BTW whenever anyone talks about FTL, I always end up thinking of the game developer company that made Dungeon Master which was my first next gen dungeon crawler on my good old Amiga 500.

If you are slightly competent when it comes to orbital trajectories then Scott Manley isn't all that high up on the metaphorical ladder. It's simple physics, not rocket science.

I recently got this game on Switch for a major discount of 90% off. My sister got me into playing it and well, I love it, but I haven't gone back to playing it after I killed all my crew. I kinda went into an emotional wreck because of it, but that's because the game is so beautiful with the visuals, music and characters. I told myself, I will play the game to learn it so I can teach my sister how it works. It receives so much hate though, but that's mainly for the Lander mechanics, yet it's obviously simple to figure out. I agree it is not easy to get right, especially when convection is strong against strong gravity pulling you. The convection is the wind by the way. My sister though. She gets so angry with the game because of the mistakes she often makes. She wants to enjoy it, but she can't. You question the fact that you can't zoom out, but the only way the zooming out works is when you go faster. If you notice the grid squares, they get smaller the faster you go. But you only go at the speed of 6. Sorry it's such a late reply. I was searching for one of my favourite themes from the game and found this playthrough of the game. You must feel so lucky you played Lunar Lander, because that is why you understand the Lander mechanics. I'm amazed at how smooth your Lander skills were sometimes.

it's more realistic if you can't zoom out to see where the planet is because you can't actually do that in space. I think that's what they're going for else they would have added a zoom.

I'm kinda disappointed that the developers missed a great chance for a classic reference when they didn't call the safest planetary expeditions "Mostly Harmless". And it would be more accurate; technically, you can be harmed if you attempt a lithobraking maneuver.

I've been watching your vids for a minute now and been wondering how old you are since we share a lot of references but LUNAR LANDER, wow, don't sound that old but homie, that's some serious old school. And so it the LM love, nothing like those Apollo ships.
This game looks neat, I loved the Ender's Game books.
Another game worth checking out with a similar theme is Crying Suns.

Its from Daedalic Studio West which is a part of Daedalic Entertainment. Known for Deponia or Night of the Rabbit or Edna & Harvey ;)
I would be more likely to buy this game without knowing that.
Why? This does not make any sense. If you like the game and would buy it, why would you not buy it after knowing who made it?
BaiTienLong, think about it like this. You see a nice car that you want to buy, but then you find out the manufacturer is known for shoddy safety features in their vehicles. I don't know anything about Daedalic Entertainment or those games you listed, but badminton's reaction is the same as you'd have in the scenario above.
BaiTienLong Knowing the company is meaningless. Every company makes good and bad games. Not every game is gonna be good from one company. It's not like your gonna buy the other company game if you knew them. Your still going to buy all the games you yourself is only interested. Not because a company made a game.
Sometimes you just don't wanna support someone. Sometimes the publisher reputation may tip the odds.
I really enjoyed Deponia series for what it was, but I bought after it was all compiled into a single game. From what I hear once they made the combined title, they completely deserted the old ones, and people who were buying them as they came (or one at a time because of price) had to buy the complete release if they wanted to have the latest patches and updates.
I personally don't hold a grudge against them (and they certainly evolved from the time they were making the Deponia series), but I am vary when looking at their games.

wasn't there a game on some windows(win95/98) with a moon lander where if you go to fast you crash it. when i saw the landing on mars i got the same vibe with the map and all.
You don't need a zoom. YOU, SplatterCatGaming, need to use the minimap to know where things are in relation to where you are.... :)
which is exactly what are you asking for when you said you'd be happy with little lights and a line to know where you are... it's there in the minimap all along...
Hey @SplatterCatGaming, I love you and all #nohomo, but the first indie game to make it big, which made way for the others was "World of Goo".
The ship is likely harder to stabilize because of the winds on the planet.
Please play more of this and do another run of jalopy!
Yeah, this game looks pretty fun, but the tutorial should really be a bit more in depth. How the weapons work, how you assign people specific jobs, letting you learn how to navigate your ship and the lander a bit better and especially the resource mini-game.
I've seen people bring their landers hull down quite a bit, because they hadn't connected the occasional explosion noises, the little bar going into the red to show drilling depth and their lander taking damage yet.
It's not a deal-breaker, but if you're going in blind they are basically ruining your first run by having you figure this out without even giving a hint.
