In today's video we are touring this 2012 VOLVO VNL780. This SEMI RV hauler has been customized from top to bottom. It's 37' long and it doesn't carry a Smart Car like most others, NOPE, it carries a JEEP! This is definitely a one of a kind heavy duty truck. You can buy a used semi truck, customize it and still pay less than a new tricked out dually. That's crazy! Man that’s fucking awesome! I just gave up trucking as a owner Operator after 16 years. The industry has just been ruined by new drivers destroying the freight rates and then covid made the shortages come and now the parts are higher than ever plus on backorder. I said I wanted to RV for a living in the next few years. I can do something like this and still somewhat be fulfill my passion as a trucker. Im only 41 now and I plan on retiring by 50-55. This is my dream rig right here!

Rob quit telling everybody how much less expensive & easy to drive it is to use a tractor to haul your 5th wheel. You make it hard for those of us who know what a blessing it is to drive one to get a good deal. Kidding seriously I drove OTR, pulling a 5th wheel you can't tell it's behind you with that Volvo plus it responds like you're trailering a utility trailer behind a SUV. I've wanted to get a HDT to pull a trailer for a long time. I truly like to drive everywhere and something like this would be a dream come true...
the work they put into that is amazing.
We have had 5th wheels, but never a hauler like that! The ironic thing too is I drove "specialized" tractor/trailer part time. The specialized is "heavy/wide/long (oversize loads), some dangerous cargo, 2- driver for moving 24/7 w/escort. Driving this rig would be a joy!! Love the Jeep idea!! Not so sure about the low/back pin, but if it works for you, great!! Very nice unit!! Congrats!! 8) --gary

Dude made his truck a temporary honeywagon !! Curious what the total cost was including purchase + repair/upgrades/customizations with the hitch and interior. I'd have a tough time getting into some sites, but I'd gladly pass that up to spend more road time in that rig. 🤣😂👍👍
As a trucker I have always thought about this setup for a big 5th wheel
I used to drove a 2015 Volvo VNL780 in both tandem and single axle. The single axle much better fuel economy than the tandem and turning radius. The tandem axle handled the bumps much better. If your under 5’5” I always thought the Volvo drivers seat still sat too high even with the seat in the lowest position. The Volvo trucks are quiet but with most semis over time the interior will start to rattle a lot more.

Great set up to as a car hauler.
He mentioned he has a street rod and I am assuming the camping trailer is a toy hauler too so he can bring the Jeep and car along.
I like the Jeep and some money was spent on that too.
It's not a toy hauler. He carries the street rod to shows with the rig, but isn't pulling the RV. The jeep is loaded with the RV is attached.

I have my class A CDL and if I were to get a camper/RV it will be a class 8 truck. I like freight shakers myself but this Volvo is extremely nice. I agree with him on getting a semi over a HD pickup.

🇬🇧 That is one fantastic truck. As a retired truck driver just one thing worried me. No grease on that tiny fifth wheel. They seem to have thought of everything. 👍👍👍👍👍
They used teflon rings on the trailer side of the fifth wheel.

I drive a semi coast to coast, I also own a grand design imagine pulled with a 2018 2500 ram, I think this video came up because just today I was telling my wife this exact thing, I want to buy a KW extended put a jeep on it and pull a crazy big fifth wheel rv

Did the owner mention how much he has invested in the truck and trailer? An awesome set up, and I'm guessing around $250,000 for the truck trailer and other goodies.
Exactly! To buy the truck used is cheap, the way he rigged it costs big bucks.
One thing I take into consideration when buying an rv is what I need to tow with and once we are set up can I drive the tow vehicle around

Those engines take 3 oil filters 2 fuel I big air, 42 quarts of oil DPF, filter and diesel exhaust fluid, DPF only new 5k.

He said it was called "hall fabrications". If you google "jessee hall fabrications" you'll find the people I think did it.
Were you required to have a commercial drivers license to operate this truck exclusively for personal purposes?
Looks awesome, but with all those upgrades i bet he could have bought 2 brand new pickups over 100k.. but then he wouldn't have such a nice truck. Minus having to find campgrounds that he will fit in, it's got to be more comfortable to drive than a pickup

So the truck owner compares pricing of this rig to a Ram pickup at about $100k. Cool, but how much more $ was the modifications to pull a Jeep and a 44ft. 5th wheel?
As aretired truck driver does this require a CDL and does DOT get and are required stop or crossing scales?
It's considered private and in the state of Florida it does not require a CDL. Not sure about other states.
I understand in Texas a class A motor registered in the state with airbrakes does.
With truck prices nowadays, I might buy a semi truck instead of a full size pickup truck

Most states do not require anything other than a normal drivers license. Because the HDT is not for commercial use, no driver's log need to be kept nor have to stop at weight stations.
No special license or logs required for Florida. Not sure if that's the case for all state though.

I like the Volvo VNL series. For a big truck, they are surprisingly maneuverable. The extended wheelbase on this one eats into that somewhat however. With the 16L Volvo and 12 speed automatic, it’s an easy drive. And the 9 to 10 mpg on the flat is very realistic. Plus being a commercial truck, it has a very long road life capability. Oil changes and fluid changes are measured in gallons, not quarts.
Your not going to be doing much off road, or “over-landing” with this truck other than groomed gravel parking lots. It’s just not set up for that.
I got a kick out of the Jeep tail lights.

I watched this whole video and noticed a lot of misuse of words that is a standard sleeper for the 780 to you have to have a CDL to pull one of those it is standard 780 customized at the rear
