Prince Charles Presents Parachute Regiment With New Colours! • EXTENDED HIGHLIGHTS

    The Prince of Wales has presented the British Army's Parachute Regiment with new Colours in Colchester, Essex.
    The new Regimental Colours will replace those presented to the battalions in Aldershot 23 years ago.

      @Anthony Sawyer they're still pretty good. The elite units have been left untouched and I believe they still do the same training as back in the day. The full curriculum for training is on the Wikipedia for "1 Parachute Battalion" if you're interested. The battle of Bangui in 2013 showed they can still fight.

      @john knusson 4 para, like the other three battalions, is infantry only. Other attached arms (artillery, engineers, etc) are part of 16 Air Assault Brigade but not The Parachute Regiment itself.

    Colours historically helped commanders see which troops were where on the battlefield. New Colours here due to new battle honours and to look smarter as they gradually wear out in ceremonial use.

      I was in Montgomery Barracks with 27Regt RCT. We were your ground support ‘cause we weren’t daft enough to jump out of planes!! That’s why we were the Troggs and you were the elite! Remember the block invasions well, much fun was had with broomsticks only they weren’t used for flying 😆

    Superb great to see the reg Getting new colours. Being an ex para myself it's a great honour for the regiment. Good to see 1 para there and of course gleaming 2 and gungy 3 haha.
    4 para had new colours presented a few years back I recall.
    Also you hats out there, the parachute regiment is a massive capability which this country needs.

    Hmmm. He didn't mention that the flag staff's would be cut in half for the chapel. The cut off part is then used to make pace sticks that are then presented to WO's.

      Pull the other one! Yea, in the old days when we came back from the Canal Zone and each company had their own “Charwala” and we had bodies to spare to make things from scratch. These days they were lucky to find a second hand smock to give to the HRH. Charles’s first jump over water was nearly his last, he always was one for sticking his feet in the wrong places. Mind you we preferred him to Margret! Cheers mate. Harera

    My old Dad would be so proud today. RSM Jim Campbell I believe started in the second battalion (After leaving the Argyles and went on to run the 15th Scottish (I am always slightly nervous naming names as I don't want to get it wrong). When I see the Regiment in action I always think of him

    Those guys are true warriors!!!!! And I thank them! Ok I don't even live in UK, but Canada!!! But these guys protect freedom around the globe!!!!!! And I know! They would happily lay down their lives for any order or operation!!!!! Even if we the public never even know about it....... I thank you all for your service! I am not military, but if war ever came to Canada, I'm a good shot in hunting for wild game, I'd so lay down my life for any of these true warriors!!!

      Priceless alright, his original one was only loaned to him by my CQMS and was returned (it was washed by his own valet) and re issued to a bloke from a new intake as good as new! Mind you, the price of the same smock now on e-bay would have paid for a new set of my No.2’s! Cheers mate and Harera.

    Just showed this to my father, Brian Sharman, who is in a nursing home suffering from advanced dementia, an ex para, his eyes lit up. Very rare to see a reaction from him, but this was a rare one. Served in all three battalions, ended his career a Major, receiving an MBE from King (then Prince) Charles. Great memories for me too. 👍

      The guy was making a humorous remark to Paras who will know exactly how that can happen and probably has. It was a way of linking his experiences to theirs. Charles is full of self deprecating humour. Its why people like him.
      Apart from which he has been there and done it, earned the beret, got the wings as a pilot and served as a Skipper in the Navy.
      He has nothing to apologise for.

    Wow. I recall the past turnover of colours in Aldershot, and the laying up of colours in NI and the Falklands from 3 and 2 Para respectively. And now how old am I? Young warrior just over 20 years ago, to watching a CZcams video of a ceremony I’m now too old to participate in. Proud to have been one of the few Americans to have served in the Parachute Regiment for 2+ years. Up the Regt!, up 2 Para! Absolutely the best years of my career and I miss the lads every day. Don’t miss these ceremonies tho ;-)

      Hi John, your only problem was in being on attachment to 2 Para when you could have followed in the footsteps of the officers and senior sergeants from the USA Army that served in 3 Para. I served under two American Officers Commanding my C Company 3 Para in the sixties. The first officer was from the Screaming Eagles and the second from the Rangers. Three things they could not get use to, smaller parachutes, bigger gear to carry in the field and the use of boots instead of vehicles to move from a to b! Cheers mate. Harera

      Any new battle honours will have been added otherwise they are the same.

      @@_leon4560 I think there was a set presented in the late 90's. Normally new colours are presented roughly every 20 years and then they are 'retires' to the memorial chapel where they fade over time. As I think I said they w ll have any battle honours won since the last presentation added on, so each flag will have all the battle honours to the last battle before presentation. The current set will have everything from WW2 to Afghanistan on it, .

    Maroon Machine that set the standard for all Paras and Airborne troops the World over! If I didn't suffer with Asthma would of been the 1st Regiment I would of selected and then close 2nd RMC. Great regiment and proud warrior history.
