As for interviews, the key is practice. Learn the commonly asked questions. Write out your answers. Practice giving your answers and modifying them for different questions. Remember the key points you want the interviewer to know before you walk out and practice speaking about them. When you know what you want to say and have confidence you can say it well, interviews will go more smoothly. Good luck!

I agree that learning the basic patterns with punctuation arms you as a writer. Whenever I receive official letters from a professional or academic source, I find multiple errors with punctuation to be distracting. Of course, I make mistakes, too, but I try to be consistent in my patterns, and I appreciate consistency in others' writing.

It seems you already have a foundation. The task now is to identify your goals and the areas you need to improve in most. Then develop an appropriate study plan. The Study Tips on my website can help. There is no one best way to learn. I'd suggest a health balance among all the skills. Reading is a great place to start. Work with online texts that have an audio component, so you can develop listening and pronunciation skills. Study vocabulary. Look at the grammar. Ask questions. Good luck!

Hi, Jen! Punctuation sometimes can be confusing. As a self-taught student of English I used to listen to audio magazines trying to transcribe them. It worked because I learned to understand English. But when I checked the original text I noticed that I had made some mistakes in Punctuation. It's good to have a teacher like you to clarify my doubts. (By the way I heard the airplane sound in the middle of video. I thought the airplane was above my house). Thank you again.

Hello. I have Study Tips on my website. One tip is on spelling. I list some resources for spelling practice. Learn spelling patterns, for example: F changes to V before adding the plural ending: life > lives. Also, I help my children learn their assigned spelling words through mnemonics: rhymes, stories. etc. This week my daughter and I created a chant: L - I - two little Ts - L - E. We also use hand movements for this. My son now knows that A and I lean against each other in the word "against."

This was a popular subject with my viewers, so perhaps our English students don't hate it that much. Poor punctuation in writing is very irritating for the reader and I'm glad students are taking this subject seriously. Using good punctuation is impressive and makes reading a pleasure and not a chore.

    Hi !
We use semicolon to avoid confusion in series of comma . such as
The winner were john, first; Bill, second; Tom, third.
We follow this pattern secondary information was apart by placing semicolon. But I don't understand why semicolon used first and then comma is used in this passage.
    Ex.
The new store will have groceries on the lower level ; language , housewares , and electronics on the ground floor ; men's and women 's clothing on the second floor; and books ,music, and stationary on the third floor.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před 2 lety

Hi. The commas should be used within each grouping to separate items. The semicolons separate the larger categories. Remember not to insert a space before a comma or a semicolon.

+Ibanezguitars Hi. You can use the full form: I will. If you use the contraction, however, you must use an apostrophe: I'll.

+Ibanezguitars :) If you'd really to study more intensively, consider a live class or self-paced course. I'll have more Tuesday Talks in March and April. Those classes combine speaking and writing. I have a class on accent reduction next week. www.englishwithjennifer.com/teaching_schedule.php

Thank you teacher for this wonderful lesson. Do you have a lesson on contractions on 'have' and 'had'? Can we use 'have' with third person singular to show possessions? Likewise, can we use the contraction of 'had' to denote possessions in past - e.g. 'I'd a car'? Also, are there any rules for using the future contractions - I'll have and We'll have?

+The Iron Kaiju I'm glad my videos can support your studies. Keep going to class. It's a great experience to share with others. In the future, perhaps you'll consider trying an online course. I have a self-paced writing class you could use for review. www.englishwithjennifer.com/teaching_schedule.php There's also advanced/intermediate conversation classes with writing practice for homework. The next classes will be on Sept. 29. :)

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude for the 4 years of amazing learning experience with you.
    My question is:
can a pronoun be introductory? I'm writing my resume and I want to avoid redundancy. Instead of saying, (I have a degree in.., I have experience in... ) rather say (I, have a degree in..., Experience in...).
    Thank you

Even native speakers seem to rush to get thoughts typed out on the Internet, and punctuation rules are not always given priority. As a result, thoughts aren't always written as clearly as they could be. I hope the series will review and reinforce the use of punctuation marks. Have a good day!
