  • Franz Rogowski is interviewed by Stefan Pape for Great Freedom, Austria's official submission for international feature film at the 2022 Oscars. The film is directed by Sebastian Meise and stars Georg Friedrich, Anton Von Lucke and Thomas Prenn.
Plot: In post-war Germany, liberation by the Allies does not mean freedom for everyone. Hans has been found guilty for his homosexuality, deemed grounds for imprisonment under Paragraph 175. Over the course of decades, he is spied on and repeatedly jailed as a result.
As Hans returns to prison again and again, he develops an unlikely bond with his cellmate Viktor, a convicted murderer. What begins as revulsion blossoms over time into something far more tender.
Great Freedom will be released on the 11th of March 2022.

@@emmadupont4603 i first saw him in Undine by Christian Petzold, then Transit. he's marvelous. childlike and instinctive, organic, natural, ethereal. Luzifer is another great film of his, in where he's intense, primal, menacing... he's unique and beside his piercing intelligence he seems to have what is extremely rare in even the most perceptive people - he's penetratingly intuitive. the stuffs only great artist are made of.

Too nuanced for Lanthimos' stylized distancing.
