- Step by step DIY gourd crafting project on how to make a painted gourd birdhouse decorated with ladybugs and blue daisies. The gourd is painted in leaf green and the roof in a white and black checkered pattern. The cheery red ladybugs and periwinkle blue daisies bring whimsy to this project and will brighten any corner of the garden. by Bernadette Fox (bernadettesgourdcreations.blog...)

I am sharing this with some young people to have them help me with my gourds. Thank you!
Beautiful
This a wonderful ,informative video! What type of paint do you use? Thank You
I used acrylic paint.
What is the best paint to use for outdoor use? I used alcohol based and when it was wet by rain the colors ran, I even used a lacquer
Pushing a small diameter dowel through the gourd and hanging from that with stiff wire helps a lot.
@@BernadetteGourder what does that have to do with my paint running? When I set it outside the alcohol based stain ends up running and coming off even with lacquer. Thanks for the reply
@@greenbuoy40 Apologize for that. Answering another question at the same time while holding a baby doesn't always work! :) Alcohol based ink dyes I wouldn't recommend for outdoors simply because of its poor colorfastness. The best paint I've found is latex or acrylic with several coats of polyurethane. But with a birdhouse and a hole cut in it, don't expect your birdhouse to last many years. It will eventually get wet and paint will start peeling. The best way to keep it nice as long as possible is bring it in during the winter and apply a coat of sealer every year.
@@BernadetteGourder thank you very much, I totally understand babies take our time and attention and they are so precious so congratulations! When I replied I hope you know my tone wasn’t in a rude manner as it’s hard to tell someone’s tone in messages, but I do appreciate your reply and will look for this types of paints, I just love your videos and your skills so thank you for those as well.
Do you find that your gourds stay protected out side with the urethane spray? I find mine still start
To peel after being out in the weather. Am I just using the rong stuff?
Your best bet is to bring them in every winter. Like anything it will eventually peel, but you can extend its life by making resealing it a spring chore every year before you hang it outside. :)
@@BernadetteGourder ok ok then thankyou I will try that😊
