Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker. - Jak na to + styl
Your fireplace mantle is UNREAL!! OMG, What a work of art! Thank you for showing us the math of how you had 28 doors. 😂 You guys crack me up with your preciseness. I was blown away with Steve's ability to put the wallpaper and room measurements onto the computer to figure out where to start. How clever. And then Sarah charts and tallies not only her progress on the doors but on the number of cups of tea. 😜 Anything to decrease the monotony of a chore and stay sane, right? I assume you're going to paint your shelving areas. I feel your pain of unloading your shelves. I just cleaned my pantry last week. The shelves were overflowing onto the floor. I couldn't find anything. Now that Ive purged items from 2009, 2012,and 2014, I have plenty of space and feel SO much better. 🤪
That is a lot of work. I like the color on the doors. Thank you for showing us Bonnie and her hubby's chateau. It is beautiful. So is the city.❤
We really enjoyed that visit!
OMG you were brought up in Canadian parliament. The fact that you sold a house in Fergus and bought a chateau in France. Famous
That felt odd.
Love the colour for the doors - this is going to be such an exciting reveal! Glad you got to go visiting - can't wait to join you again!
Couldn't agree more, the door colour is amazingly peaceful to the eyes. When the wallpaper is up, it's going to be amazing. Loved the visit to that tower. WCL
Good job, Sarah. Painting those doors couldn’t have been easy. You’re wonderfully patient and talented. I’m sure your cups of tea helped get you through it!
Do love my tea!
What about putting the wall paper on the doors to make the doors invisible or disappear, especially the cabinet doors and not necessarily the walk through doors? This way you get to use more of the patterns that is lower and it feels like there are less doors in the room. Or Even use the cut outs where the doors and cabinets go and wall paper the inside of the storage backs. Just ideas. Its what I have always wanted to see when I open built in cabinets or drawers, that it was decorated inside too.
Yes! We’ve been thinking along the same lines! We’ll see what we have leftover at the end, and put some ideas out to the community!
Wow, Bonnie got a chateau. That’s awesome. Hope to see that soon.
And you should cut the wallpaper, very carefully, and use the cutouts in the back of the cupboards and cabinets in the room! That way, even when you open them, or if you add glass, it will look nice.
I love this idea of using wallpaper in the cupboards. I find all the contents with in the cupboards distracting.
How about a cupboard with the doors left of, wall paper on the back and lots of glass stored in it. glasses, wine carafes, salad bowls, maybe even the neatly stacked plates. Some open shelving could look very nice.
@@sirmonty4697 Yes, that is, what I was thinking 🙂 It would be most noticable, if the contents was mostly decorative glass. I assume, that the room was originally a butlers pantry. So it would fit nicely 😁
I like all these ideas, plus better shelving options… stay tuned 😜
@@ManorandMakerYes, because the paper is really beautiful. I was thinking it would be a shame to even use in that butlers pantry, because of all the doors, but - you could even put it on some of the doors, in framed panels! And then, as I wrote earlier, if you put in glassdoors in one of them, put the wallpaper in the back! In fact, I would make that room into a China/butlers pantry again. Put glass in some of the cupboard doors, so they function as displays for your porcelain! And it can still also be used as a breakfast room 😊 To be honest, I would talk to wallpaper company about the diningroom too... Just to get ideas from someone professional...😊 I'll explain why. Right now, the diningroom seems disconnected from the rest of the house, because of the wall colour, etc. The room has great potential, and even though I understand your idea of making the Chateau a sort of gallery, I still think, you should take the age and history into consideration. Your grand hall is amazing. The Butlers pantry will soon be beautiful - but now, the diningroom stands out. It is just, that the Chateau is built with a specific style, and that should at least be taken into consideration, when redecorating, for the best results. Because the exterior also gives people certain expectations, of what the interior should look like. It is litterally a dream castle!! It calls for some grandeur, some guilding and antiques! The artwork is gorgeous, it can easily hold its own, even if you decorate the Chateau as a Chateau, and not an art gallery 😊
Great job on the doors. Cracked up at the math and measuring all the rooms 😂😂😂😂😂Nice tour and love Bonnie and Dave’s place 😍😍😍😍😍😘
Thanks so much!
Have you seen dreaming of a chateau, Alla has hand painted murals on her walls. Thought you might be interested as you are so talented, they are a young couple working so hard on their house on lake Como. Kate ❤
It’s too late but it would have been cool to convert the wide pantry area into secret doors that you could have wallpapered over. But that paper is really gorgeous along with the paint colors. ❤
That would be cool!
Tours was just gorgeous!! The buildings & architecture are stunning!! And, Bonnie & David's chateau is spectacular with those massive rooms & columns!! I love how the ivy was beautifully trimmed, instead of trying eliminate it, which I realize in many instances does become necessary!! 🇺🇸
Love the paint! The new wallpaper is gorgeous. I wouldn't worry about above the doorways. Think of the flowers reaching to the sky!
Thank you! 😊
So now....we need to call you the "Door Diva" ;-)
It's looking fantastic already. You've come a very long way from the purple! Excited to see next week's episode already xx
Thank you! Cheers!
More great progress, and fun + useful toy! ♥️🎉
A fun chateau tour (Tour tour tour), and now you know where to go when you’re homesick and don’t feel like cooking. 😁
We are so grateful to have made great friends while are here. Including online friends like you Peni!
Doorapalooza was me! Tickled that you enjoyed it so much. Brought me a very much needed smile today to hear you using it, because I had nine pins and a plate put yesterday into the broken ankle that cut our Paris/Lalande trip short a week ago.
Oh DANG! I'm so sorry about your ankle Nancy - as someone who's also broken an ankle on a trip - that is pretty high on my "do not recommend" list. Thank you for the doorapalooza tho - it really tickles me!
To Nancy,
That ankle injury sounds very painful. I hope it heals well now there are the pins holding it together.
@@mika72.-Bois thanks for the good wishes! I'm feeling so much better now that the ankle is stabilized with hardware! It's hard to believe that having that much hardware in my ankle could be an improvement but here we are lol
@@ManorandMaker I definitely do NOT recommend either that other people join the sisterhood of the traveling broken ankle! Let's keep that club exclusive! LOL
The cafe looks so much better already. Great job! Looking forward to seeing the completed transformation.
Us too!
You are doing amazing transformations!!! Exciting!!! 🥰🎶❤️🇨🇦 from a fellow Canadian!!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thank you so much 🤗
What hard work you’ve both done! The door color is beautiful- that’s a hard color to get right. Congratulations on all the progress. So fun for us to watch❤
Beautiful color of paint! Well done- onward and upward now!🖌️
Thank you! 😊
I might have been tempted to wall paper/mural the doors as well. But, I think it will look perfectly charming the way that you've decided to do it. We always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I think I will show a sample of that and put it out to the community for input! Once everything else is done…
That green is so soft and pleasing to the eye❤
I can’t speak for every one of your subscribers, and viewers, but I don’t believe anyone expects perfection. The Chateau is what, 100 years old? More? I can’t remember. Suffice it to say, we will enjoy whatever you end up with. The wallpaper is stunning. PS- I have missed your drone shots. They are amazing. Watching you from Mexico City.
I love the colours for the cafe. And I must say, I am impressed with your painting skills. It looked like you were wearing good clothes and no paint spills. OMG Sarah, come and paint my house!!!! Have a great week.
Now other Cháteaux May save their doors that need painting for when you visit. 😊
Oh heck no Tony! Still so many more to go in this one!😂
Congratulations to Bonnie on her move and amazing chateau with tower! Hope we see more of her. Loved the purple, but it was too much for such a small doorapalooza room. The new green is lovely. Sarah, how do you paint in such a nice outfit and not get paint on it? Did you make the vest? The fabric is great.
The smock is a piece I got in Indonesia. It’s great for a bit of warmth, but with free movement . I did get a bit of paint on it, but I’m hoping I can wash it out with a bit of effort.
Just saw your article in the local online paper and screamed, I know who they are!!! Congrats from Guelph💕
Lol. Thanks for following!🤗
That town was beautiful. I also love the paint and wallpaper you've chosen. Can't wait to see the room finished.
Me too!!
Although all the château videos I watch seem to be green, green, green and more green. I love your green & color scheme!! Yes it does feel calmer, and will look BEAUTIFUL!! Excellent choices! Well done! ❤
Hahaha 😂 🤣dish soap cooked pea green is France national color, Philip’s Anna uses dirty bottom of the moat dreaded greens anything else is bright apple or chartreuse.
Hi Sarah & Steve, Every day a bit more progress, can't wait until we see the wallpaper going up. It's also good that it not all work and no play, the brief tour of Tours was a delightful break in your work schedult. Mark & Scott
Wow! It’s very handy you are a computer geek, Steve, to work out the wallpaper! The new tool is very handy. And I love the colour of the green and the wallpaper. Yay, Bonnie and David.
Love the colour you have chosen for the doors! Beautiful…. 👍🥰
Great job on the doors! That was a ton of work!
Such a pretty green - looking forward to seeing the wallpaper go up.
💕If your doors were different you could of wallpapered them as well💕Although you could always paint the insides of the cupboards in the same green💕
We are talking about some ideas along that line… if we have enough leftovers. I think I’ll put the ideas out to the community!
Love the colour's for the café and you are doing a great job on the door's Sarah, A lovely trip to Bonnie's chateau which is wonderful.take care and see you both soon 💕🌼🤗
The cafe area will be just beautiful! Lovrely ideas
Your paintwork is adoorable Sara
Love the colour, will go perfectly with the wallpaper
Love it,saw the Birds custard in the cabinet!Yummmmm!
Lol! I think it’s a leftover from the retreat desserts… I’ll have to make it up now!
As for me their is never too much geekiness. I can leave my comments in French now! Vous faire pratiquer votre lecture. J’adore tout ce que vous faites. Tout est fait avec un bon goût. J’ai hâte de voir le beau papier peint.
Oui! Merci - je dois toujours pratiqué! Je suis en train d’amélioré mon français!
I think it’s a great place for the organ. I would consider putting the console on a moveable platform if possible ( I don’t know if it’s mechanically or electrically linked).
Most of the time it would sit facing the pipes and centered but you would have some limited ability to put it to one side a bit. But even fixed it would be beautiful!
My hats off to you! Painting in your fancy clothes!
Not at all! Very old shirt & pants, and just a smock for a bit of warmth...
@@ManorandMakerWell you look great in it!
I’m usually a mess and the clothes are indicative of my skills!!
I would so be that person, measuring everything I could see :)
The green is a very calming color.
It is going to be beautiful!
We certainly hope so!
Sarah and the seven doors! A great step in the cafe tale. Enjoy your tea! ☕️ 🫖
Ooooh, that would be a GREAT title of a story or a painting "Sarah and the Seven Doors"! Can't wait!
Waterloo Ontario says hello 😊
Haha Kenora Dinner Jacket 🤣🤣🤣 I grew up not far from Kenora Ontario. Such a Canadian thing all the way over in France 😅
I’m glad you got the reference.
What I love about house you visited was that it wasn’t over decorated. The white/ cream walls, consistent wood beams. No mish mash. Beautiful furniture.. a class act.
It’s very new to them, and I know they have plans. Looking forward to seeing how they progress!
Loved it, was so lovely having you visit!
The paint color is so calming 🕊️🙏🏻, beautiful! Looking forward to that stunning wallpaper.
Luv this soft green on the doors, so pretty and soothing. Much prettier than that ugly purple.
Sarah, my arms hurt for you, that's a lot of doors. Good job and I love Bonnie's new home.
Can’t wait to see the finished room. 😊
Me too!
I watched your segment on the National on the CBC website a few days ago. I was happy to see you get the publicity you deserve!
The paint is beautiful!
Love that colour green, very tranquil.
Thanks for the tour of Tour. Some of my French family past hailed from there. Glorious walk through a fabulous town or small city. Loved it . looking forward to seeing the Cafe with wallpaper. Lots of work for you two!
Love the colour so far! 🇨🇦🍁
I'm so anxious to see the finished room. I can't wait! Thanks for the tour of Tours. It's on my bucket list.
PS love the green and the wallpaper.
Well done on the doors. The colour looks good.
The green colour is good
Great job on the doors!
Kudos, the door-a-pa-looza is finally done! Well done!
Lovely wallpaper! What an upgrade for that room. btw, I thought that geeky tool has 2 lasers so you don't have to walk all the way to a wall or put it on the ground - at least for quick estimates. For accuracy maybe not. Cheers indeed! 🇨🇦
I saw your interview on the news “The National” well done you two 👏👏👏🇨🇦
Exciting!!👌👍💜
wow really a lovely old chateau! tours is also a lovely place how nice to have more chateaus to see and new places to go! cant wait to see the new paper up also in your lovely chateau - nice to see the canadian flag again also and now i am hungry for poutine!! (canadian living in colorado)
Love love the wall paper! Well done. Heather
Looking lovely guys!

This looks like an amazing adventure. Can't wait to see the finished project from a fellow Fergusite
Us too!
Love the pale green doors!
Great mob❤❤
Lovely these doors with there new color, so soft and it will make the room bigger😊
Love the paint color of the doors. 🥰
Thank you! Cheers!
👀 ng stunning!
Loved the tour of la tour near Tours! My paternal DeLoach ancestors were from Tours. Great job on the doors Sarah! 😊
Very cool! I love personal history connections- I need to get to La Rochelle at some point!
What a soothing, relaxing green.😊
It really is!
I enjoyed your video as always, The cafe is going to be beautiful, I know all about rooms with many doors and the painting of said doors {yikes} It is a lot of work but as with all improvements worth the work involved, Great job!
Have you thought of turning a couple of the cupboard doors into glass doors?
Placing all your serving type dishes and china in them?
Watching from Vancouver Island 🇨🇦❄
Dear Sara and Steve
I must have missed a few episodes. Are you making a cafe in the chateau? ❤
Nice vlog. I felt like I was there. Looking forward to the wallpaper being up and I would have liked to have visited that chateau in person with you! I have a new art class starting on chateaux, and I may include that tower as an inspiration!
I would love to see that!
You're not geeks - You're "familiarizing yourself with the product" 😉
I would have played with it for HOURS!
Last year we spent three days in Tours on our way to La Lande, We loved it there! So much to see and do!
Doorpalooza! I'm in the middle of a whole-house paintpalooza but it's nothing like this! I have only 7 doors. Awesome job, Sarah! PS - I'm spiffing up my house for rental while I travel in France, starting in March🗼
Oh wow! See you then?
Hope so! I'd love to volunteer and help you sew, cook, clean, gardening, whatever... I have all the domestic skills! My WorkAway application is in process.
I love the paint colour, can you remind us what make and shade it is please..
Beautiful color 😊 if you don't mind me asking what is the name of the color and also wallpaper. Thank you happy holidays
Looking good! Crack on!!
Have you thought of using lining paper to help with the uneven walls?
Yes, we're debating that and a wood veneer type option. Do you have any experience with the lining paper? I'm concerned the seams would be more obvious, but then it might match the look on the top.... Please share your advice!
@@ManorandMaker you can hardly see the seams, just make sure that your seams of your wallpaper are not on the seams of the lining paper. The lining paper is also wider. Try hanging the lining paper horizontally that way it prevents joins coinciding. The thickness varies from 800 to 2000 with 2000 being the thickest (used on pitted walls). It also will block staining and prevent mildew. The width of lining paper variies from 500 to 1000 mm. 1000 can be cumbersome. I think you have this.
That was fun and most enjoyable touring TOURS plus watching you measure your walls. Can’t wait to see your finished project!! Is Bonnie from the US?
Canadian via the US. Like us, feet in many countries.
I’m from Canada, then US…and now France🎉
7 doors and snow white.
What is the music you added. Really like that.
Could you give me the minute mark? I'd be happy to share...
The cafe should be called 7 Doors.
Did you say a muriel form of wallpaper?
Yes, it's a three-panel repeat mural.
