  • To deal with a (probably) dying voltage regulator or alternator, I decided to go with an internally regulated alternator from a 99-2004 Frontier 4 cylinder.
For this to work in a 260Z, you need to change the wiring on the fuel pump relay #1 and bypass the seat belt interlock relay as both in the circuit with the external voltage regulator in the 260Z.
I purchased the alternator from Rockauto. It was listed as a new (not rebuilt) part, SKP SK13778.
You will also need an alternator harness. I bought one from Amazon, www.amazon.com..., but you can find them on ebay, too, www.ebay.com/s.... Just look for the 2 wire harness in the results.

This was helpful, but please cut the video short next time…nobody needs and wants to see how you struggle to get bolts in and out for 30min. A 7min video would have been long enough and shows everything too ✌🏻

So the frontier alternator was a direct replacement? Far as bolting up to the 260z factory alternator?

The alternator case size is essentially the same size as the Z alternator, and it bolted right in. The pulley on the 4 cylinder Frontier alternator matches up well to the belt on the Z. The pulley on the 6 cylinder is designed for a serpentine belt. I have also installed the 4 cylinder Frontier alternator on a friend's 77, and he has been pleased with the results. I hope that answers your question.
