Oh Saints! Here we are my fellow grishaverse fan. As a reader of those books I had high expectation on this adaptation, and oh well, I was not disappointed at all. Darklina broke my heart again. I'm so weak for them.
Anyway, I'm soooo happy. Just had the best day of my life editing these two. Enjoy ;)

The villain who manipulates the good, innocent, naive girl and who ends up falling in love with her. I mean if he was not in love, he would not be on the verge of crying for her, right? Such a Shame his lust for power pushed him to do so many bad things... :/
I think that he don't have "bad intentions". He has just done things in the wrong way because he hadn't been taught how to do them in the good way.

God, this song fits PERFECTLY, I love them so much 😩. I genuinely don't understand how these characters aren't together. They are friggin soulmates, darkness and light, yin and yang. Hell, even Ben Barnes said it himself. Just because Mal is the good guy does not mean he and Alina belong together.
The Darkling and Alina they defy each other, they challenge each other, it's so interesting. Yes, the Darkling is manipulative and he is violent, but that's what he was taught in order to survive. His manipulation is second nature to him, it helped him when ppl betrayed him, and they probably did since he was the most hated Grisha. I feel like he can't trust people too easily which means that it's difficult to get his guard down sometimes.
To be honest, I think Zlatan is more of a bastard, letting Fjerdans in, so they can raid the docks and kidnap and kill Grisha, no wonder the Darkling wants to kill them. Throughout the decades he's only had himself for company, to make decisions, and he's become colder and crueller because well, of time. With Alina, he doesn't feel alone anymore, he feels like he could spend forever with her.
That moment where she touches his hand and the light just exploded, his face! His face said it all. It's like he's saying I've finally found someone, and Alina could really be his balance. I feel like when she said to him that he didn't give her a choice, neither did she. When Baghra took her, she should've went back and gotten the truth out of the Darkling, she knows him better than bloody Baghra, he would've told her I think, and she could decide from there. She doesn't get how much the Grisha had to suffer and maybe he could've told her that so she could understand. I feel like he really wants to protect Alina as she is the only one like him, and, if they got the chance, the other side would try to kill her, Arken was working for Zlatan and attempted to kill Alina, no wonder they gave her so much protection.
If the Fold was destroyed, there's no stopping the Fjerdans, Ravkans and Shu Hans from attacking Grisha. People just think that Grisha are there to harm, but they're to help too. The Darkling did what he did for Grisha. At the end, I feel like he felt betrayed by Alina because he felt that she understood him, which is why I think he was telling the truth about some things he said to her. They both seriously need to have a PROPER talk with each other and Alina needs to let him talk.
I swear, there is literally so much potential with these two they're really interesting and complex characters.
I hope Netflix realises because God knows I'm going to fucking lose it if they don't.
Listen, in the books, he did many manyyy unforgivable things. Killing children and adults, manipulation, abusing women, gaslighting, and many to mention. He wouldn't get away that easily. I think what the readers meant about they like the Darkling is the actor himself. (I mean who wouldn't love Ben Barnes, he really did outdone himself playing that role perfectly) But Darklina has a different chemistry, his character needn't a redemption arc (I realized this now; imo.) because he already has a chance a hundred years ago.
You see, in the show, he's not in love with his power because it is entirely more than that. Aleksander was so afraid to gamble or admit that she was making him feel like a human again after watching his own kind suffer over and over for.
At the episode 7, the part where Alina said; "We could've had this. All of it. You could have made me your equal." you see, you don't need words to confirm what his expression and eyes says.
But a part of us was wishing for him to lower down his pride and admit he regretted it this time. Because he did regret it. He knew. We knew. Alina willingly wanted to help him do whatever he wanted to.
All he had to do was admit it, but he had to lie. He had to prolong the process. He had to try and manipulate her. In the end, he's the one who lost himself.
He lost Alina. Enter Alina's quote; "You may have needed me, but I never needed you!" I do understand why some are trying to be reasonable and chose Mal to be Alina's endgame.
And I respect their otp's. Did I justified my opinion? I think I did lol hahaha. The story may have been a fiction, but we're still romanticizing bad factors of the society and some may think it is a reflection to our real perspectives in life.
On a last note, if someone do genuinely love The Darkling's character (and not the actor), that's still up to you. But personally, I think you are expecting him to change his views. You want him to be happy because he's been wanting nothing but power and want him to fall in love again. You have a hope that he still has goodness inside him. And I commend you for that because you see goodness in everyone.
I agree with you but remember Alexander made a fold to protect Grishas.
Mal and Alina are just like brother and sister and they have boring relationship together but look at Darklina... I mean ... They have the best chemistry ever. The chemistry between them is Lovely and incredible .

This has to be end game! Darkness and light, they complete each other. They have more chemistry than Mal and Alina and somehow far more sense. Light conqueres dark always, but you can not have one without the other ( day without night, and the other day around).

I guess we love the dark and bad with the light and good troupe so much that we get blinded to see how actually would these two together be, unless the Darkling changes himself. But I dont think there is hope for that. He is so manipulative, deceiving and has a huge vengeance to take care of. I don't think it can happen even if I desperately wish for Darklina and maybe for the ship that won't drown. Even Alina said they could've been everything, could've had it all. 💔

Honestly, I 100% ship Darklina in the movie. However, it's different when you talk about Darklina in the book, the darkling really is power hungry and manipulative. Even he confessed that he kissed alina because he knew she will be charmed.
