- Join my guest Kevin Bustard and I through the highs and lows of a weekend hunt on Texada Island on the coast of British Columbia. This hunt is filled with a ton of epic highs and some heart breaking lows.

Sitka blacktails are on Haida Gwaii and coastal Alaska, Texada has Columbian
Blacktail which came over from the Sunshine coast
That make a tone of sense. The are noticeably smaller on average then the deer other Columbias that I have seen.
definitely Columbia blacktail on Texada I've been successful there and shot maybe 20 Sitka on the Queen Charlette Islands

Great job guys, it’s a beautiful island and one of my favorite hunts, but it’s a grind…especially late season. You really managed to capture how wet it is, haha.
It was a great learning experience. We had suspected that it was a type of truffle but its great to get feedback. It was super wet and challenging to film.
I really enjoyed your Texada videos too!

@@cheechakooutdoors Love the idea! I have a crazy year of hunts planned but if your interested we could get a weekend hunt in October if you have some availability. I wont have my October hunts fully planned until I see the results of my Moose LEH. We can work out dates after that.
@@highbchunting For sure! I won’t know what my fall looks like quite yet until I see my LEH draws either, (we usually put in for moose, elk and goat draws), but I’m sure we can probably figure something out!

@@truetineoutdoors no kidding! The weather has not been nice for the bears with this heavy rain. As soon as the weather breaks they should start showing up big time.
This past weekend we ended up on a north hill chanterelle honey hole. We saw all sorts of moss dug up, yet it’s obvious mushroom picker hadn’t gone through cuz the bounty was ours. Never seen moss dug like this.
The deer are gigging up truffle like fungus. Nice work on the Chanterelles! I love them fried in butter with a dash of salt.
Good film, so reminiscent of my time hunting there. Sorry you lost the deer. I’ve lost one myself. You fed the coyote or wolves and raven. Nothing is wasted in the woods. Now you’ve a dog you’ll be the one eating your deer not the eagles.

There are no Sitka blacktails on Texada Island, Columbian Blacktails.

deer are digging up mushrooms ,most likely pine mushrooms .
