This had to be like 40 hours of work for a 7 minute video so mad props to you haha shit
The worst part about trying to learn periphery: it's hard
Oh and they've never repeated the same tuning in two songs
there are literally 6 songs with unique tunings.
garden in the bones and remain indoors have the same tunings. with the 6 strings periphery mostly plays with drop c# and then drops only the lowest string further on occasion. some are open tunings. but they still repeat same tunings otherwise they'll waste time retuning after every song they play
@@TheProxy2 they dont use C#. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11qDmoCTypowhguw0SFXhhexoGcyEQV12QFcz_uusEF4/edit#gid=1199880934
@@TheProxy2 You mean drop C? They also tune the low C down to A and utilise Cadd9 tuning for Scarlet. Seven string I believe is entirely drop G#
@@matthewbarnard7932 im sorry i dont know why i typed C# i meant just c. probably was high
I love Garden In the Bones but never realized how much is actually going on in that main riff
It is WAY harder than I thought it was going to be haha. Very easy to get your fingers in the wrong spot with the weird 4/4-7/8 transition
Definitely a lot going on with that one! Great job man.
Y'all can't handle the djent tele, and y'all are wrong 💢
Obviously they've never heard of a little British band called The Safety Fire
divinasion now known as the geniuses behind good tiger ❤️
I admit Ragnarok actually crushing on the tele was a pleasant surprise
mathprodigy it has a really fucking hot humbucker in it of course it bangs
Djentele
"Make Total Destroy" without Spencer's vocals, could very well pass off as a Meshuggah song.
Same with Ragnarok. P2 is still the best Periphery album IMO
It sounds kind of like Dancers to a Discordant System, almost like a catch 33 version of it
@@olekacf4029 I really want an instrumental P2. I have nothing against Spencers vocals but I really love instrumental P1, and P2 has a lot of intricate guitar parts that get lost a bit with the vocals.
@@DomSchu Haunted Shores man. Also they do have stem versions of all their albums up for sale on their website. Check it out if you can.
@@olekacf4029 omg yes! Ragnarok too.
Thanks so much for watching guys! Unfortunately I had to trim a few parts out of this video because it kept getting blocked. The full thing is available on Patreon though ☺️
Andrew Baena still sounds great dude, keep up the great work djent dad!
Awesome video bro
What all was removed?
Damn Sumerian
"It's Only Smiles" has become my absolute favorite song since I head P4.
It gets stuck in my head for like a week anytime I listen to it. I love that song
There's something missing here but I'm not quite Clear on what it could be... great video though.
You know what? Fuck your theory... he is the way he is and your comment is out of control
@@OGM_OriginalGameMusic maybe if he painted the walls and murdered the innocent, he'd be able to play the songs
clear is seriously one of their best works (up there with P2 imo) yet it never gets any attention at all
@@Ghost17110 100% agree!
It’s something in the water
Suprised Zyglrox wasn’t in here tbh always considered those pinch harmonic riffs as some of the heaviest Periphery ever wrote
Definitely an amazing riff I just can't play it to be honest haha
I never understood how that song is particularly heavy. Intense and pretty evil-sounding? Yes. Heavy? The Bad Thing or Blood Eagle or The Price is Wrong eat it for breakfast.
The Liberation To me its really the pinch harmonics and especially the drumming on that song, but it could be that I love tech-death and thats pretty much the closest they’ve ever come to it
@@BaenaCarcosa I wondered the same thing but that's understandable. Maybe in the future.
@@BaenaCarcosa I can understand that. I used to play but life and other interests took hold. I was never great at guitar but I could manage through some protest the hero or dream theater type stuff half decent. Zyglrox as much as I tried and tried again. My hands wouldn't do it. I love that song its so in your face to me.
They got less technical and went more for a feel-groove sound now. They're evolving real nice.
If you don’t think p4 is technical enough try learning reptile lol
@@orendamusic7577 thats not fair reptile is 16 in long
Orenda Music reptile actually isn’t as bad I thought it would be. I was pretty surprised at how fast I got it down. But that’s just me🤷🏻♂️
I'd say P3 was more technical than P4 overall, but a lot of the songs in P4 are still pretty technical.

I wonder how many takes 22 Faces took...
One
We don't talk about it
Andrew Baena first rule of fight club is don’t talk about fight club
@@BaenaCarcosa We..... don't talk about any of them.....
@@BaenaCarcosa Exactly 22 times?
I feel it so hard that you put Marigold on here but jumped right to the playable part of the song. The intro of that song makes my fingers feel like high school dropouts.
The Contortionist would be a sick band to do next, especially with how much they've changed over the years.
That ormsby is so sick and your tones are amazing
Thanks! I'm using a very cool new Neural DSP plugin that you will see a video about this coming Friday ;)
The Way The News Goes is an incredible song.
My favourite Periphery riffs:
1. All new materials intro/chorus
2. Blood eagle intro
3. Icarus lives
4. Racecar outro
5. Ragnarok breakdown
6. Reptile breakdown
7. Priestess intro
8. Scarlet
9. Froggin Bullfish
10. Frak the gods intro
all new materials and racecar are just masterpieces. i would list nearly same list with this but i really don't like blood eagle
Mine would be
1. The way the news goes intro
2. Omega intro
3. Blood Eagle intro
4. Stay Indoors intro
5. 22 Faces intro
6. Prayer Position. Just... all of it
7. Motormouth intro and outro
8. Zygylrox (I swear I spelt that wrong) edit: Forgot to put which riff. Probably the intro
9. Hell Below whole first half
10. Graveless second verse
As someone who cables on bass Absolomb is my #1
I've been learning Flatline. The riffs sound a lot easier than they actually are!
Same. Got a 7 string recently and picked that one to learn, really underestimated it.
Lol yea they are deceptively difficulct songs. Best of luck
The main Flatline riff is fun as fuck to play and challenging but reasonable. Keep it slow at first!
Stupid Western Sydney fans...
That's Periphery
Letter Experiment holds a special place in my mind, as it was the first riff that ever grabbed my attention from Periphery. It's so groovy haha. Great playing man!
Bruh he played marigold without the main riff wtf is this 😂
I KNOW RYYYTT!??
*triggered*
He said he cant play it
The chorus slaps tho
There are lots of small bends in a lot of Periphery’s music that add so much character and Andrew hasn’t added any of them.
Needs more "MISERYYYYYY"
If we're talking Periphery riffs here, I think this video needs to be turned into a multiple part series.
Dude incredible playing! That must’ve taken so long.... great video. Been a huge periphery fan since way back and recently saw them in concert again. They’re still killing it.
Man, you always act like you're not that great of a guitar player, but some of these riffs are not easy to play. Polyrhythms are fucking hard to get down and play cleanly. You're a badass and awesome video as always. 🤘
The one thing that triggers me is that you didnt play the marigold main riff, apart from that it was solid! 🤟
Max Sturges same
Cause it's a fukn hard riff!!!
Also Reptile's main riff...
Learning and playing that riff up to speed would take the same time as learning all the other riffs he played, if not more! I also play guitar and I can tell you. Whole video is brilliant nevertheless!
@@ricardsolamestres3668 Funny enough, for me that has not been that hard slowly but steadily getting closer to full speed, but basically marigold is one of the only songs I have actually put time into trying to learn, basically still complete begginer.
Tbh not the biggest periphery fan, but Scarlett definitely has a high spot on my personal “best riffs of all time” lists.
I used to be when I was younger, scarlet is the only song of theirs I still listen to on the regular it's an amazing riff. Their best by far
I wonder how many guitars those guys have to take for a live performance.
I've seen them on your a few times, usually each band member has one 6 string for drop c and the agcfad tuning, a seven for drop g#, and a specialty guitar if they pick a wierd song like motormouth where they need a Floyd Rose bridge or an 8 string song. I've never seen them with 8 strings though since they have so few 8 string songs that are popular.
yup, usually at least 4. This tour they also have the Reptile tuning guitars so G G C F A D
When I saw them they had 8 strings for the encore set, they ended with Stranger Things.
Dalton Hanson when did you see them? They did Lune for the encore for us in September in a Chicago.
All of them.
Man that Ormsby has a knarley sound to it. Didn't notice it until it was in a mix of other mash up; drop tuned guitars. 🤘🤛
I just saw Periphery lastnight, what an incredible show. I'm still pumped on it so this video was great timing! Thank you!
I just love your content so much! I can’t wait to see what your next music project is!!
Really great production and tones in this one! Good job. That noise gate was working overtime!
So great. Awesome selections from each album!
yes dude, ugh. i just love them so much, and im so glad you did this.
Yes thank you I've been waiting for this.
Yes!! Been waiting for this!
This is surprisingly a very unique concept and I'm not sure why. Good job. I enjoy the page.
Awesome work :) I would say my favorite Periphery riffs starting from P1 going to their newest material are Insomnia, Zyglrox, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Facepalm Mute, Parade of Ashes, Rainbow Gravity, Motormouth, Sentient Glow :)))
Dude, I appreciate the super close ups of your finger work. I now understand how djent has that distinct sound, just by pulling the string down and releasing. I never understood really how it did that, and now I do.
One of my all time favorite bands,
great job mate!!!
I feel you should've put prayer position and flatline
Why stop there that entire album is amazing.
@@S1apchop Sooo many sick riffs on that album
Dude epic hard work - loved the vid
Very cool to hear these parts with so much clarity
It’s insane how much they’ve evolved in 10 years. Great video!
Awesome vid!! Didn't check the comments, but my fav riff is the intro/verse of passenger.
This video was amazing. Awesome playing! I still love All New Materials, just the clean to dirty transition is still magical even after hearing 100+ times lol
Been hoping for this for ages! So fucking sick!
Dude your guitar collection is epic
Awww sad you didn't do Reptile, that's gotta be my favorite riff of all time by Periphery. Oh well, you hit a lot of the really good ones so overall fantastic! For the ones you did get, fantastic job!
was gonna be sure I would hear it ;(
I'm genuinely impressed, Andrew. Good job putting this together - Periphery have got some weird riffs and you damn well nailed them my man. Great fucking job \m/
I can't tell if pure agony is on your face or if you're just feeling it. Or is it both?
Depends on the riff 😅
As with the After the Burial video, ya nailed another one of my favs here bro! Definitely wait for that full cover of Scarlet or MAKE TOTAL DESTROY ;-)
This is fucking awesome man. Well done!!
DAT riff from Make Total Destroy, so catchy. Great video man. I'd just say that the highlight of Blood Eagle, imo, is that riff right after the solo, so gud
Happy to see another Periphery riff video from you. I was lucky enough to see them live just a couple days ago :) Would have liked to see more of Alpha and The Way The News Goes but great job nonetheless!
Great stuff! The guitar you played "Scarlet" and "Marigold" is absolutely beautiful!
Oh god, you are so talented! More amazing covers / original songs please.
Duuuuuuude love Periphery! Great work man!!
oh man you opened my eyes, i've never heard of periphery and its so god damn djenty
Great video man and your collection of guitars 😋🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well done bro!, keep up the great work!
I regularly play just the opening riff of Pale Aura on repeat. Its the guitar part that solidified Mark Holcomb as my favorite guitar player.
exactly what i was looking for...the tunings. i was watching a video of Periphery making a set list once and they have to change guitars almost every song lol.
Sick tones dude!
Great job 🙌
Nice video, man !
Amazing playing. Going to a periphery show tonight, cant wait!
I'm glad you put the tunings on each song. I'm a guitar dork and like to know that kind of stuff. They seem to like that AGCFAD tuning, which is cool. I use a similar tuning on one of my guitars.
“All is my favorites riffs THAT I CAN PLAY” haha. Good video man.
Omega has 2 of my favorite riffs. Great job dude!
Saw 2007-2019 and thought Fuf and other old demos were gonna be on here xD these mixes are huge bro this was awesome to watch !
The starting verse riff to Reptile is just so gotdamn groovy. I love it.
I think one of my favourites has to be that MAD verse riff near the start of Insomnia. But yeah awesome video dude, I'm loving all of these riff evolutions!
The instrumental break in Ji, bridge riff in Ow, My Feelings, verse of The Gods Must Be Crazy, Extraneous, and Prayer Position are all insanely fun to play
We all know the only reason you made this vid was to flex all your different guitars at us...
But seriously, awesome job mate. Keep it up.
I really enjoyed this video, thank you for your effort. But actually i was expecting Prayer Position too lol
Awesome selection dude!! Scarlet by far is my favorite Periphery song!
Loved the video!
Marigold, It's Only Smiles and Mile Zero are my favourites.. But also Scarlet and Ragnarok!
I just learned Marigold on bass. I'm hoping to film my playthrough tomorrow. Well done dude.
Fantastic!
I listened to Periphery so much in High School. Pre Ordered P2. Jammed the fuck out of that, and then kind of stopped listening up until I heard Blood Eagle last year. That song is probably one of their heaviest yet, love that they're still going strong.
Well done sir
Anything Periphery related is always epic af!! Enjoying the peavey invective 120 and 3 guitars from American musical supply #superextremelyblessed \m/ 💚 \m/ I'd like to see a Protest The Hero evolution in lower tunings! Either way you've made loads of great content! Keep up the good work!
awesome, +1 follower !
The way the news goes 🙌 favorite riff
So glad you included “The Walk” and “Alpha”. That’s #1 and #2 in my book.
Great timing, literally just saw them live in Tampa
Very nice!
The Gods must be crazy. The riff before the guitar solo... melts my brain everytime I hear it
Nice choice, man! My personal favourites are Follow your ghost, Absolomb, Flatline.
was hoping to see Ow My Feelings on here, that beginning riff is so insanely tight 😫😫😫 good shit though dude :))
Some personal favorites you missed:
-the "pray through night" part before the breakdown in the middle of Reptile.
- verse/pre-chorus riff in Its Only Smiles.
- MK Ultra
- Four Lights outro
- Follow Your Ghost intro
- Pale Aura
- Froggin Bullfish first verse thing.
5:01 oOH my godness, he took the pick in right way!
sick bro
Was glad to see "Scarlet" on the list. It's one of my favorites.
Not gonna lie, half expected Buttersnips but still a phenomenal video. Thanks for the time put into this one.
This is what i waiting for
Dude. Great work. i know it must have been a pain in the ass to choose riffs. So many bangers. But i can't believe that riff from Ji wasn't on here! i'm sure people know what i'm talkin about.. around 2:44ish on Ji. it's a work of art.
Motormouth, Luck as a Constant, Habitual Line Steppers, Satellites, Reptile. All of which were not in this video. I think it’s amazing that we can all love this band for different reasons, it really shows how diverse Periphery really is.
