    Based on your review I bought the Duromax 4500ih last February 2022. I bought mine mostly as an emergency home back up for refrigerator and 2 freezers, misc. electric stuff in a power failure. It works great for that. Very happy with it. I keep mine on the battery tender, and run it once a month for 10 minutes to make sure it is good to go. I am thinking of getting one more to run in parallel. Considered the Duromax XP9000iH, but I like the idea of two 4500's in case one breaks. And two smaller units are more manageable if they need to be moved or transported. Plus, 2 is 1, 1 is none right! Always enjoy your reviews. Thank you. ;)

    Great review however the westing house had the carburetor drain feature as long as the propane is not connected. The selector can be turned from gas to the propane side and it will run the carburetor dry.However the propane cannot be connected.

    Although I am not in need of such a large generator, if I were in the market I would probably choose the Westinghouse. Only because my little iGen2200 has not given me any trouble in the 2+ years I have owned it. That said, I do like the control panel on the Duromax better. I’m willing to bet both of these and the Champion 4500/4650 are all using the same exact engine and most likely stator also. Perhaps small differences with the rectifier. I wouldn’t let reliability concerns be the deciding factor, because there’s likely little to no difference. Select based on the features you want. Front panel features and connections, dual fuel, remote start, fuel tank size, and how well the sound insulation works.

      Hi David that would be a really good video to make. Since it would be really hard to carry the Duromax 9000 if you had two 4500 that would also give you a 9000w, you would still have dual fuel and when you don’t need all that power we could just run one.
      if one goes down you still have a backup for redundancy
      I’ll put this video idea on my list then will check the DB levels and power output and maneuverability

    As I mentioned on your earlier video there’s absolutely NO service information available for this product. I have been chasing my tail for over a month trying to get any kind of parts list or mechanical diagram or electrical schematic.
    I was stunned when the customer rep tried to tell me that no manufacturer releases that information.
    My champion actually included all the above with the manual as did Kohler as well Yamaha. In fact this is probably the only piece of equipment I have that doesn’t provide drawings & lists.

      That may be the reason. Having a parts diagram & list instills confidence that parts & service will be readily available when the need arises. The opposite gives me concern and the fact still remains all those manufacturers I mentioned include in the owner manual a complete set of drawings with parts & part numbers.
      I also discovered Duromax has withheld this info on virtually all their power equipment.
      I’m still in contact with duropower inc. trying to convince them it’s beneficial to make service diagrams public.
      Unfortunately more products are being designed as “no user serviceable” not only that but non repairable period, if it breaks throw it away.
      Gavin, I’m retired on a limited income and living in a rural area on the Wa coast. The ability to service my equipment is vitally important.

      Well, we are on our second DuroMax xp4500i Generator now and it too has already been sent back for repair. The first unit we received died in less than 15 hours. Was an electronic issue in the starter, according to the supplier. They were kind enough to send a new unit, since they didn't have any parts to repair our starter. The second generator only ran for a couple hours with no trouble, then it would only run for short, random periods of time (10 minutes max). The supplier sent a second return label and RMA. I have received the second generator, presumably repaired, from the supplier. I will let you know how things go from here. - I'm not looking for a solution from anyone, just letting you know about our experience with this product so far. We are getting pretty good at spending time breaking-in these generators and doing oil changes. - A very cold week of weather is expected. Good evening. Thank you for all of the wonderful information, I have learned so much from your videos. My concern is maintenance of a Westinghouse 4500DF that is only fueled by propane. I experience difficulty getting down onto the ground to drain and change oil etc. Is there a way to permanently and safely elevate the generator on a pedestal of sorts to make these tasks easier? I thought about the possibility of using a motorcycle lift (temporary for maintenance) or a cement block platform with raised edges to raise it permanently. Vibration is a concern for the platform option and I certainly wouldn't want it to vibrate itself off of the platform. LOL The generator is housed in a roomy storage building with exhaust to outside and adequate air ventilation. There is plenty of room for whatever would be the best solution. Thanks again.

    When you turned the microwave on with the Westinghouse, the amps were 36.8. When you turned the microwave on with the Duramax the amps were 39.8. That is 3 amps more with the Duramax. Why did the current draw change for the same load?

    • @GeneratorReviews
      @GeneratorReviews  Před 2 lety +2

      The amps changes because of other loads on the circuit may have been drawing more at that particular moment. The battery charger, A/C and refrigerator could have been pulling 1 amp more each. I always try to look at the big picture +- 2 to 3 amps.
      Thanks David for watching and sharing this, My subscribers always amazing me, you guys are awesome 😎

      @oks3ranch Před 2 lety +1

      The load between the test was almost identical, about 4150 watts. The reason the amps were higher on the Duromax is the voltage was about 10 volts lower than the Westinghouse at max load. The lower the voltage, the higher the amperage required to make same wattage. Westinghouse had better high load voltage support. Probably why it didn't trip during the test.

    hi gavin, I liked your video on the duromax 9000 so I got one. however I have watched several videos of yours and I dont know if you have mentioned using the generators at higher altitude such as 5000 ft and up i know that you lose a certain amount of performance at higher places do you have any info that would be helpful to the people that use these generators from 5000 ft and higher?

    • @GeneratorReviews
      @GeneratorReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      The only thing I can tell you is if you know you’re going to be at that high altitude, you can install a high altitude jet kit that should help with the higher altitude. I don’t know if they have one available for that particular generator yet but that would be my recommendation.

  • @tdm8817

    Granted I've never got my hands on either of these generators bout wouldn't switching the Westinghouse to the propane mode shut off the gasoline to the carb? I'd imagine that would be what that switch is, is just simply a gasoline shut off valve.

    Hey Gaven I wasn’t following what you said about running carb out, you can let it run till empty correct? With propane you can shut valve on tank and run it dry as well so there is no vapor…… where is the benefit? Just curious and thank you Sir!! Best channel on the tubes yall! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

    • @GeneratorReviews
      @GeneratorReviews  Před rokem +1

      When you shut the valve, it allows the carburetor to run dry, leaving gas in the carburetor gums up and it ruins it. The benefit is emptying the carburetor before storing it with gas in it.

    • @GeneratorReviews
      @GeneratorReviews  Před 2 lety

      A 1 HP submersible well pump will require a 2.5 KW internally regulated generator to operate the pump. A 30 amp breaker means the pump is smaller than 2 hp will use ~11 amps/2000 watts during operation and will require a 4 KW internally regulated generator to operate the pump
