    I bought from a Ritchie Brothers auction a 2015 579, mid roof, 500hp mx13,18 sp. Disc brakes, got it for $2,100, emissions disabled, slowly fixing things, replaced egr cooler so far, cleaned dpf, drove it home last week.

  • @billpollock1763
    @billpollock1763 Před 2 lety +9

    Paccar engines are not that bad to deal with. As far as emissions systems go, the Dpf, Doc, and Scr, there are 3 things that can be done, 1. Is clean the fuel doser if start to see and increase in the amount of regens being done, this is also true for a Cummins.
    2. The next time you change the oil, pull the inlet Nox sensor and remove and clean it's port (12mm Allen if I remember correctly) the ports fill with soot and can cause an issue.
    3. In your DEF pump you can replace the internal filter, just need a 27mm 12 point socket. This can also be done with most of the major truck brands.
    When I work for Paclease these were some of the things that we did as part of our fleet maintenance.

    There is a recall/campaign going on . The oil filter cap has 3small tabs in it that break off and destroy the bearings. We gave had 3 engines destroyed so far and were replaced with factory longblocks under warranty.

    The Paccar engine uses the Cummins after market for emissions, and Turbo is the same one Cummins uses also. It’s a Cummins motor from the turbo back basically.

    • @47rintin1

      That's a true fairy tale. The MX-13 is an engine from DAF Trucks the Netherlands, developed at Brainport Eindhoven. DAF Trucks is one of the three truck brands of PACCAR. The rules for emission in Europe were before the emission rules in the US. So it might be, I'm not sure, that it's the other way around.

    Good video I just bought a 2014 Pete 579 with a MX 13 in it had the check engine light on changed the fuel filters in it and and bingo check engine light went out like you said. That being said the only real problem I am having so far is when the turbo winds down it sounds like it has a backfire problem of all things. I was told at a dealer almost all of them do it something to do with the egr valve I think.
    Its set to 485HP and does a decent job pulling at gross weight in the hills this is the first Paccar engine I ever drove its stronger than I thought it was going to be. Put 10.000 miles on it so far no leaks or using of oil idle is a little rough going to put in some Lucas injector cleaner and see if it helps any also in a couple of months going to get a overhead done Im sure it needs it by now.

    • @g.l.murphy
      @g.l.murphy  Před 4 lety +2

      When you hear that backfire that's the back pressure valve on the back of the turbo, it does that while the truck is self regen. I had to replace mine before but for the most part that's normal. The valve adjustment will definitely help and quite the motor down. I also was impressed with how well the motor did pulling hills, but alot of that has to do with the gearing setup of the truck.

    • @g.l.murphy
      @g.l.murphy  Před 4 lety +2

      Lucas can't hurt, but also keep an ear open on the idle, these like to regen alot at idle especially everytime you start the truck up but you will hear it smooth out when it's done doing that if you idle it long enough

      @@g.l.murphy yes I’ve heard that and that is true but I think that emissions account for literally 99% of any engine related problem that could go wrong.
      I currently drive a tired s60 12.7 and want to upgrade to a mx13 in a 567 pete.. I’m getting 5 mpg on level ground babying it at 65 mph and 75k gross.
      Any idea of the mpg on the mx13?

    What’s an EGR tuneup??

    • @g.l.murphy
      @g.l.murphy  Před 4 lety +3

      Having your EGR valve and cooler pressure cleaned, along with your crossover pipe for a full clean. It removes all the built up that restricts the flow.

      Well the additive I have no experience with. I go to dealership to have it professionally cleaned. But I constantly try new things to prolong the life of these engines and find ways to keep the cost down as much as possible. So any new information I obtain worth sharing I will make a video of

      I never researched that much because I haven't found too many good stories on getting paccars deleted properly. But I know it has been done unsure of the price tho. I would say around 7k

    You got screwed over paying $1000 for a engine light diagnostic. It literally takes an hour to connect it to a laptop and run a system diagnostic test.
