Mine just arrived. It's crazy light weight! The keys are all black which looks super cool. My last synth daw was a roland xp80. It was So. Heavy. I loved my xp 80. I did an entire album on it. Not to write a book on it, but I'm gonna use the fa06 to control my mc303 to control my sr16 drum machine. This fa06 is just so light weight!
Thanks to your videos, I finally pulled the trigger and got this keyboard. It is AWESOME. I've only had it for 3 days so still getting used to it. Your videos are seriously helpful. There are lots of videos on this keyboard and yours are by far the best. Explaining each feature and showing how it's done is great. I should have this pretty much mastered in a month or so. Great info ....I just started with my awesome FA-08
So it took me a while to figure out that the Sequence is reliant on the Studio Set. If you save the Song ... and added sounds out side of the Studio Set selected ... you MUST also save the changes you made to the Studio Set.
I like to start a new Sequence with both as blank and empty.
I was saving Sequence track with random sounds ...shutting down... and when I reloaded the sequence- it would play what was recorded, but would trigger the wrong sounds. The preset Studio set was returned as the sound list. All because I didn’t Save the Studio Set AND the Song when I composed and finished.
But if you have more than one Song using the same Studio Set, remember any changes you make are applied globally.
Hence- When I start a new Sequence- I also start a new Blank Studio Set and save both every session.
The Manual explains that ... Studio Sets are stored in internal memory...
Songs are stored on an SD card.
I know you can use the Studio Sets as they we’re designed and there are a lot of them... but I like to find my own combinations... and recall them with each Song uniquely.
I haven’t seen this stressed in the videos on the FA-0 series.

I got mine turing up in 2 days time. I don't know this synth & I'm very rusty from a long hiatus from making some music. I am watching as many CZcams fa 07 clips as I can before it gets hear.

Thanks Ed, great tutorials, we want more! Can you program several loops in the same sequence and trigger them from the pads? A loop being an intro or a chorus or etc…

hi, while making a studio set for live playing, is it also possible to save the layer & split points, if for example you want to put a manual bass on the left side, and save it to a studio set. is that possible?
Can you record an audio track together within the midi sequencer? And export audio track and the Midi one separatedly?
this keyboard seems to do what it wants and NOT what you want , just trying to save simple effects !!!! you go back to the tone ( SOUND } later and the effect didn't save after so many times pressing Write ok SAVE !!!!!!!!! and I agree with Jon its a Pain getting in and out of user sounds which Roland call TONES !!!! SO Glad I have my Korg Kronos :{
Roland has called the basic building block of a patch a "Tone" since before you were born.... It is no more difficult to edit a "Tone" on a Roland synth, then it is to edit a "Element" on a Yamaha, or an "OSC" on a Korg...
It's just a name.
How do you pull it back up after saving
Can you do sequencing like by part like stanza,chorus, and place it in sample? so i can get like an arranger type. Thanks
Are the samples existing on your SD card? If I pull the card from mine, the banks all go dark. Put the card back in, and they light up. Be sure you have the sample info on the card that the keyboard came with when new.
Ed, you forgot to let the viewers know at minute 9:25, the FA quantized the notes you erased which you haphazardly recorded and if the viewers pay attention can clearly hear how well the FA did just that.
Can you create latin percussion rhythms using the congas and timbales ,for salsa rhythms, and adding the bass guitar with the piano
Hi, is the loop lenght applied to all the parts or each one can have its own loop lenght? When you first select the EP Piano part 3, loopo lenght it was selected as 4 measures but then when you started recording it turned to two measures, just like set on the part 10 Many thanks!
Roland, can you PLEASE do an update for the tempo knob. It's SOOOO frustratingly over sensitive. To go up or down in tempo, you have to move the knob SUCH a minuscule amount to go from say 120-121 etc.
I just want to quickly, but accurately dial in a tempo, instead of overshooting high, then low, then high...nearly got it, ARRGH! NEARLYYYYY, OH FFS! etc.
I'm a chilled guy, but this is killing me, and at gigs, it must be a reason to cry!
Please can you somehow make it somehow speed sensitive, so that spinning fast, leaps in 10s, then slowing the knob does increments? Maybe using something like the shift button to slow it?
This is not a cheap keyboard, and it's functionality is great, but SWEET JESUS, that tempo knob!!!!!

ok i think you hold the shift button and then press "Click" and then you can use DEC and INC
I just scroll to the tempo and use INC-DEC otherwise you might be there a while haha

what about continuing on from the first 2 bars, is it just select a measure and continue?
What is the max number of measures you can scroll through horizontally? Also how many live (linear) recording tracks can you put over each other and the sequencer?
It looks like any TFX effects are not being recorded at any time.
Is there any way to use those TFX effects on particular track only? or even better; just for a few moments, on and off?
No recording option lets you register any changes of the TFX (WAH,REVERB,VOICE TRANS,OCTAVE,RING MOD,VINYL SIM etc.)

Fisrtplates Tothebeatyall - You can trigger the samples from the keys (1 MIDI note per pad with velocity either via its keyboard, sequencer or external MIDI). Multi-sampling or spreading out a sample pitched across multiple keys isn't supported (though I'm hoping for a future update to allow this). As for your comment about there being only 4 non-synth Bass patches that's totally incorrect. I believe there are 12 SuperNATURAL bass tones. There are quite a few more PCM non-synth bass tones.
Can't find how to add bars or erase bars - all the sequencing videos only show the dwfault 4 bar setup . I can I change the start-end position for the song part ?

Hi I've just purchased the FA 06. Do you have to compose a song via a studio set? This is quite annoying. I want to start a new song from scratch. The studio set complicates every action. Can you have a blank canvas to work on? Maybe I'm missing something.
A lot of people including myself who own a Roland Synth (any model) have had a common problem of their units lcd screen going blank (lit up but no graphics displayed) or just totally out. I've had an XP50 and currently own a Juno G, both of them had their lcd screens go blank. My Juno G still blank today. Most users say it's a very common Roland issue. And it's not an easy thing to fix due to replacement problems. I like Roland but this problem is just demoralizing.
I don't know if anyone else has come across this yet but. there are a couple of things that i had hoped would be covered here. In the (Track modify) mode I have tried to alter the transpose for either an individual track mainly to move it down a complete octave (example -12) also I have tried similar to the velocity and no matter how many times I have tried and executed it doesn't do anything. I have tried transposing all tracks just to see if it can be done. I have the latest update in the machine and I'm quite reasonably ok at managing other synths that do exactly the same thing, but for some reason these particular parameters are not working for me. I'm hoping that I have overlooked something, but did wonder if there could be a bug in the Synth. Any feedback would be greatly appretiated.

Metronome tones can be changed. There are 4 different tones for the 'nome, so not to worry. One of them is even cowbell. :-)
I have a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!

Is it possible to erase a bad reecording faster? Let's say I am recording 8 bars and do a mistake, then I don't want to hold the "erase all" button for all of the 8 bars just to erase the notes. The previous Fantom products had the possibility to record by "replace" (instead of mix), which solved this issue. But this functionality seems to be missing here. It would be cool to have another button next to "erase all" while recording, which would immediatly erase a whole track.

i bougt this keyboard specifically the FA 08 but im not really happy wirh it. i wish the Fantom G was still being sold. i personally had the G8 and miss it like crazy after selling it. ive only had this piano for 5 days but i am definitely still not digging it. i might just return in back to Guitar center and wait for something better to be made.
What was the thing about it you didn't like? I'm in the market and had this far liked the reviews, but am interested in negative reviews before dropping the cash.
@@mikelunz some of the sounds sound a bit on the artificial side and it lacks sounds that the Integra 7 rack has that Roland made the FA sound like it had, when it comes to recording audio, it lacks the sound effects that most synths have and I also wasn't able to record audio from a real bass or Guitar like I can on the Fantom G, it does have a very nice screen but its very small, there are also no fader slider control knobs, it does have 6 round knobs for a sound you are recording from within the FA, similar to the sliders on the Fantom G but only 1 of them is fully programable.
Also it doesn't have that many sounds from the Integra 7 rack that Roland was making it sound like it was supposed to have. However for its price point it is understandable as to why so many more features were not added to it. I personally wanted to test put the new fantom that just came out that is the Successor to the Fantom G but Covid happened during that time so alot of stores like Guitar Center and Sam Ash were closed. I would recommend that you try it out at a Music store like the stores I mentioned for your self and then decide if you want to get it. To be honest I am being very picky and a bit unfair to the FA but its a decent deal if you can get the FA-08 for under $1,500 USD then I think its a decent deal.

You have to save your studio set, not just your song.
our sound keeps cutting out and the transpose keeps popping up while playing even though we are not trying to transpose. I think it's dying a slow death! Does anyone have a fix for that or have the same experience?

How do i keep the level from resting after the loop restarts????? when I mix the levels start back up on the drums only???? drives me crazy when i am trying to kill the bass and it starts back up auomatically after looping???

Exactly! We always have to save both, the song AND the studio set, which is very anoying. I hope they are going to change that in an update.

Just bought the FA08. What is the quickest way to transfer songs from my Fantom X7? I have updated the FA08 to v2.03, which allows, INT/EXT/Both, from the sequencer. I use an external Roland XV-3080 module, plus midi lights, from the X7. Does the FA08 sequencer tracks, allow more than one instrument on it?
Example; Ch1, Ch2, & Ch3 on FA08 track 2, going to EXT XV-3080? Or is it one instrument per track, from the FA08?
The X7 also allowed me to play, more than one sound , along with the song, during performance, plus I was able to save the song with an induvidual Transpose! ie If the song KEY was Eb, I could physically play it in another, say C?

@@wintonwilmot8923 No reply, but I have worked a few things out myself! Only 16 channels compared to the Roland X7, which, with Internal & External, gives you 32. It is one channel per track, again not multiple like the X7 ie FA-Track 1 is Ch 1 - Track 2 is Ch 2 etc
FA version 2.03 update gives output access to Int/Ext/Both! In sequencer mode press SHIFT then SONG UTIL. Go to Track settings, you can change output assign here! Unfortunately on EXT, the INT sounds play also!! Hitting the MUTE button on sequencer tracks, of the EXT, gets round this ! Pain!!
You HAVE to save a Studio Set before the SONG too. I have set up Ch 15 & 16 split. This allows me to play two instruments behind the sequence song for live.
I have only briefly looked at the FA manual, thankfully I have a good understanding of Roland kit, which helps greatly? :) Hope this helps in some way?

Hi, I've got one question please... I'm trying to create a song using the sequencer mode. Whenever I do "song select" and load a song after saving one of my creation (even just four measures with, say, four different parts) it plays it with different preset sounds, not the ones I had set up before... don't know why. Can anybody help? Thank you
You don't just save the song. That will just save the notes on ur song. You also have to save your studio set with ur sounds. Just go to the "Write" button then select "Studio Set" Then save ur studio set. Then it will save your sounds.

Even if Studio Set is modified and saved with a different name then Song is saved with new Studio Set, then I load Song with new Studio Set, see all changes done for new Studio Set, but then it plays with old Studio Set. Somehow 'play' command finds old Studio Set and prefers it.

That's usually defaulted in the "Song" save feature.
Just for sake of completeness: why, if you record a 2-bar loop, the sequencer shows 4 measures like they were filled with data?

Hey Guys I love the Keyboard, but I've hit a wall. Im try to export a Stereo Mix that has a sample in it. Problem is the Sample does not export with the mix. Can You Help?
Marcus: I wish I knew. And I wish there were more basic step-by-step tutorials for the FA 06 and someone who is knowledgeable who could answer specific questions like this.
Maybe I'm not using the erase function right, but do you have to hold down the keys for the entire measure to erase what you've just laid down? I seem to have to laboriously wait for the entire measure to play out, to erase everything, and even then, when i lift off, I still have one or two notes still laid down still.
If I'm doing it wrong, please reply to this, and explain how to do it with instant erase of every note. Your man on here seems to hold down the erase as long as I do, and that's time consuming and frustrating, if you're in 'the flow'.
I discovered tonight you can also just hit undo. That gets rid of the track you want to redo.

I did a sequence with sounds I wanted. I saved it, but the sounds were different when I played it back. What did I miss?
SAME HERE! That really annoys me, all the work put into getting the sound right, and you go to play it back, and sure, it plays the sequence but a garbled mess of sounds!
I figured t put. Save your sounds as a studio set. Done.
It really is simple once I figured it out. Pay attention to the choices on the screen. Save your sounds as a studio set. Use the write function, and save it.

The studio set will load when you load the song.
Every Pad on the right of my FA-08 is unlit and EVERY Pad Bank says EMPTY .........
Is there a way to restore to default settings ........... I tried but it did not restore the Sample Drums on the pads

You have to save your Studio Set FIRST then save your Song after that.

Check out Ed's videos. It's there. You can only have 2 sets at a time. To load a new one, you'll have to overwrite one that's already loaded.

Don't use the loop, just record each part of the song one at a time, I usally start with the drum part first, then the bass, which is call the bottom parts.

Hi Roland guys please communicate with our problems...My biggest problem is the time signature...it's stuck to 4/4 How does one change the signature to say a 5/4 or a 7/8 and so on????? Please Please Help .
Go to "Song Util" on your track by pressing "Shift" + "3" on your FA-08. Then go to "Time Signature" in "Song Util" and select the time signature you want.

How come whenever I use my pedal, the board doesn't replicate it in the sequence? REALLY ANNOYING for piano players who want their sequences to sound like they performed it.
The saving part is wrong in this video,because if you do it that way what you said(press write en select song)
When you reboot the FA-06 it loses the instruments what you selected...(this is very anoying)
I discovered that tonight. There has to be a way to save exactly wat you recorded. I've only had it for 4 days so hopefully, I can figure that out. Probably has something to do with saving the studio set.

I wish you could delete tracks while still playing. Having to hold the keys to erase to delete is pretty tiresome.

This keyboard is so confusing for me 😔
How about musicians who can actually play keyboard proficiently wanting to record entire tracks in real time. Limited to recording in patterns up to 32 bars is not worth paying $6000 for.
