  • Crossing the Mawddach estuary at Barmouth in August 2010, with Stanier "Black Five" 44871. Since 2010, with the introduction of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) signalling on the route to Pwllheli, steam has not passed this way again. I wonder if it ever will?

I went over here in 1961 on the Cambrian Coast express, it was of course steam hauled, a grand memory for me nearly 63 years later!

It'd be an awesome way to celebrate the multi-million pound refurbishment of the thing!

Apparently it won’t ever cross again no, they use Diesel train’s now for the Cambrian express route. I’ve always wanted to see a steam train cross the Barmouth bridge, been going since I was young and I’m now 40 and don’t think I’ve ever seen one! Shame really! Thanks for sharing this.

all we can do is hope! It's a shame because it's such a glorious scenic route

@@trevorshattock your right, stunning route, we own a caravan just outside Barmouth in Talybont and the area is just beautiful. I adore the place. We can but hope about the steam trains crossing again. Maybe one day.
