2024 Mercedes Maybach EQS 680 SUV: Ultimate Luxury EV!

- Wilhelm #Maybach could be considered the father of the Luxury Automobile, being the designer of the first "Mercedes" which appeared in 1901 for a customer whose daughter Mercedes later named the model and the legendary car brand!
Today as an off shoot Mercedes trim much like AMG, the modern #MercedesMaybach is a huge hit, with cars like the S680 Maybach and more surprisingly, the GLS Maybach which has been a massive success too!
So unsurprising that given the direction of the world, Maybach now finally gets its first fully #electriccar. It’s based on the EQS SUV, but essentially tears put the 7 seats, in fact all of the interior, and replaces it with S Class Maybach seats and rear cocoon. And then a tonne of other Maybach DNA in every area.
In terms of propulsion, we have the same two large PSMs front and rear - but now encased in to reduce noise. They make 658hp and 950nm and are paired to a 108kw battery and 4Matic all wheel drive. Helping it do 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, not that the passenger will care! They will care more about the 600KM quoted range, which is damned impressive for a large and heavy EV SUV like this.
Air suspension is of course standard, with continuous damping - the Maybach driving mode makes the rear even more comfortable thanks to an oscillating node in the rear helping reduce any rear movement. Oh and the usual rear wheel steering these cars have.
In terms of acoustics - Further rubber mountings for these too, and acoustic foam in key areas like the wheel arches to reduce noise, and acoustic glass too - all standard my Maybach stuff! The Maybach driving mode returns in the EV too, more comfortable than “comfort”, and EV Maybach get’s a unique sound profile called Aerial grace.
But what is MUCH more Maybach, is that interior. As I said, pulling the best parts from the S680 and GLS Maybach, we have the same cocoon rear commanding seats with waterfall style wood trim. Extensive use of high quality materials covers what is a truly epic luxury interior - tonnes of details to show you inside!

LOL. So true. Mercedes has not been reflecting modern European established design lines for quite a while now. More like Dubai disco style inspired and with intended pretentious audience accordingly. I would not consider a Mercedes now based on that alone.
I was in an S650 Maybach 2 weeks ago - not the limo, the normal one. The switches and air vents are about the same quality plastic and feel as a base Toyota with RGB lighting everywhere that made it look like a tic tok gamers bedroom.
I've owned many S Class from 1994 to 2012 and the modern ones are just piles of gadgets in place of quality. And the brand new ones seem aimed at Twitch streamers and Crypto Bro's

Ive driven a W126 for a while, Ive owned 2 W140 Sallons and 1 coupe, 1 W220 Saloon 1 coupe, 1 W221 potato face as I call it, sallon.

The usecase is a rich person being driven around to airports or meetings. A regular SUV has way to little room in the back. Most premium Shuttle services use Vitos or similar Van like cars, because they are the most spacious and enable the people to travel and work with multiple people in the back.

Actually no, the seats are completely different, on the GLE and with the GLS Maybach you have 100% the same interior, expect the materials

At the end of the day it's still a Mercedes, a brand you see hundreds of every day... that's why it will never be in the same class as a Rolls Royce or a Bentley.

I’m all for flashy, but I can’t stand the Maybach logos repeated on the facia and throughout. It looks like low end hypebeast fashion like the Louis v. Logo pattern or the Gucci “g” all over a purse.

The pretentious newly rich, especially those within the Middle East and China will love it. They will buy anything that is expensive, regardless of how hideous it looks.
I used to think the same about the EQS/EQE, but I saw one in person and it was actually really nice. I imagine the same goes for this.
@@EdwardViaTomatothat’s cap I’ve seen a few eqs around and it looks like a standard car with luxury accents. But if you park an s class next to it it will be a massive difference in presence

Technology seems to be taking priority over style on most of the latest vehicles, especially the full electric models..... Haven't seen a good looking new car for ages.... But the technology and figures are rapidly improving on a daily basis.

Personally I would get rid of all the 3 star MB logos including the hood ornament and replace it all by the Maybach logo and hood ornament and maybe also tone down the trademark cheezy chrome finishes to maybe offer a carbon fiber trim finish which would make more sense on what is afterall an SUV.

The more I think about it the more I believe the whole current generation of MB designs are unremarkable leaning towards ugly. Comparing current gen S class, Coupe, up to the supercars its obvious the last gen is superior in design and overall impact. I am now thinking of canceling my order for an S63 sedan and get a low milage S63 cabrio and order a basic spec V8 Flying Spur.

I wonder what ownership of something like this will look like in 10-15 years, when the battery is at the end of its serviceable life, and (presumably) most of the "connected" services are discontinued or defunct. Will you even be able to get a replacement battery then, and would it be worth it considering quickly these things depreciate?

10-15 years? You are being optimistic. Service life is biggest lie about batteries these days. They tell you at 80% battery health it is time to service. Well they might as well set the 80% battery health to 0% then, no? Indeed it is around 80% battery health, when these batteries become unreliable to the tune that they keep cutting out while still showing a charge.
@@mrtopcat2 The EQS has a 10-year/155,000-mile warranty on the battery. I'm assuming the Maybach will get driven less than a regular EQS... thus my reasoning for "10-15" years.
There will definitely be a market for replacement batteries for older cars

I can`t understand why the front seat moves when you wish to stretch your legs instead of moving the seat to the back and occupying the cargo area first.

600 km range??? i dont think so, if you drive this with 4 passengers, heating or air con on and all other bits going on in the back ground i think the range would be close to 200 miles at a strecth if you put your foot down and doing 100 mph or so on the motorway

What's with all the Maybach logos? Way too many for my taste!
A bit too many fussy details like the maybach logos on the front then you have them on the puddle lights (which I quite like) , EQS badges at side. Looks quite nice to sit in the rear of this as long as that ambient lighting can be turned off or dimmed at least..
