- One of the most wonderfully chili-heavy recipes on the planet - ''Chili Chicken' is an absolute winner both at home (in Sichuan, China) AND right here in Thailand (we find it today in the district of Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai) - Yow!!!!
A classic instance of incredible food found in a place where you definitely won't expect it - this restaurant delivers a beautifully heart-felt example of WHY food is just the ultimate comfort to any person who ever finds themself missing home (in this case, my wife Li :) ). Thank you to the wonderful family owned-and-run restaurant "Kiao Siang Hai," right on the riverside in Chiang Saen, Thailand.

STORY OF THE VIDEO:
Hunting for either Burmese or Laos food near the Golden Triangle here today (as we are in sight of both of these countries, yet unable to cross the border), we were happily blown away by this surprise find of authentic Chinese food. Getting a bit excited, we felt we had no choice but to go crazy for home-cooked flavors, a triple order of dumplings + fried rice + chili chicken (this chef's amazing use of chili pepper - wow!), I won't soon forget this meal at 'Kiao Siang Hai Restaurant.'

Not sure why when I have a baby boy pregnancy my spice level goes through the roof!!!!! You know me and my children have been passing quarantine enjoying all of your videos!!! Joel I think I saw your shorts catch fire when you dropped that chili on your clothes. When you mixed the chili oil with your chopsticks look at the color that drew up into the stick. That is kind of like cinnamon toothpicks we had as kids. Chili square where the golden Triangle meets the chilies of China.

Myself and other patrons of a Mexican restaurant had to go outside for some fresh air……the cook was grilling chili’s and he was a bit over zealous. All of a sudden our eyes were burning and everyone was coughing ……lol.

Joel thank you for sharing the joy of Chinese food. I came to know 'fried Chinese delights' (and soups, noodles, dumplings etc.) as a young child, through a Chinese uncle of mine, and my father who would take us out for lunches and dinners at authentic Chinese restaurants (meaning no English on the menus and a Chinese immigrant clientele) in Toronto's original Chinatown. It was my first introduction to really spicy food.

Kristina 😃 yes I can definitely do that, I have actually been already extending them as far as I can, even running over the next sentence that would actually be translating. I try to get some kind of a rhythm going, because yes if the situation is dynamic at all then it’s really hard to both watch and read if I only keep the words on the screen for as long as the speaker is speaking :-) but yes, thank you for the comment because I’m sure you are not the only one, I will keep stretching them for as long as I can :-) thanks again for the loving words and support of this and EVERY video ♥️ Have a beautiful Tuesday today

Ah, the old hide-and-seek chicken. There's a sichuan place near me that makes it and, for reasons I'm not entirely sure of, we've ended up calling it "crime scene chicken"
Just loving this name, this nickname, should DEFINITELY be the English name of this dish - thats so great! Li is laughing when I told her about the hide and seek (the game), she said "YES hahah looking for chicken in the chili!!!"
