Very informative. As a security guard for several years you did a very good job explaining.
You have a neat handwriting but that doesn't come easy for the some of us.
I suffer from a neurological problem called dysgraphia. You can look it up but it's basically difficulty in writing. It's not my fault it's the way my brain is wired and cannot be improved upon.
Thankfully today most daily activity reports are done either on a computer, tablet or smart phone.

Being a security guard sucks, they want you to write all these dumb reports like your a cop but then pay you the same thing people at McDonald's are getting paid.

FATMAN_162x It depends, shop around. They usually pay crap becasue companies are very shady. Look for "In house" security look for armed security and look for prisoner transport.

I have trained people on the correct way to do reports. An hourly reference is good for the left column. For example it should start with the time you are suppose to start. Lets say you start at 0800 hours, you would put 0800 in the left side column, then inside the the description window area is where you would put exact times like, " I arrive on time to my post and relived Officer SMITH, Carl. I received all 10 keys, detext wand, and all pass down debriefing. Officer Smith informed me that Peerless cleaning crew will arrive at 0830.
At 0815, I received a call from the Disney client manager informing me that an alarm was going off" After you write all the details that happened within the hour, you would put 0900 on left side column where your last sentence ends. You should always put the full Last name in Capitals, then the the 1st name . SMITH, Carl. Then from there on out, you would just use the last name. Officer Smith. Now you have all the details within each hour. You never want to use codes like, all is Code 4 or everything is c4. You can use it, if you explain that C4=Code 4= Everything is under control, that way the 3rd party will understands. You can put that on top where you write your name and date etc....You ended a sentence with, "nothing further" as if you were going to say, nothing further to report. I have had my officers write in all capitals, when their writing was so bad. Hope this helps! :D

So my question is if there's nothing out of place or out of ordinary on post do i just write post secured or should i just put filler everytime for ex. gate unlocked / locked and secured gate or cones moved and secured even if none of that's true . basically do they trip if there's nothing much written on report?

Dayley Action Reports suck when you work for a Security Company that dosent use them you have a good job . You will get promoted either way they have no choice but to promote you oventuly not very many people last long in security one job i was at lost 73 people in 1 week. I went through 9 different supervisors in a year. Most Security Companies are a joke to even work for. You will work 16-24 hour shifts when your supposed to work an 8 hour shift because your relief shows up late our they don't even bother to show up at all and it's like every other day your company won't bother to write them up our fire them . But if you leave post you will be terminated they don't care that you have another job and some other place you need to be .

I love my Security Job when it's similar to Police Work . Allot of people get pissed off when i write them a citation. You're a Security Guard you don't have the authority to write me a citation. Considering the fact that i work for the City Councilmen and the fines are collected by a Police Officer at the end of the month if you can find a Security Company that's contracted by a Police Department it's great .They have you check the parking meters outside or you will be standing guard for Jury Duty in the Court House.

He even admitted it to my supervisor that it was his fault and not mine . I got written up anyway they didn’t do anything to him. My supervisors excuse was that it's my job to keep my fellow guards in line. I also get sick and tired of haveing to pull a double shift everyday seince my relive never shows up. After pulling 18 hours a day than your job wants you to come back in 6 hours . You start to get fed up with it .
