I was seven when Sandy Hook happened. I live forty five minutes away. I'm now seventeen with a seven year old little brother. Not only do I have to live in fear and sit through the millionth "doors locked, curtains drawn, head down" speech, I'm watching my little brother having that same experience for the first time, being just a year shy of the first victim. I can't stop crying. I feel sick.
I can see why people homeschool i used to think it was excessive and overprotective but i honestly get it. Between the twisted agendas and bullying you have to worry about your kids getting killed literally.

Mine was the same age as the Sandy Hook kids in 2012. I cried just as much yesterday and today as I did in 2012. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this senseless tragedy.

My son was 2 weeks during Sandy Hook, I watched the event unfold on the news. Now years later he's 9, in 4th grade and I have to have these conversations with him that no mother should 😔💔

As a mother, the heartbreak these parents have to feel is immeasurable. To drop our children off at school and not know if we will ever see them again is something parents should NEVER have to worry about. The evil in this world is absolutely insane.

I am a retired teacher of 54 years and believe this school shooting was horrific! How terrible for the parents of the children who were killed!! How terrible for the husbands and children of the teachers who were killed? Just little children! How could anyone simple kill little innocent children? They didn't do anything to this madman! My heart just breaks and I just cry to these little ones.
and to make matters worse, these people who were at the school, including children, will have emotional scars for the rest of their lives.

As a parent that's had to bury a child I can honestly say for the parents condolences prayers nothing seems to help only time will help to slightly numb the pain but if loved ones and the community keeps supporting the families through this hardest moment of their lives then the families can start to heal but please understand there's always going to be broken hearts and extreme anger a parent should never have to bury a child. And to the teachers that passed away we thank you for being there for the children and guiding them up to heaven. And to the families of the teachers we are so sorry for your loss

You have nothing to apologize for - what you said makes perfect sense. I will write condolences for families but in my heart still know that if I lost my baby … it’s a nice sentiment but I would never be whole again. All I can say as a parent is that even the thought of this happening to my child makes me feel physically ill, so the fact it is a reality for someone like yourself and all of the parents that lost their children yesterday… I can not even imagine and I won’t ever pretend like I can understand that kind of pain. It’s truly unfathomable. My heart just aches for everyone.
They will still breath for years, but will remaine dead inside forever. They didn’t even get to see them grow. Too much evil in this world.
If you hurt anyone's feelings, screw'em. I feel your pain as I to have buried my son. No disrespect to anyone that has ever had to do such but while most of us have the support of family and friends, very few of us that go through that pain have the support of the community, let alone the state or country. We feel a need to tell everyone we meet that our child was here, he has not been forgotten, and we feel so let down that we never got to watch as they really got into life. I was fortunate enough to have 23 years with my oldest son before he decided he want to meet God before God called him home. I was lucky enough to watch him learn to play and rock the house with his metal band at 15 playing local bars and clubs for money. I miss that and him such.
Sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the pain losing a child would inflict on a parent. There's really no comparison. Hope time and support from community and family helps.
As a school teacher I can't even imagine something like this happening to my students. All I think of, it's their last moments, their last breath.. 💔
Hugged my little child on his way back home. As a father who has been separated for 3 years after the baby's birth, I can feel the parents' pain. They will be separated forever...
This morning, when I watched my 4th grader head to school on his bike, I couldn't help to break down in tears. We send our kids to school with fear now. Not just bullying inside the school but fear of strangers walking in and doing something horrible like this.
As someone who used to work in education I can tell you some of these kids go to school happy to escape whatever traumas they are going through at home, happy to be learning and surrounded by other kids.
On the other hand, we have kids going to school who get bullied and not much is done because there is not much help in the school system.
Then we have those kids who DO the bullying, the kids who bring drugs/vapes to school. The kids who hear disrespectful things at home, with no role models to set a good example and bring all that back to school.
Parents are not putting in their work to help raise respectful kids. They say it takes a village to raise a kid and it all starts at home.
We don't know what lead this 18 year old to do this as well as all the other kids who have done this in the past. But paying attention to your child, raising them with respect , asking questions, setting boundaries and setting a good example can be that change we need.

I was born in 1957 and I am now 65 years old. I can relate to everything you have mentioned. I have had three brothers and one sister. It was quite common for kids to walk to school as most parents could not afford to take their kids. We had no fear that some perverted stranger would try to pick us up and harm us. Try that now. I was bullied throughout my school years and it was utterly miserable most of the time. I too was also a loner. I stayed away from people because I was afraid of being ridiculed and bullied. In the 70's when I made it to high school there were certain students that had their own vehicles such as pickup truck that they drove to school. Some would have rifle racks mounted in the back and would have one or two rifles residing in that rack. NO ONE would attempt to mess with those rifles and the owners of those rifles did not take them out and start shooting a bunch of kids. By the way, I made it through all of that and grew into a healthy, well adjusted adult that now owns three firearms. One other thing, the AR platform of rifles has been around since about 1959.
I can't even fathom what these parents are going through. My condolences to all the parents who lost their precious babies and to those that may have been injured, as well as, the two beautiful teachers lost. Many prayers going up for God's healing hands to bring comfort in the midst of this tragedy and horrific storm. I'm so sorry for your losses. God bless you all!

The emptiness they left to those parents, and trauma mixed with the hesitating to send their kids to school again is unimaginable. The saddest part is that even the kids that did survive will be forever traumatized and that dark memory will be tattooed into their brain forever. Giving condolences is not enough to give to the victims family, something needs to happen to stop this madness constantly happening over and over, this is becoming to be a common thing in our society, parents shouldn't have to worry about their children when they are at school.This shouldn't never happen, there are changes that are needed to prevent this from happening again.

Absolutely horrible. First thing my husband did as a superintendent was have a security plan. No one got in without metal detectors. I don’t know why there was no security. Blows my mind.

My heart aches for those parents who had their child taken, lost too soon. For what they are going thru. I've experienced it. You become undone....seeing darkness for the future, you focus on the past, just hours behind you, when your child was here. And the two words which keep running thru your mind.... if only...if only...if...if. The void in their hearts will never fill. That ache never goes away.
This is so heartbreaking... I have a client I take care of who is 82 and today while watching the tv, it showed all the faces of those children and I thought I heard her start to cry..I said aww plz dont cry, she said I was looking over at my grandbabies and to think they go to school and it could happen to them...that broke my heart even more than it is... I pray that each and everyone affected that god gives everyone comfort and strength..R.I.H ❣🙏❣🙏❣🙏

This is so sad. Little kids being k1lled, kids who had their whole lives ahead of them , and also the teachers , it's a huge heart broken for me and I can't imagine how bad their parents and family members are having it.
My condolences once I saw on the news what had happened to these sweet innocent babies I held on tight to my 3 little ones and said a prayer to the parents hurt by this I'm truly sorry there are no words to express this in any way. Our children went to a school in a “good” neighborhood so we thought we were safe, thank god nothing happened,however when we got a new Principal who came from a ‘bad’ area and immediately had huge iron gates installed and the parents were furious, us on the other hand were ok with it because everyone had to show ID and ask what they were there for .Every school in America needs this back, we cant keep letting this happen. Also employ armed National guards two per campus , this has to be dealt with

Do you know who pays for the National Guard? I don’t have kids, never did. I pay exorbitant property taxes that are supposed to pay for schools. If you want kids, know that you may face this in America today. WE NEED TO GET RID OF THE ASSAULT GUNS. That will help me too so when I go shopping or to church or to the movies, I won’t get slaughtered.

Had the doors been locked he wouldn't have got in and the officers chasing him would of shot him outside school doors.
Had there been comprehensive background checks he probably wouldn't have been able to buy the weapons he used.

@@HVYMETL The point is that everything that can be done should be done to keep weapons out of the hands of violent and mentally unstable people. If doing that decreases the amount of mass shooting by even 1% it would be worth it. To say that comprehensive background checks wouldn't solve the problem is cowardly. If one life can be saved it would be enough.
