    Bleach the sink after you bathe them. And don't leave them in direct sunlight for too long. These are things I've learned 🙂

      Yes I would hope that everyone gives a hide or puts their baby near shade. After all they know what temperature they want to be at!

    I found a large (bigger than a hardhat) in my ditch yesterday. Game warden said it is a salcuta. He is beautiful. No one has claimed it so far. I hate to think they let him lose on purpose but likely they did.

    Sulcatas should eat mostly grass (90%ish timothy or bemuda hay preferred) , kale can be detrimental, please take a look at the tortoise table website they have a comprehensive list of foods. Fruits are bad, ok as a small treat but to be avoided most of the time.

    Thank you I have a 6month old salcuta, the neighbor's have his sibling, I saw the sibling last night and he/she is at least 2 times as big, I need to figure out why my Tortellini is not growing as quick. Its winter here but day time is warm enough outside its about 30degrees at night so they are both indoors. Ill make sure mine has more outside time. And I bought new lighting. Fingers crossed

      Some sulcatas do just grow at different rates though! Hercules is growing super fast, doubling in size in a year. Henry though hasn't even gotten close to that and they live in the exact same environment!

    Hi! I just got two babies and I’m reading so many different things about basking temperatures. Some say 90-105, and others say that 100+ is fatal! Right now I’m a little low I think with a 84-86 ground temp but the next wattage up puts me 95-104…. Please help

    • @JCAnimals
      @JCAnimals  Před 3 lety +1

      It sounds like he might have metabolic bone disease. It's more common than you'd think in young reptiles. Try upgrading his UVB lights to a higher quality and that usually makes young reptiles perk right up!

    I love in Arizona. Planning to keep my sulcata outside on a table under the patio cover. So it will get plenty of sunlight but also have shade. Do i still need a UV light? I dont think so because they dont have a UV light in the wild… in doors i see why you need it for sure. But outside id think not? In Arizona?

    • @JCAnimals
      @JCAnimals  Před 3 lety +1

      You're right! The sun is a way better uv light than anything you can buy :)

      probably for at night but though they still need warmth and it gets cold in the desert, i’m in vegas and the temperature really drops at night, i keep my sulcata on the balcony for the day and turn on the lamp for cloudy days and at night

    Never give your hatchling fruit they cannot process sugar.

    • @JCAnimals

      Actually it's perfectly safe! There's not much of any nutriential value to them but it makes for a good treat they love and also a great way to hydrate them! :)
