  • Mayor Turner and Police Chief Finner said Timber Ridge, where residents complained of rats, mold and trash, will face consequences if they don't act soon.

    They should also go after apartment owners' predatory parking practices with regard to predatory towing and charging practices.

      $25 a month just to park within the property. No vip, or if VIP nowhere near where u live... Scam all day everyday, over here..

    I don't understand, a lot of these places are paid by section-8. The housing authorities are supposed to be inspecting these properties.. Our taxes pay for all this, when are we going to hold the government accountable for their non actions???

      Exactly. The city of Houston getting involved as if they weren't previously involved. Considering they probably pay a portion of those renters payments. Plus, an apartment complex is like any other type of business. They too have to have inspection of their properties, correct ? So, I'm not sure y ppl are applauding this poor attempt to remove their hands from this negligence.

      I’m not sure wit these are section 8 apartments but like any other federal or state government work, I’d imagine they privately contract it out.

    This is clearly a good thing generally but the residents need to be responsible too, for maintaining a better environment also. But I appreciate the city stepping up some.

    Anyone who is renting and is dealing with deplorable conditions/Slumlords (Property Owners), should be placing their rental monies in Escrow, until these Slumlords bring the property into compliance.
    There should be hefty fines assessed for EACH day they are NON-COMPLIANT.
    Start posting the Slumlords names and Property names & locations on Social Media to warn others.
    No one should have to live in these type of conditions.

    They need to pay for Motels, for all the residents, until the apartments are completely cleaned (mold, rats and roaches), with new appliances, carpets etc, and they should get free rent for 2 year's with no rent increases or retribution, the is shameful and painful, I can't imagine what they have gone through.

    Obviously, these slumlords weren't listening to the commissioner so the mayor has to get involved. I'm glad they're finally doing something.

      Funny thing about this. The mayor BEEEEEEN INVOLVED. This definitely not the first complex of ppl to come forth. Now that it's gotten that attention, he's wanting to do something. More than likely this apt is income based, so THEY definitely BEEEEEEN KNOWING .

      Read between the lines….these apartments are where most of the criminals are clustered at. If they can shut down all the cheap, section 8 housing 1/3rd of all the criminals in Houston will have no choice but to leave as well.

    They should be arrested for abuse (child and elder abuse) for unsafe and deployable living conditions (heat, mold, rats, roaches) causes respiratory problems and infections and the mental and emotional stress of living in such conditions,...... And if All else Fails, Make the Owners and the Landlord live there, in the Worst Unit's without any repairs or the removal of the rats, roaches, or mold...... Let them share the experience and live like the apartment residents daily.... Until they fix them completely from top too bottom, with new everything.

    Think about the people who shop for apartments online from different places those pictures are from 1988 when the property was is good shape... imagine you pay for an apartment and get there and it's deployable... 😢

    I don't even live in Houston glad the Mayor and the others stoping these slumlords I know a few weeks ago I saw the Mayor at a Brand New apartment complex downtown Atlanta so don't just go to the newly built properties GO TO ALL OF THEM ESPECIALLY THE OLDER APARTMENT COMPLEXES
