videoed the build. I sprayed the foam in all the voids and cut it back down level with the body of the cooler after the foam dries, then I put in the double sided foil 3/4 in foam board and taped each piece to the cooler body individually. Dont forget the foam/rubber door sealer around the lid. Feel free to ask any more questions you might have.

      1 roll aluminum foil tape

The temps for the 4 days I was traveling through the South was in the 70's, most of the time out west was 60-70 except for three days in the mountains which was in the 50s. But it was in the sun the whole time sitting on the black metal flat bed. It probably wont hold ice for that long in 90 degree weather but I believe it will last as long as a 400 dollar Yeti and have a lot more room for goodies. I just put 1 layer of milk jugs, eight I think, in the cooler and two of those were sweet tea that I sat out to thaw and drink.

      To each his own!!!!! I just know I wound up with a chest twice as big and several hundred dollars cheaper that holds ice for 11 days in 90 degree weather so I'm as happy as I can be. I don't know if you watched the whole video but, mine is not stock I modified it to be able to hold ice that long.

      @@christinaalame9375 I kept my mouth shut for 7 months, but I’m gonna dive in now!!!! So you think cause you’re crossing to the Bahamas with a yeti that you are somehow better and more important than someone that might shop at Walmart?????? Let me enlighten you dear, in my experience people with money got that way by being a lil frugal and no one would think they actually have MONEY, people that want others to THINK they have money, tend to behave lavishly and then crow about it, guess it makes them feel important!!!!! I’ll keep shopping at Walmart thank you!!!!

    Ok people don't be stupid. This is in the winter. It's freezing all night long and probably just above freezing all day. If this cooler was in the truck that ice would have been gone look ago. I didn't watch the video because i saw the dates (pointless)

      R H I saw where someone asked him and he replied he had been driving through some conditions in the 60's and 70's , and it was in the sun on his flatbed for the whole time, so that's not bad, and if this is tried in the summer will probably be pretty decent especially if left in the shade

      rh Nah dude, I spent several days in the Arizona/California/ Nevada desert, Tshirt weather,a long way from freezing. And 7 of those days were in the south, where it was nearer 80, The black flatbed soaks up a lot of heat in the sun all day and the cooler was sitting directly on it. It probably wont hold ice that long in the summer, but if it can hold ice for 17 days in Tshirt weather, well, thats still a hell of a lot longer than a stock cooler. Ya might want to read/listen to something before you stick your foot in your mouth with an uninformed opinion.

      ronnie32567 awesome, bothers when people just have to be negative downers and not watch all the way through. I know in the south it gets hot and super humid so I'm sure this cooler did its job, love all your videos, I've watched a ton of them

      ronnie32567 8 jugs = 66 lbs of ice = 6 lbs / day. That is really pretty good
