She chooses to be kind here, Reeve having passed and all. Elsewhere, she is on record that Reeve could be something of a dick on set, and that he ended up being rather less friendly towards her than he was in the beginning. Of course, they were working on a physically challenging movie for months and months, and over time, some frictions were hard to avoid.

@@Cenindo that wasn't her, that was Jack o'halloran. And that guy was a useless dick in the movie so who cares what he says. At least Reeve wasn't an arrogant prick on and off-screen, that thinks the world revolves around him, treats women like trash, and can only get a date with teens aka Cavill. But then Cavill never played Superman so that also doesn't matter.

There is something about the films of the 70's they just have a different "look" about them. I don't know if it was the film stocks or lighting but they have a very "Classic" "LOOK" to them. Films today don't look the same. Superman is one of those films. When it comes on the screen you know it is from a certain era. Maybe it was Geoffrey Unsworths photography. Maybe it was the film stocks. But they knew how to put "Presence" on screen. Maybe it was the classically trained British actors. I don't know. But films today do not LOOK the same.

I think the whole HD thing is leading to this desire to make things bright, crystal clear and photorealistic. But films back then were much more willing to use a softer focus to create a mood. @roquefortfiles Před 4 lety

If the Original print is digitally cleaned up with scratches removed then a wet gate scan done THEN the 4K will look fabulous. But it doesn't "Improve" the source material. If the original is all scratched and faded so will the 4K. And you'll be able to "See" all the junk even better.

Reeve was going around telling people about Jack's dad being involved with the mafia so Jack pulled him aside and had a little chat with him. Then Reeve made a scene in front of everyone so Jack had him against the wall before he dropped him and walked off. O'Halloran was a professional boxer who went up against George Foreman so he wasn't someone you wanted to piss off. Jack was always telling stories on the set, once so loudly that Terence Stamp had to yell for him to get to a scene.

Her point about the costumes they wore versus the ones the villains wore in Man of Steel is great. What she was talking about here is what is called Cinematic Language. You might not have noticed, but your brain did (to quote Mike Stoklasa).
Look at what Zod, Ursa, and Non are wearing. Just these black outfits. Black indicates not only that they're villains, but more importantly they don't need anything else. They evoke power because they don't need anything else. Whereas the version of Ursa, Faora-Ul, played by Antje Traue, is wearing what obviously is armor, and she gets a knife going. You can say that she's basically wearing a Kryptonian spacesuit, which is fine, but the Cinematic Language it conveys is a little confusing.

If they ever do an ultimate cut of Superman II, they should get Sarah to dub her dialogue. Her dialogue in the theatrical cut, and any scenes reused from that cut in other versions, was dubbed over by Annie Ross. You can see in the deleted scenes Sarah's real voice back then was rather high-pitched. But now that she's older, her voice is deeper and she has less of an accent. She could easily dub in her dialogue now with the gravitas that the director was looking for.

      Not true.

    • @jedijones
      @jedijones Před rokem

@@spaceaceasmr1446 These are quotes about the matter from someone on a Facebook group. I should be clear that her entire voice and dialogue wasn't necessarily wiped out. But it's clear that Annie Ross did some ADR looping on Sarah's dialogue.
"Some of both Terence Stamp's and Sarah Douglas's lines were dubbed and overdubbed. So Sarah's voice is filtered with both her own and that of Annie Ross who went on to play Vera in Superman III. So, when you hear "You! What kind of a creature are you?" - that's more Annie's voice, yet at the end, "Release the General, or we'll tear her apart" - that's more Sarah's. It's because the film was so rushed in post-production to make it's release date after the reshoots with Richard Lester, that's why it sounds a little uneven in places"
"Well, I only know it because I happen to know Sarah D......she told me a long time ago and we never discussed it again as I was told that they just did it and Sarah only found out when she first saw the film, she opened her mouth and someone else's voice came out. Needless to say, she wasn't happy that they had never had the manners to tell her. Which is quite understandable."

Villains are what it sounds like. To be evil.
So why should they not be portrayed as such.
Furthermore what is the BS where Lois Lane has such power of Superman. Rubbish.
The man of Steel is next to Godlike.
In my opinion superman needs a serious reboot.
Not the pathetic all sweet lover boy crap we always get.

The official Superman 5-Superman Returns-(the official entry in the Richard Donner/Richard Lester series) unfortunately was a disappointment. Its better than 3 and 4 but still no classic. Brandon Routh-despite being a Christopher Reeve lookalike-lacks the charisma of the previous star.

The new movies are crap compared to Superman The Movie. Too bad the execs fucked up the series permanently, after that.

She's nearly 70 you know. I think she looks pretty good. Most British people don't believe in having plastic surgery or botox, unlike Americans.
