    This was a great run through, and the video format and editing made it even more enjoyable. This video has definitely helped me make the decision to back the game, thank you!

  • @healthygamingnetwork4980

    1:03:57 Hey Jon. Great tutorials and thanks for covering this game! There are no rules in BTAS for throwing carried items. There is in TMNT but your only options here are Hand Off or Drop. But if your viewers which to house rule this (because hucking a fire extinguisher across the room is awesome!) they can find the rule for Throwing and Intercepting items on page 38 of the Change is Constant rulebook.

    Great video!
    I noticed that whenever you went on the defensive, you only turned 1 die at a time to the block side. I believe you can turn all 3 dice to the block side when going on the defensive. So it seems to me there were many attacks where you could have rolled more defense dice for the heroes.
    Edit: Also, attacks out of obscuring terrain are also halved, so some of those late game Enforcer attacks targeting Gordon would have been weaker. Scenario's usually don't end until a hero receives a KO, so if the villain win condition was to just knock down a hero, that's unusual.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks for this note, I didn't notice the "or more" there in the rules. I'll add a note to the Klingon subtitles in the tutorial. Regarding obscuring terrain, this surprises me because the designer of the game watched it and gave me notes before I published this and that wasn't mentioned. I see it now in the rules and would certainly have placed Scarecrows smoke bombs differently if I'd played that correctly. Regarding your last sentence, my understanding is heroes are never knocked out, just knocked down. Can you explain what you mean there?

    • @sevithan9446
      @sevithan9446 Před 4 lety

      @@JonGetsGames I typed out a whole response and it's gone, I must have accidentally not sent it!
      Here it is again:
      I'm not sure about obscuring terrain intent myself, but I have seen the same rules in 3 rule-books now. I think Scarecrow is the only character that can attack out of obscuring terrain without a penalty. The heroes can use them defensively though, but spending their attack actions and only afterwards activating cards/gadgets that generate obscured terrain. Offensively though, since it cuts your attack pool in half essentially, it doesn't have much of an application. I'd say it is a bit weird that Batman/Foot Ninja can throw a smoke pellet in-front of him and the struggle to hit someone right in front of him outside the smoke.
      For the KO's, heroes (and leader villain in competitive mode) get knocked down once their life/hp goes down to 0. The next time they activate, they make an awakening roll. If they fail to meet their awakening threshold, they receive a KO token. In most scenarios, this means that either the hero or villains have achieved their goal (or at least partially if there are multiple win conditions). As you mentioned in the video, if all the heroes are knocked down, they also lose the scenario, and I think that's usually the only way to lose without getting a KO token.
      I'm not 100% on this, but I have not seen a scenario that the villain wins upon only knocking down a hero. The heroes usually lose if they received a given number of KO tokens, usually 1 or 2. So while I have not seen the win conditions for the Scarecrow scenario, I found it unusual that heroes would lose upon being knocked down rather than KO. Assuming the scenario is lost upon a hero receiving a KO, Gordon still would have gotten a chance to do his awakening roll, and only if he had failed it would he gain a KO token.
      On an aside, I checked with the designer, Beat Cops count as minions for awakening rolls, adding 1 dice for friendly heroes' awakening rolls, and subtracting 1 from villain's awakening rolls.

    • @JonGetsGames
      @JonGetsGames  Před 4 lety +2

      @@sevithan9446 Ah I see, this really helps. It's shame this wasn't pointed out before I made the final render. You are correct that in the scenario I used there needed to be a KO to have the villains win and I missed that subtle distinction. I'll add a note into the subtitles about this. I think the heroes were still going to lose, but the game would have gone into at least one more round if I had played it correctly.

    • @sevithan9446
      @sevithan9446 Před 4 lety +2

      @@JonGetsGames It looks like Gordon would have gotten to roll 2(base defense) + 2(from both beat cops) +4 (Batman and Robin, if they don't move) dice for his awakening roll, plus whatever shields he rolls or gets form others (and he could heal had he rolled chi icons), on his next turn. Rolling 8 hits on 8 or more, is tough, but doable.
      So he had a chance to get up, but due to random initiative it may have stopped Batman and Robin from moving in order to help Batgirl because they needed to help Gordon. I know you weren't planning on it, but you played it very well, withdrawing Gordon away from the enemies surrounded with allies to maximize his chance of getting back up.
      In any case, I hope you make more videos for this game system in the future!

    Hey there. Besides the great playthrough I've got question away from the game. I'm not a native speaker and I noticed you're using the plural when speaking about a single hero. Such as "Robin can activate their bat symbol". That's a bit confusing to me. Is it your personal style of speaking, is it some kind of dialect or something like that? Would be interesting to hear about that habbit since I never heared it before.

    • @Icematt12
      @Icematt12 Před 4 lety +1

      That is standard english to me. It is like saying "Robin has a bat symbol and he can activate it". No indication of a plural.
      Are you mixing up their, to do with something they have, and they're (they are)? They sound the same. So does there.

      He was definitely using "their", not "they're". It sounded odd to me too, at first. My assumption is that he was applying that to whomever would be controlling the character (even though he was playing all four in this game), rather than referring to the character themselves.
      Having said that, it would have been less confusing if he'd just used he/she for the characters, though.

      @@roadytn "their" however can apply to one person or a group. "John is playing with their toy" and "Marketing have released the notes from their meeting" are both valid to me. But "his toy" admittedly would be the best one to use.
