This movie did do a great job Of explaining the market crash very simply.
except they blamed it on banks when in fact it was the US government and the federal reserve combined that created an unprecedented lust for mortgage bonds.
the next crash is coming in 12 months and its going to hit the US consumer really, really hard.

Thanks @tuneman1984 I still don't get it. So how does it apply to "his margins being nice and fat"?
I don't think the two comments are related. When the guy with the shirt said "your margins are nice and fat", he was taking a swipe at him. So he took a swipe back by insulting his shirt. Someone else may have a different view but I think they were just trading jabs on two different things.

The cut always may be what I like most about this movie. "Here's Margot Robbie in a bubble bath to explain this." Here's world famous chef Anthony Bourdain to explain that." Plus, I absolutely love Steve Carell's character in this movie.
I'm still Michael Scott asking, "Explain this to me like I'm a 5 year old."
Increasingly banks are giving money to people who are very unlikely able to be able to pay them back. Bet on people getting foreclosed on and profit.
@@e_eyster Except that historically in America people rarely got to the point of foreclosure. That's the important part, I think. Since it's never happened, people assume it's never going to happen. That's why the guys are skeptical at first of the opportunity to bet on people getting foreclosed.
There are may movies that attempt to explain the sub-prime market collapse, but few do it as well as The Big Short. It's humerus, enlightening, entertaining, artsy, and shocking. It really brings home the feel of the confusion of the time as well as explains what was happening without going heavy on the jargon. Every year I show it at the end of the semester to my freshman econ students.
This movie is pure gold, the script is great, all the actors are 100% committed.

Poor minds definitely can't make any rich actions, when all they do is depend on their salaries for survival, after realizing that the sole purpose of life as a human is adapting to a very peaceful and prosperous lifestyle my perspective towards money totally changed
Even if the 9 - 5 can become very stressing it has been my only source of income, waking up everyday then heading straight for the subway and all that crap gets really shitty. Sometimes I crave for another source of incomes because most times it feels like I'm still curbed from most of my needs, I'm still trying to attain financial freedom but I can't seem to accomplish it yet😪
"I need the money", has been the only reason why people surrender their time for it doing a job, I think people just need to actualize the fact that it can still be obtainable even with doing one. My investments in the financial markets just continues to put a smile on my face, currently I am making an average of $45k monthly and that's just from stocks alone
@@philcrowley007 Investments in general can put a total stop to poverty especially when it comes to the financial markets, no matter what your preferences are, be it long/short term, earning daily profits, DCA, dividends or you're just trying to make some more cool cash the markets has it all. Practically it made and has helped so many around the globe become millionaires and that's not surreal, one thing for certain is that it should never be mistaken for gambling because it's way more intricate and definitely more lucrative, with luck profits might have be earned but on the long run you'll find out you've probably lost x2 of what you previously made. It requires elite level of psychology, patience, endurance and your emotions should always be in check. I just wish I had a very profitable way of going about it because I know how enormous I can actually earn from it
Patience affirmatively is a very profitable virtue and I can attest to that, my investments in stocks, crypto, real estates and forex has got me working lesser shifts while still making good money, although I didn't get here on my own because all I've gained off the markets is thanks to my partnership with Noud Mikan a FINRA licensed expert trader. My portfolio continues to grow fatter because the amount of flexibility I keep recording is just over the roof, his proficiency and expertise has made trading even more fun and with the market currently in a very benign state I'm trying to hit 7figures before the holidays

Very ironic this comes in my recommended when the gamestop reddit thing is happening

Wallstreetbets after gamestonk: "Shorting is evil and should be illegal."
How coincidental
There is nothing ironic about google algorithms.
@samantha gray Shorts and bears are not the same thing. But Burry, who is famous for being both, has been on the front page cover of the sub several times.
@samantha gray Ok, no. A bear is someone who believes a stock will go down and invests accordingly. Simply saying "Stock XXX will go down in the future and thus I do not want to own it" makes someone a bear. A short is a kind of bear that specifically shorts a particular stock.

And there’s Mr. I Think I See Something That No One Else Sees But It’s Actually a Nothing Burger.
It's hilarious how the actor transitions from being this twitchy, squirrely social maladapt, to sounding like a member of the Harvard rowing team when he breaks the 4th wall.
"You're too close" - this line gets me every time.
I like how this movie didn't even sugarcoat the truth - it was super candid showing how the banks deliberately made the housing market tip the fuck over. And Ryan Gosling is just a bloody genius in this role.
Not really. The movie ignores critical pieces of information. Critical pieces of information that changes the picture. So the movie is truthful but only to a point. And that myopic point skews the picture. Tell me exactly where the banks would have any incentive in a free market to screw around like that. They don't. But the government does. The government does in the name of "getting votes" and "staying in office" especially when by putting the screws to banks to make unsound loans. The fact that banks made convenient scapegoats was just icing on the cake. Do look into the "Community Reinvestment Act" of President Carter and President Clinton.
That quant guy has incredible face changing skill
This scene is brilliant. Writing, acting, all of it.

+John Bonini but the it would run out of steam the moment it gets nominated. These type of movies dont usually win anything.Movies need to be sentimental in some way to win awards

+James Whatney True. I don't care if it wins, it's still the best movie from last year for me. And I found it very sentimental. I laughed a lot, but it also made me mad and sad. Not "The Room" sentimental, but a different kind.
The way he said “money” makes me chuckled

This movie is surprisingly deep and complex! I’ve watched this movie twice and picked lots of stuff that I could go down a rabbit hole researching !
Seriously, do you have any idea how many lives were turned upside down? Every week I walked around my block in 2008 house prices were down another $10,000. On the walls of bedrooms were murals, clearly children's bedrooms. Children displaced. Dogs going to the pound. Two income parents not making enough to cover their payment and not knowing where to turn. Schools disrupted. Divorce. Couples choosing not to have children. Financial warfare perpetrated on citizens of the United States. Retirement plans dissolved. Pockets picked.
James S welcome in America, where the government doesn't gives shits about their people :7
Are you stupid? Most of the blame is on the stupid greedy homeowners. Why the FUCK would you take out a loan if you couldn't repay it? How stupid can you be?
Exactly. I, as an immigrant could never understand this. And then everyone likes to blame someone else in this country. Why the fuck would you take out a loan without definite guaranteed means to repay it? fucking greed is all.
Sons of Axe how does the government not care about its people when the largest portion of government spending is on the social welfare of the people of the United states
Alex Black TBF people being stupid with their money is practically a law of nature. It wouldn’t have collapsed the economy if banks hadn’t have fraudulently rated CDOs, encouraging even more stupidity and building an economy on the aforementioned stupidity.
