The Sony DVD/radio sound system doesn't have the optical just the RCA red and white. Yellow for the video which is in the back of the TV. As for the Android box it has HDMI, 3.5m av slot like a phone. And the SPDIF. I have a splitter from a 3.5m headjack to a red and white on the sound system. I have sound and video coming from tv with HDMI for and Android box. I just don't have sound from tv to sound system.

Steve, I am planning a new TV purchase. This video was helpful, but I do have a question. You mention in the set up process the TV speakers need to be turned off to enable to the digital optical output. Is this required with all of these newer sets? Currently, I have the audio outputs connected to a high end vintage audio system which we only use some of the time. We also have the regular audio from the TV available. Is that still possible?

Thanks for making this video.I had already purchased a converter & was able to connect it to my smart TV in 5 minutes with your help. I have an old amplifier connected to boxes that have a excellent sound & did not want to have to purchase a soundbar.
€23.18 for a converter or €300 upwards for a soundbar with the kind of quality I prefer especially for music is financially fantastic and more environmentally friendly. So thank you SteveđŸ™đŸŸ

You can also use an ARC extractor, which works exactly the same, however uses one of the TV's HDMI ports as an output, and connects it via the converter turning it into L/R wires for your audio system, but with the advantage of allowing the TV's remote to adjust the volume

So I’m going to use this to allow us to adjust the volume on the couch. I was going to use the “Dayton Audio WBA51 Multi-Room Wi-Fi Streamer with AirPlay and Spotify Connect” but it’s $80. So I’m hoping this $23-ish device will work.

However, I wish all devices still could have analog outputs because an adapter which needs a power supply of it's own is a bit awkward. Of course the benefit of optical output is that it is not galvanic connection so it for example helps preventing ground loops between audio devices.

Hi Steve! I'm actually having problems with the setup of the device to convert digital to analog. When I connect the 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm port of my JBL Xtreme portable speaker this one makes a continuous noise and I don't get sound from the TV. Now, there's another element: I happen to have a set top cable box hooked up to the TV, where should I connect the optical cable? From the output port of the TV or the one at the set top cable box in order to get sound? Mightily confused 😕

Hi great and simple video. I have a question. I have an audiophile of @ acoustics speakers 3020i connected with my pioneer vsxD712. Would you recon a good DAC for the sources like computer desktop, record player and for tv as well. I am really confused on this. I thought my VSX D 712 av receiver already contains a DAC. Can you please clarify and suggest me plz

Thank you, Steve! I've been looking for a way to control the volume to my tv when hooked up to my speakers through my mini amp. Do you happen to know if there is any other way?

If you are serious about getting a good sound, I recommend paying a bit more money for a quality DAC. These things can cost thousands for high-end stuff, but anything over $200 should be fine for most people.

Hi Steve, I just can across your video with the same exact problem. I also got the same DAC. I'm having an issue connecting my Yamaha stereo receiver RX-V390 to the DAC. I am however, able to choose and see the DAC on my Q60t and can see the audio signal move up and down. But the sound does not come out of the Bose speakers that are connected to my old stereo. Any idea on how I can fix it. I've tried a few things with no luck. Thank you for the informative video.

Thank you for the video, unfortunately I couldn't get a converter to work with Samsung UN65NU6900. I connected to a sound system that's connected to speakers through out the house via optical and set switch to T for optical input, go thu sound settings on TV and nothing, no sound, I plug in headphones and get a terrible screeching sound, I then tried a phone speaker that I know works because I use it with my phone....I plug it into the headphones jack on converter and screaching sound again. Any other ideas of what I could try? The converter I purchesed looks exactly like the one you are using but without a remote.

So what will work. I tried connecting the system to the tv only but it doesn't work. So will this converter work with my issue. I have a Vizio 4k if that helps any.

is there any way of connectin speakers to your TV but also not losing the TV sound I want to be able to put on the TV as normal but if I'm watching a movie I wouldn't be able to switch over and add to my stereo as well as coming from the TV or do all TVs lose their sound when it's connected to another source

    Hello.
have a question . I have an hard drive that I can connect to the stereo amp. But the screen of the amp is so old and dimm that I cant see what to choose unless my face is 1 inch from the amp screen. Is there a way I can connect a screen to see what tracks I can choose or to the tv so it displays what I choose but plays on the amp. Maybe a split between the hard drive to the amp and TV. Does that exist?
