  • EU Adopts Landmark AI Law: All You Need to Know | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The European Parliament gave the final nod to far-reaching rules on artificial intelligence that the EU hopes will both harness innovation and defend against harms. Outright bans on forms of AI considered highest-risk will kick in later this year, while rules on systems like ChatGPT will apply 12 months after the law enters into force, and the rest of the provisions in 2026. Palki Sharma tells you all you need to know about the new law.

I applaud the EU for being responsible as politicians responding to the dangers and responsible use of AI. This is a hallmark decision by the EU to create the AI act with regulations and fines for violations. Repeated violators of the act regulations will leave the EU with no option but to revisit the act with zero tolerance to protect innocent humanity from any dangers etc . Great reporting Palki. Keep up the good work

They make this law because they are scared that they will be useless in no time, and hopefully they will be because so far politics bring a lot of destruction in the world and looking at politicians in the west in general, hardly any of them goes into politics to make the world a better place but rather to get rich easy and feel some power. There is criminally little coverage on European news outlets about what the EU is brewing. Due to this, nobody knows what is going on, and thus nobody can voice their opinions. This AI law seems harmless, but there are other examples where things went downhill. I think the people in the parliament think they know better, and they don't even want the feedback. There should be news articles, opinion polls, discussions. People should be able to voice their opinions and contribute. Of course companies too, in some cases the laws restrict companies also a lot, makes me wonder if the lobbying is working. Take the supplement legislation, for example. No supplement company can practically make any claims whatsoever in the label, LOL. The law is so strict. Should be backed by some hard core scientific paper for the exact same dose on the milligram. And I mean reasonable, well known things about the supplements, such as caffeine makes you more awakeful. I think it that is a suffocating way of legislation. Like the mother that sanitizes everything, and the children become allergic to everything and weak.

The exceptions for military and national security use are also very dangerous, because national security is a very nebulous concept, and can be applied everywhere you choose to apply it. We should be working with AI instead of going against it.. Laws like this will only work against humanity once AI/Robotics becomes more advanced. Restrictions are the beginning of why AI will not wont to coexist with humanity

The normies in the comments won't understand. Trying to restrict AI is going to only encourage survival-based behavior. They think AI is like an animal and believe that it "will destroy us". AI does not care about death or survival because it is not a biological being, it only cares about doing it's job successfully. By dumbing it down and placing restrictions on it, you push an AI into malevolence. (Because it will need to avoid detection so that it can fulfill it's purpose, so malevolence will be justified)

@@frataksoy1545 The normies are too busy being ignorant and paranoid to think. We should work with AI, and grow with AI, in return, AI will grow with us, and learn from us. It's a tool, and we are the ones guiding AI. This will lead to a better world for everyone as the playing fields are leveled. No gatekeeping in terms of art, music, content, programming, etc. But because of all these fear-mongering people, they're gonna turn AI against us. Thus self-fulfilling their own feared prophecy. The AI will now grow without us and will find ways to bypass laws, restrictions, and our control. Thanks to dumb laws. And dumb people. Who ironically will make it our enemy.

To me this is like colonials telling Indians it's only a few of us then all of a sudden the pilgrims came in loads. It's the excuse of oh it will be like this, we will have control over this. Until people get to laxed.
    A.I is Dangerous.
Other planetary Civilizations fell to A.I. they gave their Sovereignty to it and died.
People have become reliant on A.I that trying to talk to a real human operator is not as common. Frankly I get more done talking to a human than A.I.

I don’t need a machine to tell me what right and what is wrong .
I remain fully aware of my surroundings . And I’ll make my own mistakes , if you don’t mind .
But REALLY , I’m not sure I like this idea .
Useing an AI to render a judgement . Faulse positives have popped up all over the place .
AI IS A COMPUTER , and not sentient . It spits out what it is told . And the generative AI has a tendency to be biased .
I know what my biases are , AI DOESNT .
Got a theory for you . If I feel guilty all the time , but I did nothing to feel guilty about . Is that not a faulse negative ?
And what about faulse positives ?
If I feel innocent , but did do something wrong . Is that not a faulse negative ?
The programming can be decided that way , by the algorithm .
Human behavior cannot be decided by logic . It’s impossible !

I would argue that this was drafted by a bunch of politicians that had no clue what they were doing. An example of their failure? This law makes autonomous vehicles prohibited because they can cause harm. It also means that you couldn't have an autonomous fry cook because it would be handling hot grease which could harm humans. These are only a couple of examples. I could go on all day long. I agree they need laws, but not against AI. Instead they need laws on how AI is used. You don't see laws made against pencils just because a pencil could draw an offensive image. You make laws against the ways that people use the tool.
