Lyrics: No Bullets Fly
From down below an enemy spotted
So hurry up rearm and refuel
But through the bomber's damaged airframe
See wounded men scared to the bone
Look to the right and then look again
And see the enemy in the eye
No bullets fly spared by his mercy
Escorted out
Out of harms way
Fly, fighting fair
It's the code of the air
Brothers, Heroes, Foes
Killing machine
Honour in the sky
B-17 flying home
Killing machine
Said goodbye to the cross he deserved
He risked his life two times that day
To save an unknown enemy
Escort to safety out of the kill zone
A short salute then departed
Fly, fighting fair
It's the code of the air
Brothers, Heroes, Foes
Killing machine
Honour in the sky
B-17 flying home
Killing machine
Said goodbye to the cross he deserved
Fly, fighting fair
It's the code of the air
Brothers, Heroes, Foes
Killing machine
Honour in the sky
B-17 flying home
Killing machine
Said goodbye to the cross he deserved

Thanks for the reaction. We're happy to be a wing man anytime... Let us know where to go for the volleyball.
You are good men. I hope you do more Sabaton collabs in the future.
How bout Carolus Rex?
We have only played volleyball twice. The first time we crashed and burn.
Eyyyyyy!!!!!
I see you again
"We are athletes, not butchers" Manfred Von Richtofen - The Red Baron
Thank you - kind, lovely reaction
Mercy element in this story hits you pretty hard. Teary eyes here.
Indeed
I have it to a lot of time and watching peoples reactions to this even I will up with tears 😭
it's not a mercy, it's an honor. most pilots have never shot at people on a parachute, even if it was an enemy.all warriors have had such an honor since ancient times.not to kill those who are not armed and do not pose a threat, the goal of a real warrior has always been an honest battle in which the warrior will find out who is stronger, he or the enemy, and not murder.
"I love you, Charlie" - someone is cutting onions. Lots of them.
Damn those onion ninjas, man.
true,...true
For me, as a former member of the actual Luftwaffe of today, this song means a lot...shows there is honour in the Luftwaffe. Stiegler once said...shooting down this B17 is like shooting on parachuted crewmembers...an absolutly no go. Thanks you guys made a reaction on this song and video.
If I remember correct from those videos from Franz, he said that his former superior said "if you ever shoot someone in the parachute, I will shoot you"
@@rjussi Yup, that did happen. I recommend reading A Higher Call. It's one of the better books I've read.
@@chasemathis2016 yeah it's pretty good

If Stigler whould have shot down ye old pub he would be awarded with the Knights cross, one of the highest medals of the German air force but as he said he got something better and that's a friend for life
Stigler fought earlier in the war in Sicily as pilot. At this time, his former commander drilled his pilots to never fire at pilots hanging on parachutes because of humanity reasons. Stigler said that when he saw the B-17 and his crew it remindet him on helpless pilots hanging in their parachutes, so he just couldn‘t pull the trigger. He stated it would have made him a killer instead of a soldier.
Actually he was told that when he was fighting in Africa, not Sicily
@@solthegamer3769 You are right, thanks for the correction!
Sabaton gave me another reason to respect them even more.
They had more than that moment of meeting. They remained friends for 18 years before they died. They lived fairly close to each other in Vancouver and Seattle.
This is also a reason why Sabaton songs should always be researched so that you know the story behind the songs. It makes their entire catalogue so much better and more than just good power metal.
For real? Do you have any links to the infos? I'm really interested reading about it and I mean it
@@Dripularstein You can just search youtube for Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler incident and you'll find several different videos talking about it.
@@ingsve aights sound stood enough . Thanks :)
@@Dripularstein There's also the book 'A Higher Call' by Adam Makos. It's primarily about Franz Stigler and his life and service before, during, and after the war and the Brown/Stigler incident
They also have a animated story video of Night Witches.
THE BEST FEEL GOOD CHRISTMAS STORY OF 2020! Franz Stigler emigrated to Burnaby, British Columbia after the war and you know what? Charlie brown lived in Seattle just a few hours south of where Franz Stigler lived! How cool is that?
10:40 thats why sabaton included the line '' he risked his life 2 times that day , to save a unknown enemy''' . not only did he risk court martial but he was also sustainable to friendly fire to FLAK ( flugabwehrkanone ) AKA anti-aircraft fire
Not really the FLAK guns. They would not shoot down their own. The other time he risked his life was flying up alongside the bomber without shooting them down. Had their guns not been frozen or the tail gunner being dead then they would have shot him down.
@@ingsve well maybe the Flak shoot if they see a heavy bomber and another plane cause Germany had no heavy bomber, they almost opened fire
@@Noname-ur4ct That's just speculation and it's not what's referred to in the song. The line in the song is based on the actual telling of the story by Charlie in that Stigler risked his life by moving up close to the bomber since they would normally shoot him down and then the additional risk of being spotted and executed. The whole point of what Stigler did by escorting the B17 was that he knew they wouldn't be fired upon by the Flak guns as long as he was escorting.
@@ingsve well their flak crews on the ground couldn't be sure if it's friendly aircraft escorting an enemy plane, so they probably would just open fire. And what would they expect? A BF109 escorting an allied bomber? No way.
@@dude97x Which makes no sense at all. Why weren't they fired upon then? The whole point of Stiegler escorting them was that so they wouldn't get shot down. It would make no sense to even escort them if they would be fired upon anyway. You're just speculating about stuff that is not part of the story and ignoring parts that are part of the story.
It’s so weird for me to see you guys again your son grown so much ^^
Like a garden weed
I always loved your reactions ^^
when Franz approached the Pub, he was waiting for the tailgunner to fire first, so he would be justified in blowing it from the sky. The tailgunner never fired. Franz saw the guns drooping, then crewmen tending the wounded through the hole at the waist. He stayed his hand, because to him, that '17 was no more than a parachute at that point, and needed to save the men it had inside. He flew with the Pub to keep the AA guns of the Atlantic Wall silent. Thanks to Franz, some 125 people now exist. An extended family, far more precious than the Knight's Cross he would have received if he had pressed the button.
You guys are my favorite Metal reviewers! Spot on with this one, guys! Beauty story!!
The only other story video they have is for Night Witches and it is just as good!
I agree... Check out the animated story of Nightwitches.
Try for a second and imagine how big an effect a single sentence have made, just try and imagine that (possible) an entire family might not have existed today without this sentence.
(info stolen from the user Glassbat).
"You are fighter pilots first, last, always. If I ever hear of any of you shooting at an enemy in a parachute, I'll shoot you down myself! It is not for your enemy that you do this! You do this for yourself, for your soul, so that one day if you survive this war, you can live with yourself."
- Luftwaffe fighter Ace Gustav Rödel to rookie fighter pilot Franz Stigler before his first combat mission
9 members of the crew survived the war and lived until 1985, 6 of them lived past 2000 - that’s possibly a lot of families
Just a quick moment to appreciate the amazing B-17 that could even land with a missing stabilizer or even WING. B-17....you are a LEGEND. The B-17 deserves a Sabaton song.
Technically this B-17 is also honoured with this song, thus it already has a song.
B-17 was buildet strong
They were built different, iirc there were at least 2 that managed to fly home with what's essentially just a string of fuselage keeping the tail attached, one of got crashed into by a BF-109 and landed part of the plane lodged into it.
Stiggler (the German pilot) was told by his CO that any pilot of his that shoot a at a parachuting enemy will be executed upon landing by their CO. He later said that the condition of Ye Old Pub was equally bad so he tried to tell Charlie to land, when he refused Stiggler decided to escort them, keeping the German AA off of them. They found out that they were living 50 miles apart for years.
Good afternoon gentlemen for this wonderful heartfelt song and video. It was very powerful. Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day.
As a side note: Stiegler's commander had said "if I ever hear that you shot a pilot on a parachute I'll shoot you myself", and flying up to the limping plane stiegler said it was "like they were already on a parachute". He actually wanted them to land, fearing they'd be shot down over the atlantic wall (the head-shake in the video), so he stuck close to the bomber so the FLAK-units couldn't open fire without downing him too.
just immagine, how many people are only alive today, because stigler doesn't push the trigger...
In the book "A higher call" is written 25 people
This song and Hearts of Iron both give this similar feel and have way more depth after getting familiar with the story. I guess it is them sharing the amazing self-sacrifice aspect and also giving credit to amazing people even though they were Germans --- instead of simply labeling them as monsters because of being Germans.
Amazing reaction! Great Benfica cap in the background 😁😁
This is one of those videos I have watched at least 30 times, have this song on my playlist, and it always gets me about to tear up. Amazing job by Yarn Hub for the animation. Second to none. And, of course, amazing job by Sabaton. Its just a very special story.
i havent seen this video despite knowing of it wow thanks guys for reacting to this i legit had major goosebumps and chills i love sabaton for this it
thanks
Hey guys! 😊
This is such a touching and amazing story! I love your reactions and your comments! 😍😎
Keep up the good work with your channel and a Happy New Year from Germany! 🍀
You should check out the animated story video for Night Witches
The part people don't seem to remember, "said goodbye to the cross he deserved" a single confirmed bomber kill was all he needed to get the knights cross. He gave that up to save men that were already basically out of the fight, as others have mentioned The man who trained Stigler told his men if they ever shot at a man in a parachute, he would kill them himself. Franz saw the plane that damaged, the men wounded, He viewed it as men that were out of the fight, they were effectively the same as men in parachutes.
The threat was really the top turret was stull functional. Brown though realizing he had already passed up several chances to shoot into them, he ordered the gunners to not fire unless Stigler moved to attack.
but he flew on them close enough the Axis flak turrets wouldn't fire on the bomber because he would be in the blast area, so not only did he risk his life by getting that close, helping them escape, that's a treasonous action. He risked his like several times, to save people he's never met. that were his enemy. Gave up the chance for the knights cross.
The fun fact my uncle in 1943 do the assassination on Heydrich but he got killed and the song is for me heart breaking 😭 at least I knew he died when he do the right thing
"The cross he deserved" at the time, the germans operated a point system, score 30 and receive the iron cross. A fighter kill was 1 point, a bomber 3. Stigler was an ace on 27 points, one bomber kill away from that medal.
Dude ! The son growing so much.
Thats fascinating - observing how your son grows up through the videos.
Ty guys for your reaction.
Great reaction, Great Song and really really great Story! Big shout out for both Pilots!
There's another video- where Sabaton talks about the history itself of this event in even greater detail. The German pilot originally went up after it with the intent of shooting it down. He needed one more kill to qualify for the Knight's Cross award. But apparently as he began his attack approach, he realized right away that something was off- the bomber wasn't shooting at him. As he got closer, he noticed just how badly damaged the plane was.
And apparently what happened next was simply the German pilot deciding that there was no honor is killing a helpless target.
The pilot's next goal was to get the bomber to land, he figured that prisoners of war is better than being dead.
But as you say in the video here, the Bomber crew weren't going to surrender either.
Realizing they had no intention of landing, he made the decision to escort the bomber away from German airspace.
What this video story doesn't explain is that along the German coastline, there is a heavily fortified line of Anti-Air guns that this bomber would never make it past in this condition. The German pilot had to escort the bomber because he knew that the German spotters on the ground were well trained and would easily be able to recognize one of their own planes and thus would not try to shoot at them.
I think this story is so beautiful and I cannot watch this video without getting emotional about it.
However, I'm amazed that it played out so peacefully. The gunners on the ground would see the German plane escorting an American plane and should have assumed that the German pilot was either a traitor, or it was an American that somewhere hijacked a German plane. In either assumption, i'm amazed the AA guns didn't shoot at them.
As to your last point, there were fake b-17 bombers the Germans used. The fighter actually intentionally flew on the bombers left, which was the german signal that it was one of the fake ones, and so wouldnt be shot down
The German pilot only needed one shoot down the plane to get the highest battle order: the Knight's Cross, the Iron Cross. However, he remembered the lesson in which his first commander said "if I find out that you shoot a helpless enemy falling with a parachute, then I will kill you myself". Franz decided that if he shot a defenseless person then he would not deserve the medal as a hero and saved the American bomber crew.
Thank you for your reaction :) Greetings from Poland :)
For some bizarre reason. This video gets me every time at the end.. i dont know why but i my eyes never stay dry there.
This song is just beautiful
I swear, every time I come back, lil dude changes like a damn Pokémon.
1 year and he looks and sounds completely different 😂
Dude, this is beyond cool
6:15 what an amazing scene gives me goosebumps everytime I see it
Wow, a great song for a great Story. Thx guys, tak Sabaton❤!
Two options for Stigler. Revenge for his brother or have sympathy for the crew of the other plane and their family and know what they would go through is really strong. He saw his brother probably in the B17
You should read more into why Franz didn't shoot Charlie's bomber down
If you’d like more information on this particular story and others Sabaton have a history channel and no bullets fly is one of the stories that they have done an episode on. The history channel is hosted by Indy Neidell and either Par or Joakim from Sabaton, probably because they are the two remaining original band members.
There is a lot of information given about the historical context and how they came up with the ideas for their songs; it is always worth a look
They have night withches also in animated one with the song and one whith the story and song check it out its realy good. Have a happy new year and rock on 🤘🤘👍
A soldier follows orders, a Warrior follows his heart. Germany had alot of soldiers. But very few warriors.
Its a great story and song! thanks
That kill would of been his nights cross metal that he never got like the words
Pedro and Antonio, you should read the book "A higher call" by Adam Makos !
only the turret on the underbelly of the bomber worked, that's why he got up beside them
I was laughing my ass off with that TopGun reference!🤣🤣🤣🤣
After TimeGhost, we have animated Sabaton ! Hooray!!!
Nice t-shirt. The king🤘
The Tail Gunner was down. He could have just murdered Ye Old Pub with 30 Shots. But Stigler didnt do that. He could be shot by
-Ye Old Pub
-German AAA
-German Military Police
And as he didnt got the Knights Cross, and as wearers of the Knights Cross can be ordered by Hitler alone to go on Missions:
-Everyone in the ongoing War.
Earlier during the war his superior told him that “if I see you shooting a parachuted I will shoot you myself” he saw the guys inside and because of what his superior said he didn’t shoot because he saw them as defenseless as in a parachute
@@MochaFen And this Superior was Adolf Galland
if you want to read about there is a book called the higher calling and i have it really good book. also the song last battle there is a book for that too is called the last battle , if u want to read that one too .
love that video,
My grandpa was a Flakhelfer (AA-Loader) in that area. Maybe he loaded a shell that hit that bomber formation.
Unfortunley all the gund where frozen all of them
You dont shoot on sittning ducks "its the code of the air,"
Thanks guys.
Joakim Brodén are a phenomenal songwriter and storyteller.
Hon about reacting to Screaming Eagles?
you have to react to the Night Witched Animated History story (not the animated music video) as well!
Such a neat story, isn't it.
Franz Stigler's superior officer had told him and the rest of the pilots that if he found out that Stigler or any of the other pilots had shot down a enemy parachute he would kill them him self
Memes aside , sabaton is really great to learn war history and certain storys . I fucking love the band
One of my favorite Sabaton stories, they did an episode on their Sabaton History channel about No Bullets Fly, wich is basically the next best thing to them doing these kinds of videos on their songs. czcams.com/video/LSU7HedRVGY/video.html
I am still thinking how that B-17 was still flying And I think the crew was thinking how are we in the air with this B-17
The B-17 wasn't called the Flying Fortress for nothing
@@goldenhedgehog9 and this was one B-17 vs 13 fighters in the Pacific there was once a B-17 called OL' 666 fought and survived 17 planes attacking her which are 16 Zeroes and 1 Ki-45 Toryu Twin-Engined Heavy Fighter.
No!! You can be the wind beneath my wings......Bette Midler
They have a Night Witches video like this 1.
I love you both. Growing some Beards :)
Night witches animated......
