    Overall I've been very impressed with the Wicked Edge sharpening systems! I have a passion for precision in the art of knifemaking and these machines complement that very well. If yall are interested in some of their products you can check out their amazon store here - amzn.to/45XUu63 or their direct website here - wickededgeusa.com/collections/sharpeners .

    I have had a wicked edge for about 8 years now. For several years i had been putting too much tension on the vice, gradually bending the aluminum jaws and eventually broke the bolt. It was my fault, so i never attempted to have it replaced. I just happened to make a comment on a CZcams video about using the wicked edge, admitting my mistake as a warning to others. Clay Allison himself replied to my comment and told me to email him. Even with the knowledge that i had put too much tension on the vice, causing the failure myself, he replaced my vice jaws with the then- new upgraded gen 3 jaws. Wicked Edge is a stand up company.

    James is always putting out great content that causes me to spend money! 🙂 I was literally just ordering the steel for my press that I am building, by using his plans, when this video was posted.... now I have the hankering for the Wicked Edge 4 now as well! Thanks James! I may need you to convince my wife that this knife making addiction is a good thing for me! 🙂

      LOL, glad to be of service sir! Your decision may be made for you; since it seams Wicked Edge is having a hard time keeping these Gen4PRO machines in stock! Seems to be a good deal of demand.... so now you can order your steel and give your wife a sweet idea for a Christmas gift?! hahaha, cheers

    My WE100 is still going strong after...7 years now I think? At the time it was the best sharpener out there, but these newer ones just blow mine away entirely with cool features. Good news is that even the cheapest models do essentially the same thing, and I've been able to pick up almost all of their stones at this point, so I can really put a mirror finish on my blades.

    Nice review! I have the Gen 3 and am pretty happy with the results. The 4 looks great, but I probably will not pay to upgrade. Just a question for you--if you are maintaining a good edge (no major corrections needed) on kitchen knives, what grit do you start with? I'm starting with 200, but wanted an expert opinion.

    • @RedBeardOps
      @RedBeardOps  Před 7 měsíci +1

      For sure not an expert! I think you could start higher than 200 for maintained. Maybe 400-600 to start. Getting that bur back

      lol; all that matters is a sharp knife!

    • @stephenWVU4life
      @stephenWVU4life Před 5 měsíci

      True that! And it’s a fantastic guided system! Really the only things I’d see on the knew ones that appeal to me are the ease of adjusting your degrees and the improved micro adjustments setting. My WE130 has a real issue with the micro adjustment wanting to loosen up on ya as you’re sharpening.

    Great video! What would be the main advantages of getting the Micro Adjust option? I'm planning to use this for mostly home use, sharpening knives, scissors, chisels, etc.Thanks!

      If you're sharpening knives that don't have perfectly symmetrical secondary bevels and you don't want to fully reprofile it; you can match the existing bevel. I guess this could come into play if you're not 100% straight in the vice as well. To be honest I don't use this feature often.

      Is the micro adjustment feature sturdy? Seems like another potential failure point and I wouldn't want an uncentered secondary bevel.

    I want to see you fillet tracing paper without going all the way through the paper, that's a serious sharpness test.

    I was on their website last night looking at sharpeners. They have the gen 3 on sale for $500 less than the gen 4. Should I get the gen 3? I'm a weekend warrior blade Smith but I'm having a hard time getting the edge I want. Great video 👍

      Honestly they are both great machines! Sounds like a good deal on the earlier generation... This is the review I did on it - czcams.com/video/R9K7idCh_VU/video.htmlsi=GSPV766393O4daV-

      I have a gen 3 Pro and like it. Stability is great without even needing to clamp to the bench. Storage for the blocks is handy too. The only annoyance is that the degree markings are not very accurate. I would really recommend ordering their magnetic digital angle gauge too. Just adds a minute or two to setup, but the results are great.
