  • Changing the motor brushes is a common fix for electric lawn mowers. While there are not as many parts on the electric mowers, the brushes are one of the parts that will wear out.

Thank you! Fixed my parent's electric corded mower just by removing the top plastic cover, using a hand blower to blow away all the dried grass clippings away from the motor and brush contacts.

Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. My lawnmower isn't a black and decker, but watching you change out the brushes showed me what to check out. The brushes weren't worn out, but I couldn't pull one of them out because it was jammed. After spraying some ReleaseAll lubricant into the brush case and jimmying some tool into the channel to get the brush freely moving...well that fixed it!

Thanks to your video I was able to successfully fix my old electric plug-in craftsman lawnmower. It was the same part wrong with my mower that was wrong with the one in your video. I did not have to put in a new replacement part I just cleaned up the old ones, reinstalled, and it fired right up. Thank you

My mower was working fine, not intermittent until it just stopped working. I checked the rectifer, seems to be passing current when switch is on, so that eliminates those two possible issues. There's a half-inch left on the brushes, so not completely worn out. Or is that worn enough to cause a complete shutdown?
