I inherited this game from my grandparents but the goodwill vhs player i bought didnt work for halloween gamenight, thank the heavens you had uploaded this so that we could still play the game. Id last played it when i was 6 so im glad i was actually cognitive to understand the instructions and be fully immersed in the gameplay! Great game to help people overcoming panic issues.
If you're having trouble figuring out why he's so goddamned unnerving, it's that he never ever blinks. Even when he's wearing those ungodly contact lenses. Such a small touch, but it WORKS SO HARD.
I think his eyes are painted on his eyelids and his eyes are closed the whole time. How bizzare.
This brings up fond memories of trying to get something to eat when dear old Dad was home.
BEST GAME EVER. God playing this at the age of like 5 was great.

If they made games like this again I would buy them in a heartbeat.
I wish they would re-invent these games with the amazing fx make up and cgi we have today they can make these games scarier and great again ...i know they have done dvd games of this but not as good as the original but i believe if they put there heart into it it could be great and much scarier and will get people back in love with this game
They should bring this out with a DVD or Blu Ray. 😮
I kinda remember playing this game at least once ... don't remember exactly when though. But having to shout "Yes Gatekeeper!" when he asked for you in particular was always met with a bit of laughter from the people I played it with which actually added to the fun of it.
Turn the volume up and the lights down: also good instructions for what to do when a new Purple Stuff drops.

This used to scared the shit out of me as a kid especially when he calls you close to the TV.
Man this scared the heck outta me as a kid. My friends older sister had it, and we played a few times. My mom was super religious at the time after my dad left her, so her rhetoric had me believing in demons and ungodly things of the devil. So the combination of that and being young made this so perfect to scare me!
And I look back at those memories loving that I got to experience it! I don't believe in any ghost or paranormal or UFOs, etc... but enjoyed that time having such an unencumbered imagination!

Could you imagine if they made a 4K version with a Dolby Atmos set up and a 75 inch OLED TV? Then leaving your really young kids in the room by themselves in the dark. 🤣 Or would you think that would be a bit cruel?

The community has made a 4K upscale of the OG Nightmare (particularly the second pressing everyone is most familiar with (this one)) and The Harbingers, close enough I guess, but it would be cool to see an official 4K for sure, fingers crossed if the 30th anniversary edition has a good resolution up it’s sleeve through streaming, but having it in Dolby Atmos, DTS X, or Auro 3D would be awesome af, would be cool if there was an Ultra HD Blu Ray with these features.
For now though, my personal set up would be to play this game with an 85 inch Mini LED TV, upscaling the game to 8K, and upmixing it with Auromatic for a 7.1.6 configuration :p
And a VR game is an awesome idea, imagine running in an FPV and suddenly the gatekeeper suddenly appears with the classic loud “STOP!”

@@lichade2008 if the game was 3D and I had a 3D TV, perhaps, but 3D TV’s haven’t really caught on and seems to of died out, also not to mention the price adds up to what’s already dear af lol 😅 TV companies seem to be focusing more to make the most realistic 2D image now, still, Atmosfear in 3D does sound fun, imo particularly the DVD era where there’s a bunch of scenery.

I played this game with my brother and my two cousins back in 1993 - at the very end, where they ask each player to write their deepest fear on the tombstone cards, my cousin Chris wrote the word "Dimsims". What he really meant was "Demons". To this very day, we all give him crap about it.
Miss playing this game as a kid years ago. I had some of the other Nightmare games too.
I remember when this game was brand new. I would have got it as a birthday/christmas present, but at the time I was younger than the recommended minimum age and my parents thought it would scare me too much. Having seen the video now as an adult, I would probably have been terrified and unable to sleep afterwards!

That's because it is. It was called Nightmare in some regions and Atmosfear in others. This is the original.
They were two different games based on the same characters. I have both. They also have Nightmare 2 which I don’t have and never played.
