  • I bought a battery eliminator for my car and decided to check if it adds any noise on receive. After testing I decided to take it apart as well.
My conclusion that it's good for RX, but it heats up quickly on TX and I would at least add a bigger radiator if radio is used for TX.
In my case I plan to make USB-C adapter from this eliminator.
Also it looks like these adapters are not the same. Some of them use DC-DC transformers those might be more effective, but might be RF noisy as well. In my case there is no transformer inside.

Haha! So I can't read the label but it looks like it really is just a linear regulator in there! Thank you Yuri, you saved me so much time, I couldn't work out how to open it easily. How did you do it? I want to modify mine, but I don't want to just smash it open... 73 VK2LNA

I pried it using a knife. There is a little bit on video where I modified mine. czcams.com/video/-2GkTZCDF4Q/video.htmlsi=vlGoiRcvnvXV2U11
Mine was glued, so I had to glue it again after modifying, it was a little bit challenging for me.
Yes that’s just a regulator that is RF quiet, but radiator is not sufficient for TX. I didn’t change the radiator on mine because I converted it to 9v usb-c instead that reduced heat.

@@yurishbox Oh! I see your video now. Your modification is much better than what I was thinking! Thank you so much for being so helpful. I see you have also done lots of other interesting mods. Good job!
