I thought about it long ago. The way I like to put it is that there are problems which can be solved and there are problems towards which you can only develop a stance but in the latter the stance is the solution.
This genuinely hit me deeper than anything I’ve heard this year. I’m 13 years into a growing number of medical problems/physical disabilities. No doctor has ever told me there’s anything that will just fix all my problems and reverse my autoimmune diseases. Yet 13 years in, my family literally believes that every dr appt I go to is gonna be the one that fixes everything and I’ll have no problems. That view of things is an infection that’s highly damaging and causes you to gas light people around you all the time. Because all advice is essentially, “well you just fix it and it’ll be fixed”. To problems that are objectively unsolvable.
And if you manage to not change and be comfortable with it you are definitely not progressing in life so it's like being a grasshopper in the summer hopefully some ants will help me in winter or get rekt in winter
@@JohnDoe-jf3uh Not necessarily ignoring it, just looking at it differently. Instead of being afraid, you can witness someone being brave and realize that you can be brave too. You can get angry (say, at injustice) and decide that you can be the change you want to see in the world.
Depends on how you define "solution". Objectively, thomas sowell was correct. There are only compromises. Many simply define "solution" as a situation in which they care little/zero about the trade-off being made.
Makes me think of something that I think came from Vlad Vexler talking about Ukraine. Their aim is to put dilemmas in the Kremlin's way, not problems. With problems there can be solutions. Dilemmas leave you with choices, but all of them are bad. For example, Putin needed ammo so he signed a defense pact with North Korea in exchange for the support on the war. But the downside to that is now South Korea is upset because their sworn enemy has another backer. In response, the South Koreans are mulling sending weapons to Ukraine instead of just monetary and humanitarian support.
Actually no S Korea actually got scared with the latest treaty they just signed and told NATO it won’t be sending anything more to Ukraine Putin’s move was for that to happen
That’s the way God made this world. There are not solutions to all problems, and some of them will probably never be solved. We have to try to be compassionate, moral creatures, but this is an incredibly complex temporal realm.
Absolutely true. Everyone keeps pretending some "social issues" are solvable problems or even problems at all. "Everything is a technical, solvable problem within my grasp"; such a TERRIBLE mindset. I've seen you say this, but you could focus more on this topic.

Some solutions to some problems is that the solution is to manage the problem, not fix the problem. Sometimes fixing the problem will actually make the problem worse, a cure could be worse than the disease.
There are always solutions. Sometimes the solution is a change of mindset and how you choose to react to a situation. Believing there are no solutions is self defeating and victimisation mindset to undermine or abdicate one’s own personal accountability and ability to determine their own outcome.
That’s not true though.
