    Fascinating!! I adore them on you. I've always been concerned about the cultural appropriations of dreads, but on further investigation it appears that they exist in so many cultures, northern hemisphere as well.
    I have very curly hair, people love it. I think to dread must be so liberating. X

      Totally understand where you're coming from with the cultural appropriation. I've received some flak for starting my dread journey on a Facebook group that I'm in. At first I didn't know why it was a problem, but then I did some reading and I get it now. I guess the best we can do is try to respect the cultures that find a more intrinsic meaning in them other than just fashion.

    I also love rolling them, and had this urge to roll them in Bhashma, but wasn't sure if it was protocol, to be respectful. I still have that feeling. I will appreciate when you share the products, the dryness concerns me, and I found some rose water spray felt good, and also a bit of essential oils, but just a slight hint of them. My hair is growing faster and thicker, so I have a lot of wild baby hairs to fiddle with. I love that rolling ritual. I used to have to use about 10 hair pins and now use one or two. That is nice.

  • @willyd2404
    @willyd2404 Před 6 lety +1

    does the extra weight also make the hair grow way faster? i feel like peeps with dreads get their hair growing super fast too, probably due to the expanded physical sensations that arise, and obviously spiritual stuff i still have no idea about yet. also what about beards? i often wondered if beards have throat chakra benefits. i know mine gets super itchy, and if i shave after a while the jaw line seems extra chiseled and glowy. so i was thinking that extra itch is the kundalini traveling through creating extra consciousness in that region, same might go for the dreads? so any ways you can expand the natural physical sensations that arise in the day to day experience, can expand that Chakra?

    I have a question. Funny but serious actually. One of my cats, Bobby, loves to chew on my dreads. He usually starts at the tips. I first tried using those colorful metal things you wrap around yr dread, they look like beads once they're on. They're soft like aluminum. So I put a few of them on each end. Didn't help much. He chews on them too! I'm afraid he might swallow some sharp little piece and hurt his insides- so that idea is out.
    Then I tried wrapping Scotch tape around the tips, thinking the texture wouldn't be palatable. Doesn't help.
    Meanwhile some of my dreads are getting too short! Many are almost to my knees. The longest one is past my knees. I will be so sad if he chews that one off. I wrapped a bunch of thread around it--- but it's just a matter of time... There's a couple that are like shoulder length now! This has got to stop! So I'm wondering if you or any of your viewers has any suggestions for me? How can I get Bobby to stop chewing on my hair when I'm asleep?!?

      @@RikthDcruze Ooo that's a good idea, thank you. I hadn't thought of that. :-) 🙀 Hahaha my little kitty friend Bobby will be surprised! I'm thinking I'll mix up a bunch of it in a bowl of water, then dip the ends in, maybe up to two inches. Because I'd think just the powder itself would get pretty messy Lol. Have you tried that yourself?

    • @RikthDcruze
      @RikthDcruze Před 4 lety

      @@Lydianon naah never tried that myself. Just came up with it. There is however a problem. The chili soaked hair may go into your eyes during sleep. A better idea would be something bitter. Like some bitter vegetables (bitter gourds) or some other not harmful/non painful stuff. (NEEM would be a great option, it's anti bacterial and anti fungal and is bloody bloody bitter! but I don't think it will be so available in the Western countries)

    • @BliggySmawz
      @BliggySmawz Před 6 lety +4

      Silvia Vidal no it’s definitely not mandatory! Even if you live there. It’s just a recommendation because they raise your frequency.
      And also again, no! You are not signing up for becoming Hindu if you go to a program. In Hinduism there is no formal conversion. I wasn’t properly a follower of Hinduism before I went to IA but the whole experience just blew me away so much, it was a no brainier that it was the way to go if I wanted to accelerate my spirituality and I just fell in love with it immediately! You go to a program for your spiritual benefit, not to convert to Hinduism. It’s your choice.

      Yes it was awakened by my guru fully, almost 4 years ago. But the reason I named my channel Kundalini Yogini is because I specialize in traditional rope yoga and teach it as my life’s passion. It is called Kundalini Rajju yoga- aka why I am Kundalini Yogini 😊

    I don't particularly like the look of Jattas, but when I started following you and Swaroopapriya I gained a whole new appreciation for their beauty. My question is, are they heavy? Can they pull out your hair and thin it? I have thin hair and the thought of having something weigh it down makes my head hurt ...

    • @KundaliniYogini
      @KundaliniYogini  Před 6 lety +1

      They can be heavy, depends how you Make them (thickness wise). Mine don’t feel particularly heavy. Over years and years they can definitely get heavier but you get used to it like anything :) I’ve heard some cases of thinning hair but very rare

      Weight has nothing to do with how big you make the locs. Weight usually comes from buildup in the hair. Try and apple cider vinager rinse to dissolve buildup

    How do dreadlocks "maintain themselves"? I don't get it, if you travel and don't wash them they still look good? How is that different from regular hair? Sorry none of this makes any sense to me 😕

      Dreadlocks dont move or become tangled... They're just a rightly bound bunch of hair, whats there to spoil? They stay like that for years

      In African culture they are restricted, they don't come out when it is washed, but our natural hair is easy to twist and it you can get it done in a few hours depending on the length of the hair.

    This is bull man if you are gonna say about the spiritual side you do it the natural way, lol how can you be a yogi or aspire to be one when you don't even have the patience to wait for your hairs to naturally dread. Putting on extensions just is horrible from the spiritual point of view, everything would be fine do whatever with your hairs but if you include spirituality it's just wrong.

    Dreadlocks are formed when you don't wash your hair or neglect them. We in Islam don't have them because it is an unclean habit.We must cut our hair from
    Various parts of the body, wash our hair regularly and keep clean our bodies in order to pray 5 times a day, even before prayers we carry out ablutions in order to make our prayers valid.In Islam cleanliness is most important because
    If you clean then you are close to Allah
    SWA, the creator, the master, the most merciful, lord of this world and the hereafter.

    In African culture our own natural hair is twisted all over, we don't have to frizz or weave or manipulate our hair in any way,, locks are a natural hairstyle that only takes some hours not days,, the style was created by Africans for hair with our texture,, that's why it looks good on our hair type,, straight hair doesn't look good braided or locked and washing is easy because the hair doesn't unravel or come out and as it grows we get it retwisted. It has long been a part of our culture dating back thousands of years. Everyone has seen it in our culture being worn by Jamaicans and African Americans for many years. People talked about us and made fun of our locks and now everybody is wearing them and acting as if they didn't see us wearing them in the US before anyone else. I do know for a fact that locks origins are from Africa and has spread out to the rest of the world.

    Why you have to lie about your length "my hair was so long when I dreaded it" girl your extensions aren't even the same color as your hair

    • @KundaliniYogini
      @KundaliniYogini  Před 5 lety +1

      I’ve never tried to hide the fact that I got extensions...I got them over a year after I had my natural dreads (which were already very long) so I could do more traditional Indian hairstyles like my community wears. I only kept the extensions for about 7 months then removed them because I didn’t like them.
